Favorite memory? My dad and I used to play this, and I could never beat him. I even bought a new copy to try, never got to play it with him on the dreamcast, but maybe I can do this.
I’ve had this game on my N64 since I was little, I never really picked it up, but having done so recently I can see why it’s regarded as one of the best Star Wars games ever made. The audio and visual quality from the N64 gives it a certain charm that I love. The tracks on Baroonda and Ando Prime suck, change my mind. Dud Bolt FTW.
This was my first game on the N64, it came as a bundle with a yellow controller. I couldn't beat the last circuits so 13yr old me thought I was so smart when I found the hidden menu and set all the other racer pods at slow speed and me hella fast. Ahhhhhh, what a childhood memory.
One thing I really loved on this game were the many different planets which expanded the Star Wars Galaxy much more for me as a child. I think my favourite maps were these prison and water planets.
my favorite racer in this game is Mars Guo. He crafts one of the fastest and largest pods in the game so hes a tough one to master. but I love going full throttle with that guy. Sometimes I idle at the starting line and give the other racers a solid minute head start and then just try to catch up with them at full throttle, gunning the accelerator, using shortcuts, drifting around corners. Its just super fun. An absolute thrill each and every time.
I was 12 in 1999 and I'd been geeking out about star wars since the Special Editions came out at the perfect age for me at 10. I had a subscription to Star Wars Kids AND Star Wars Insider magazines, and was an avid player of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron on the N64 so when RACER came out it was a Day 1 purchase, mom took me to Walmart to pick it up, I remember coming home and jumping right in. I spent the better part of the next year mastering every level with every character. I even had a Podracing poster on my wall next to my tv.
The new lap record guy actually IS in the game. I didn't realize this until I got the switch re-release, but that's actually the other announcer head saying that. The planet cutscenes were removed on the N64 version, and THAT'S where you hear him most.
also swoop bikes are, well swoop bikes. playing a podracer game is magnitudes closer to podracing that swoop bikes. like saying riding a push bike is the closest youll get to being a f1 driver
Congratulations! On ps1, I spent days in Jet Moto 3, mostly at Khumbu Falls, where I had a tendency to crash into a bridge abutment near the finish line.😥
Didn’t have the N64 version growing up, but I did have the GBC...”port” would be putting it generously (I didn’t get a console at all till around 2005 - I was a PC and portable system gamer for most of my childhood). It was memorable for a couple of reasons, the first being that you could unlock Sebulba just by beating all the races on a given planet then beating him on any of the tracks...but you also lost him again if you ever lost while playing as him. Anakin’s pod was the only one you could improve, specifically increasing its top speed with each planet you cleared. It was also the game thar taught me about battery backup saves because I turned it on one day to find all my progress had reset, and it didn’t save again after beating a couple of tracks, so the game was effectively broken.
I would love to see this game get a remake, new graphics and textures as good as battlefront 2. Movie accurate sound effects and more voice lines. New locations based off canon material. Could be great
i still brag about 100% completing this game when i was 10 or 11. it feels as good today, as it did 20 years ago. the sequel was pretty good too though, you only had one life, and earned bounties for wrecking other racers.
The trick to win the Ord Ibanna map is not to fall down to the lower road EVER. If you stay on the top one you can win but if you fall the opponents will rubberband like hell on purpose. So slow down as much you need to keep your pod on the top floor. Also for PC the GOG version is the most stable version of the game.
lol I just beat this game for the first time a few days ago on PC. First played on N64. Best pod is Aldar Beedo's... ...and this video is how I found out about the repair mechanic...
@Bombastic have you ever played the arcade version of this game? Its great but so hard. You sit in Annie's cockpit and use the 2 handles to accelerate and turn corners (to go left you pull back on the left handle and push forward on the right etc). Now THAT is a podracer experience
"Shloss go du boska mallya" -Jabba the Hutt at the start of the bounta race Commenting about it in the last video about this game i got interested in today's state of the arcade machines of this game where you can sit in the pod and steer it from the fps pov with the tank-like sticks and all. If you've waited for 21y to finish racer i'll probably never be able to sit in a $4k anakin pod again even 20y after trying it out ( www.arcade-game-sales.com/arcade-machines/arcade-driving-machines/star-wars-arcade-racer/7591-1.html ) but by the force i want to and no midichlorian can ever change that. You can't be teemto pagalis, mars guo, odi mandrell or ben quadrinaros (the character whose name inspired Han Solo to name his kid after, being a pod racing fan for sure, and not after an old wizard he met once for a few hours) only Sebulba or 'local boy Anakin Skyyyywalker' but it's still the closest you'll get from an actual sim. Also, the lines all come from the movie, that's why 'it's a new lap record' is the only line for the race, same for watto's shop, the character's names, etc no one came to record for the game.
One thing I remember to this day is something I could never recreate. Sebulba having a flamethrower that set another NPC Racer's pod on fire. I think it's a rare chance occurrence. Edit: Also word of warning to people wanting to play this, the game is a coin toss whether it wants to work or not on PC, even using third party fixes.
In star wars Skywalker saga it's been confirmed that you can make your own ships right? We'll I think it'd be cool if you could customize your own podracers too
Tie fighter is the best star wars game. You may be too young for it. This is a great one too though. Quadinaros is the fastest pod I drive him exclusively once I unlock him.You should try to track down the pod racer arcade game. That was really fun. You sat in a pod cockpit and had two thrusters. To turn you had to decrease throttle on one side or the other. Kinda like how you drive a tank.
Awesome job man, I had anakin's pod racing helmet got it at walmart and would wear it while playing on N 64 I was 7 years old in 99 I wish I had the helmet still my damn grandma sold it at a yard sale she never asked just took our stuff and sold it if we weren't around to grab it it was as good as gone
unpopular opinion: i remember back in the day when an episode 1 game was anounced for the N64, i was hypped, i was like COOL! I WII BE ABLE TO FLY AN N1 and then i saw it was this game and i was: crap, is just a pod racing game.... time later BATTLE FOR NABOO was announced and then that was the game from ep 1 i wanted... just to be cancelled in europe..... just to be lucky enough to find a copy imported from the UK! also, that drifting mecanic whas added in battle for naboo, but the moment you had some experience with the game, there wasnt any reason to not use it all the time, to the point i remember using tape to tape the z button when playing that game
Favourite podracer?
Bombastic first reply love ur vids 💓
Oak
Anakin Skywalker :)
Sebulba
Anikan
I’ve waited one day for this...
*cough* TWO days for this...
Long have I waited
Imagine if Star Wars Squadrons has a secret/Easter egg pod racing mode. That would be incredible. Nice video btw.
vr podracing
Daniel Scheiman I would love to see more secrets in games like this!
Either that or Rogue Squadron.
@@willm.9687 Yo that'd be dope, they should make a new Rogue Squadron game!
Squadrons has a timed obstacle course that's kinda secret, it's pretty fun
Favorite memory? My dad and I used to play this, and I could never beat him. I even bought a new copy to try, never got to play it with him on the dreamcast, but maybe I can do this.
I wonder when there’s gonna be worst to best pod racing mods

