  • On 9/23/17, OSHA reduced the permissible exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica. The new regulations impact all concrete operators who perform concrete surface prep, polishing, drilling, cutting, etc.
This video covers four critical rules about dust collector equipment that operators need to know:
    1. It must be the right size.
    2. It must provide proper filtration.
    3. It must have an internal filter-cleaning mechanism.
    4. Don't forget about hoses, bags, and cords.

The Rigid shopvac pushes 161CFM. at least as of now, I know they're around 150+.
If you have a HEPA filter and bag, you will suck at least 140 no doubt.
Then if you add on a dust doctor, you will avoid 85% of dust.
As for the internal cleaning mechanism, I was told by an inspector, as long as the filters are changed out regularly, it will suffice and with the dust doctor, you certainly are able to pass. Just awkward as hell carrying around 2 rolling tubs...
