Great job on the mods. I was thinking of getting this kayak for my daughter. One hack I have for the crate is cut narrow slits on the crate where the bungees go and that way it's more secure and won't move.
Get one of those lunch box cooler things. The soft ones. Sew velcro on the bottom. Use it for your gear center console. Its a cheap alternative. I use one as my bait slinging bag. It fits three sandwich sized tuperware. The front pocket fits 3 goo baits or squish baits and a smelly bait dip. But you can put other things in there like trolling gear or lures. You can also buy any small nylon tackle bag and do the same thing.
First 8 mile float in my Tamarack I got about a quart of water in my hull. I plan on doing some yakcamping this summer and want to use the hull for storage so I needed to reduce the leaking as much as possible. Over the winter I took apart and silicone sealed every nut, clip, hatch, etc. While doing so I found the clips holding the seat down, around the rod holders, hatches, and handles are definitely problem areas.
@@jakemynameis93 Update: So I did all of the sealing I talked about and am happy to report that after about 50 miles on the river this summer I had barely any water get in the hull.
@@jakemynameis93 Call lifetime. They are known to have excellent customer service. Hopefully still in warranty (5 years), but they may still send a replacement.
Seriously very good video.. I spent a fortune on a Nucanoe tandem set up for fishing mainly because I'm too busy on other projects around the house. This is great. Nice loafers..
Hey Jake, great job, I've got to remember to record my upgrades to possibly help others as well. With that said, about 4 months ago, I saw a Y.T.V. on pimping a Kayak and what caught my eye was his homemade anchor. If I remember right it consisted of a PVC pipe with 2 HEAVY duty copper ground wire through and bent upward like a treble hook. If the anchor become hooked and unremovable affirm pull on a paracord bent the wire straight and retrieve the anchor. Once in your lap reshape the wires and move to a new location. Just a small FYI to help.
ADD A POOL NOODLE! Slip a pool noodle or two down into the sidewalls, rear hatch, or under the seat. When you tip or sink it... The pool noodle keeps the boat from fully sinking so you can see it and recover it! No matter how well you mount, leash, clip, tie, or Velcro stuff... When the boat sinks your stuff will be dragged down. ADD POOL NOODLES for floats / bouyancy. This saved me, my phone, wallet, keys, fishing pole, paddle, tackle, cooler, and full set of gear from sinking in the river after a fluke tipping over.
The PFD is up front if you need it? When the kayak is capsizing, that is not the time to reach forward to extract the PFD from the bungees and put it on.
I ordered mine from Walmart. I paid too much. gas is high so all plastic items cost more. gas prices will be better in winter, and no one kayaks in the winter, so try craigslist and Google kayak sales around November. Goodluck
MY next video we feature a build out of this yak using some Mobbin Outdoors Upgrades. Trying to build the most tricked out fishing yak I can for under $500. Thanks for the rundown!
You spray painted those golf balls black and at the end of the video they were yellow what the hell kind of magic trick is that? Nice video, some good ideas.
Excellent Information inspiring me to develop my project soon in the future. Just have a question for you. . Is the new seat only thighten from the Milk Crate ? seeing the video at 5:27, I dont see any additional source for keeping the new seat firm on the Kayak. Did I miss something?
I was wondering why you haven't made any videos of that bad boy in action with all its new features? I was guessing it's too cold where you're at right now? I was hoping you would fill in the views with info. Like weigh, is it making it harder to paddle, and is it off balance.
Willie Chavez I actually have been trying to make videos fishing out of it, but I’ve been skunked every time 😅 but I haven’t used this kayak before I upgraded it, so I wouldn’t be able to compare.
Was it sinking cause of all the new modification? Did you get to try the Kayak before the modification, and was it still sinking? And thank you for replying back. I plan on getting the same kayak and wanted to know if I should just leave it as is or just make a few modifications?
Nice to see a local guy on RUclips. I have wanted a kayak for years; looking hard at the Lifetime Tamarack Angler as a beginner, low-cost option. What are your thoughts on that after using it for awhile (I see you got another one...)? Subscribed.
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
My anchor trolley kit came with a cleat I tie the rope around when it hits bottom. Takes awhile for my anchor to find something down there to lock on to, though. Maybe I'm just not good. Lol
i know this was uploaded in 2017, but can you give more specifics on the seat you got from amazon? i just got this kayak and want to get the same seat and want to make sure i get the right one. thanks!

Where to buy that seat man that's a great idea I just purchased my tamarack and got some plugs also no wet butt here.. But I would love to add that seat ty for any Info
Im new to kayak fishing and just wondering, would something like this be suitable for use in the ocean, say a mile or so out? If not, would outriggers make it more "sea worthy"? If not this kayak, can anyone recommend a stable kayak for ocean fishing (Preferably under $700). Stability is most important to me over tracking or looks or weight. Thanks! :)
I don't understand why he plugs them. Completely not necessarily. Sit on top kayaks are designed to be self bailing. Any water that comes in drains out. Unless you're on the heavy side of the weight limit of the kayak then some water may come up through the bottom.
Carter Grigg I stretched the original clothes line out (left about 2ft) cut it, and I tied the paracord to the little bit of line I had left. But make sure you don’t let go of the original line while it’s stretched cause if it retracts after you cut it, that’ll be a headache to deal with! 😅

i was watching this video and was like. i know that house! Jake!
Those trays that you found at walmart, what section were they in? I'm assuming being ozark trail brand they were in the camping/fishing section?
Yup, I found them in the camping section!

i just tie my anchors to my side handles i use 2 when wind is 30 plus mph Cheers!! :))
Hello Jake. This is still in regards to the kayak sinking cause of the modifications. Did the kayak sink right away or after a few minutes or hours?
Willie Chavez idk what you mean by sink? The only water that was on the kayak, was when the paddle would get me wet.
What if you used a magnetic tray?
Why put the anchor trolly on the left side? That's where the paddle storage is, won't they interfere with each other?
Shaun McClure I did it because I hold the fishing rod with my right hand. It allowed me to adjust without putting the pole down
@@jakemynameis93 Makes sense. Did you stow your paddle somewhere else, or just deal it? Also did you fish a lot of rivers with it?

Was it top heavy once you got in the water wth all that new stuff on top?
shelia taylor I didn’t feel too heavy at all. I didn’t feel wobbly on the water, but I only took it out on calmer wind days
