Barbarian is one of those movies where you will never be able to recreate your first viewing experience. I would literally have to have amnesia to be able to watch it again. Absolutely incredible.
I was so happy i stumbled on that i randomly watched it purely because of bill skarsgard and thinking he would be a complete phycho in it as there was no real marketing for it but now i understand it would of been impossible to really market the film without ruining it.. incredible movie
I don’t understand why Hollywood can’t just give the people what they want. Why not give us Jeepers Creepers cathedral that was supposed to have Trish and the father and son from part 2 kill it once and for all? Or hell give us a western type jeepers creepers with him back in the old west.
Omg! I love Haunted Hippie. I found her channel shortly after finding yours. Both of you seem to have very different tastes in horror but that’s what I love about both channels! Watching two very different reviews on the same horror movies is fun and interesting to me. I wish more fans of the horror genre were open to accepting other peoples’ thoughts on horror movies no matter if the person disliked one that they loved. We all should thrive on having different views and be open to discussions rather than arguments lol. As always, great video, Cody, I look forward to your upcoming videos. Happy New Year!
The fact I knew NOTHING about Barbarian was the highlight for me. The part where Justin Long showed on screen, I legit though HBO Max screwed up and sent me to a whole different movie. It was PERFECT in how it set up something you expect just to pull the rug right out from under you in the best of ways. As another post said, I would go through amnesia to see this film for the first time again.
Thanks sm for the shoutout! Sorry my devilish good looks got you into some trouble lol. Very solid ranking! You verbalized so many of my exact feelings about the lower ranked films and I had to put Two Witches on my watchlist, cheers!
Thanks for watching and no problem whatsoever. I hope a handful of people checked out your video because it was great. No trouble at all just annoying that I see that accusation from someone every...single...time. It completely discounts the merit of your insight and your work and suggests the scummiest motivation on my part. Fucking idiots will be fucking idiots I guess. Lol Hopefully you enjoy Two Witches! It's well done just not really my cup of tea.
Halloween Ends isn't a terrible movie, it's just a terrible Halloween movie. Alot like Halloween 3 Season of the Witch, if they had cut Michael and Lorey out and called it anything but Halloween, it would've been a decent slasher film about a innocent guy pushed to become the monster everyone sees him as.
X was such a great movie. The editing, cinematography and choice of music and sound was nearly perfect. Seeing Pearl soon and really looking forward to Maxxxine! Really hope they stick the landing and end it as a trilogy.
Guess I'm in the minority but I thought X was nicely shot and played, but as per usual for Ti West was pretty dull and sluggishly paced. I found myself checking my watch far too often, and I found the 70's vibe to be pretty superficial and unconvincing.
@@inxe8 that’s a fair critique. That’s the great thing about art, right? We all see and experience it differently. How boring if everyone had the same tastes.
Overall, I preferred X, but Pearl was a great prequel that was totally worthwhile. It was different enough and expanded enough on the backstory while having a very different and worthwhile tone. I just thought that X was a little more frightening, better paced, and also did well with making pretty significant social commentary (which Pearl also did well)
@@JW-28 yaaa it was really wasnt great especially with the Alien aspect. I thought Gordy was more terrifying than the Alien itself lol. The film has a solid lead in Kiki Palmer but the film was bogged down by its narrative and writing. All the side characters were also meh or just plot points for the sake of it. But as disappointing as it was i still enjoyed it more than Us and Get Out which was awful imo.
I saw "The Black Phone" last night and it was extremely good. The two main kid actors did an amazing job!! And then Barbarian was SO good. Went into that one blind as well.
I was so disappointed with the Black phone I thought the beginning was very creepy and that was great I enjoyed that. However I don’t know why but the terror and sense of dread dropped off almost completely. You start to realize that the kid is going to win in the end and escape that in itself is fine I usually hope the good guys win but I guess I needed more violence and psychotic behavior from the villain maybe it could have shown a little more of how poorly he treated the other kids. The film should have been more about the villain and less about the kid that finally escapes. Something went wrong I just can’t put my finger on it because like I said I did really like the beginning.
Barbarian sucked a one and done.. i'll never watch it again which is a problem i find with most modern horror films, i just don't care to go back as there is literally no replay value. The Black Phone on the other hand was good/ solid nothing great..
@@jf2849 exactly. It was too predictable for me. I guess everyone wants the kid to escape in the end which is understandable. But there was something about the movie that was just too "on the nose" for me.
My top 5 of the year is X in first, Barbarian second, Pearl third, terrifier 2 fourth, and the black phone fifth. My least favorites goes to Halloween ends, bodies, and jeepers creepers in last place.
