I think the louder rhythm guitar drowns out the lead and makes it sound more insecure. The sound guy should have boosted his volume. I think its a case of low volume more than an insecure lead. On the record its up in the mix which makes it sound more powerful. If you really listen to the lead on the record it has a dreamy, jangly countryish vibe. Very tasteful