“I’ve waited 21 years for this”
I was 10 years old when this game released, now I'm 31 feel pretty old lol 😆
Oh the nostalgia, loved this game back on the N64 in my early teens! Hope it gets remade one day, just imagine this in unreal engine 4 or 5!
One thing I really loved on this game were the many different planets which expanded the Star Wars Galaxy much more for me as a child. I think my favourite maps were these prison and water planets.
Anyone else get teary when bomb talked about standing up and cheering? (also a new pod racing game is a life dream)

I feel like sebulba wouldn’t act that way if he got 2nd place. I feel like he would just go and yeet Anakin off the podium
My favorite pod racer has got to be the guy who never left the starting line. He reminds me of myself!
me: buys game however thinks its still broken because it skips the tutorial for me
Watches video*
Me: No, WHAT
4:14 racer revenge
“THEY FLY NOW?!?!”
I feel so happy for you mate!!
I would love to see this game get a remake, new graphics and textures as good as battlefront 2. Movie accurate sound effects and more voice lines. New locations based off canon material. Could be great
Just hope EA dosnt do it cuz they'll give better graphics at the cost of taking everything good out of the game.
How palpatine felt when anakin burned on mustafar: I waited 13 years, for *this.*
The green one that’s like super dangerous because the motors are super close to the pilot.
i still brag about 100% completing this game when i was 10 or 11. it feels as good today, as it did 20 years ago. the sequel was pretty good too though, you only had one life, and earned bounties for wrecking other racers.
watching this gave me flashbacks of that one level in lego star wars

EA should make a new pod racer game with VR support, much like Star Wars Squadrons have.
My favourite podracer is Clegg Holdfast.
He looks pretty funny, and a good racer.
Omg i played it when i was about 7 years old and i completely forgot it, damn that made me remember old times...
Plot Twist: Bombastic was sponsored by this game.
“I’ve been looking forward to this”

Why is everyone sleeping on Star Wars Racer Revenge. It has been put for a while on PS4 and this game was way more refined
Love the channel keep up the great work
This is my favorite thumbnail of all time
Bombastic: runs out of ideas for jedi fallen order videos
Also Bombastic: This effort is no longer profitable!
Flashbacks to the good old days
This game is beautiful
Why is no one talking about star wars racer revenge? That’s nostalgia for me!!
(There’s even a remaster that I bought on PS4 last year)

You need to press the taunt button to do so.

In episode 1 racer I'm on zugga challenge and I've got wan sandage hes, amazing
Me when I see Ben quadronqroes in the thumb nail: This is where the fun begins
Holding the drift button as you cross the finish line kn the 3rd lap, your pod will stay in drift mode
At least it's not fallen order secrets
We need a new one with VR support!!
What is actually more dangerous?
Speeder Biking or Pod Racing?
We need a new pod race game that moves at there actual speeds it would be unplayable but worthy a successor
And THIS happened
Now this is podracing
I love this game and still own my original copy for my Nintendo 64.
