    Thanks, Happy New Year !

    Some cool fire pits...
    Cool video, brother...👍🏻
    One of the best ones, was when me a buddy of mine had used a carburetor lid from the truck as a cooking surface for the campfire, when we’d gone firewood cutting...
    Slight taste of 20W-50...
    Country ingenuity at its finest...

    Glad to see you're still making videos Brian . I've been out of the loop for about a year but prior to that watched I think every single Schrade knife video you've made .
    So now you're sitting down on the job eh ? 😆 Great grill/fire pit there . The sliding grill is a cool feature allowing more fuel to be added .
    Again , it's great to see you're still at it . I'm a big fan of your channel .

    Good job Brian, it looks good and functions as well. I shared this with a friend . Your tip on the ashes was very good. The ashes are caustic and once the coating is burned off they will definitly promote corrosion.

    What hardwood are you cooking with. Looked like Maple to me. The bark off even an ol' Water Maple makes the best smoke flavor if you throw it on some coals. Just as a suggestion, you probably have dozens of camp pots, mess kits, plates, etc. lying around. I know I do. Think about flipping a few of them upside down and building your coal bed on top of them. It should raise the heat a little closer to the cooking grate. Another trick is to loosely fold some hardware cloth multiple times and build your fire on top of that. Looks like a solid product but I didn't see any drain holes to prevent it from acting like a big square bucket if it's left in the rain.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  3 года назад

      I think it was mostly pin oak

      @@SurvivalOnPurpose What about the drain holes? Did I miss them?

    • @raymondparker1110
      @raymondparker1110 Год назад

      @@mrhalfstep There are no drain holes. Simple fix with a hand drill, if you require them - I would suggest one in each corner. Just be mindful of the risk of ash and falling embers. I never leave mine outside when not in use, so I don't have the need for drain holes myself. I always clean the ash out right away, and spray with cooking oil to protect against rust issues.
      I've also fabricated a grate for elevating the fire, which I simply use fire bricks to adjust the height. I get several choices, depending on my fuel type and amount, as well as just how close/hot I want to run it depending on what food I'm grilling. In addition to using the supplied grill grate that comes with this unit, I've used the larger Lodge cast iron griddle grate, and several different cast iron frying pans and dutch ovens... even the grate from my Lodge Sportsman's grill. All worked perfectly. About the only thing I haven't tried - yet - is setting up a tripod in conjunction with this pit for use with a large pot... which is definitely on my soon-to-do list.
      It's been a very easy and enjoyable experience learning to grill with this pit. Like all grills, each one is different, and has it's own learning curve for success - I enjoy that challenge !

    I use the Lodge Logic "Sportsman's Grill" which is about the same size, but made out of Cast Iron. It's hard to find now, cause everyone bought them up when everyone went into "pandemic panic" last year around this time.
    It's heavier, but more "nostalgic" in use like cowboy cooking, cheaper in price, retains the heat better, made in 🇺🇸
    I use mine in conjunction with the Lodge reversible griddle/grill top to have a different cook surface if I don't want to bring along pans

If it is good quality it means that the people who produce it have pride in themselves and what they do and it isn't all about the paycheck. Unlike many of the yahoos that work in the drive thru part of fast food restaurants. I thought you might starve before you felt you put enough wood on that fire. FIRE = warmth, light and food.
