About Band
Nirakar is a iive Indo-Jazz and Bollywood band that comprise Saxophone, Guitar and Tabla. The band were formed back in 2003 as a improvised set up and began playing live the following year. 2024 marks 20 years of live playing. This special event at Karamel, in conjunction with Zer0Classikal, showcased Nirakar's unique repertoire; one in which the melodies have been influenced by the Raag of North India and improvised by Jazz trained artists.
About Sulekh Ruparell
Composer, Sulekh Ruparell, is a trained classical vocalist and tabla player with over 20 years of live experience. This was Sulekh's first band, concept and allowed him the framework to write tracks based on his extensive knowledge of Indian scales.
He is also the Creator of Tabla Works (tabla.co.uk) where lesson courses in both Tabla and Harmonium are available to download as well as providing high quality musical instruments.
Raag Hansdwani is a pentatonic that omits the 4th and 6th in both ascent and descent. This beautiful melody was composer Sulekh Ruparell's (also on Tabla) and creator of the online company Tabla Works, first unique track written back in 2003.
