This is how I shuffle. I vaguely remember this video from back then and never gave it much thought but I picked up his shuffling method. Didn't even remember this till this popped up and someone asked how'd I learn this way
My initial reaction to this is that I can't believe this is considered legal shuffling. This is exactly how a card mechanic would shuffle a deck to appear to be shuffling thoroughly while actually controlling cards. I also thought that piling cards at high level events was not allowed because it creates opportunities to stack your deck.
He did a video try to do this shuffle around 2020-2021 iirc Trying to get the speed of the shuffle, he's out of practice, hiccups here and there, and trying diffent types of sleeve. He's in the TCG business right now, owning Hareruya TCG store, having multiple stores across Japan and Asia
This guy inspired me to learn this shuffle when I was in high school. I learned it and the shuffling phase went by way faster. Gets a little tricky if you are using Edh but it's still faster than conventional. Although, I think there were some rule changes where you couldn't end a shuffle with pile shuffling, so what I started doing is I would overhand shuffle a couple times, then pile shuffle to count my cards and when I combine the piles, I mash shuffle them, then mash shuffle 2-3 more times. Works for me even if it isn't the 'recommended' 17-18 shuffles to get a deck perfectly random. FYI. Overhand shuffling is the type you see in the YUGIOH cartoon. You take a random amount of cards from the bottom and move them to the top. I'll usually slide a random amount from the bottom pile to the top at a time. Mash shuffling is the type you see in the beginning of his shuffle. You take approximately half the pile and sort of shove it into the other half usually with the corner. Only works with sleeved cards. And pile shuffling is what you see him finish with. Self explanatory, just separate them into piles. You are only allowed one of these to count your cards because normally, it takes a while and it doesn't randomize the cards. It pseudo randomizes them but you can easily reverse the pile shuffling and return the pile to it's original state. That's why you only get one and you can't end shuffling with it.