X #1 horror movie of the year, HELL YEAH! I agree, 2022 was a great year for horror. I also agree that it's a travesty that NOBODY seems to be giving Mia Goth any sort of Oscar attention for her performance in Pearl.
Great video My list would be #1 Barbarian #2 The Black Phone #3 (really surprised me) Hellraiser Note: Pearl isn’t released in my country yet, not till March 😡
This will be very controversial but I can’t be anyone but me, therefore 11. Halloween ends 10. They/Them 9. The black phone 8. Hellraiser 7. Orphan: first kill 6. Scream (2022) 5. X 4. Smile 3. Fresh 2. Terrifier 2 1. Barbarian Have not seen them all but this is my ranking based on preference
X & terrifier 2 was so good. These will be classics. X one of The best of the year I agree! Not too slow or artsy but beautiful and horror. VHS 99’ made me sick nauseous. It was so disappointing. The characters were annoying. I felt like it literally was a waste of time. I was so excited after 94’. The double dare segment was gross and I didn’t like it/ it was annoying: 94’ was my favorite of the VHS movie. I don’t know what happend. My least favorite of the year right now just thinking about it
I thought Terrifier 2 sucked. Art the Clown was great and his little sidekick was creepy AF but the acting was terrible and the story was stupid. It could have been great and it wasn’t.
Pearl is hugely overrated. Bore fest. X was great. Prey sucked as most people have come round to now after the sizzle has gone. Black phone nothing happened. For me no film was better than humble deadstream. Which was fantastic. Halloween ends was the worst.
"Nope" is in many ways embarrassing (debris stuck in the UFOs' ass, for example!), but contains enough good moments and directorial skill to deflect the viewer's attention from it. It will not be a classic.
Sosie Bacon did a _REALLY_ great job in "Smile". You'd think she really was traumatized. Loved this movie. I was _VERY_ surprised. Like you, I wasn't really expecting much, but as of this writing, I've seen it 4 times. I hated Scream. It seems like it could've been written by grade school kids.
Halloween ends is the worst horror movie I have watched this year, admittedly many of the movies you have below it I have not watched. Nope was a pretty close runner up, garbage movie, awful. Texas chainsaw better than both, even bodies was better than both of those. Hard to think of a best. Many of the films you have towards the top 10 I enjoyed except barbarian. That is another utter mess. No way that movie is better than smile even though smile was just ok
Barbarian was the most disappointing for me. So many stupid decisions in that movie and when it finally was getting tense it skips to a new character in the movie and the tension is gone. We can now follow his story for 30 min when it gets exciting again.
It always makes me happy to see one of my favorite youtubers promote another one. You and Kylie both give the best reviews. Thorough and thought out. Plus you two are so different and I fall somewhere in the middle of you both with my tastes so I just kinda blend the reviews together to form my expectation, haha. Also, I'm definitely putting Two Witches on my list. I hadn't even heard of this one, but I greatly enjoyed The Witch and Gretal and Hansel so I'm excited about that. Bodies Bodies Bodies...I got to the end of that one and didn't hate it, but didn't love it, and I was more annoyed that I didn't hate it if that makes sense. I didn't hate TCM 2022. I thought it was entertaining. It certainly wasn't the worst this franchise has ever done lol The Pet Semetary cut in for Ends was hilarious! Its true though! Orphan First Kill...I thought it was a dumb idea. That they had waited too long. That they could never top the original in terms of the twist. Then it happened and I was jaw on the floor for a good ten minutes. Hellraiser was a big surprise in terms of not expecting much and being happy in the end. I don't like the franchise. I was surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did. Barbarian was my biggest surprise of the year. I just sat there with my mouth open for half of it. Every sharp left, lol. X...I wasn't super excited for X until I saw your review, but its one of my favorites of the year. Its definitely in my top 5 of the year.
I swear for the life of me I can not understand the hype for Barbarian. I heard about all these wild twist and turns and how crazy and graphic it was, and then I saw it and was like is that it? 😂🤣😂 There was nothing shocking or twisty about it. Easily the most overrated film of the year for me.
Scream 5 was awful….the killers in it was not surprising and kinda dumb in the end!! Other picks I agree with for the most part , maybe not hellraiser but others were good
Surprised that you didn’t watch Christmas Bloody Christmas. It was a pretty good movie…. Regardless, your movie ranking was spot on with mine. Didn’t get to watch a couple of them but the ones that i did, we agree on them.
Nope is an interesting one. My personal favorite movie period of the year, but understand why not everyone is in the same camp. I will say, I think Jordan Peele’s previous work sets you up to think that it’s a big metaphor movie, and I think the movie is absolutely trying to say something. But I also think Peele just wanted to make his Jaws, a fun monster movie mixed with a UFO story.
35. "Jeepers Creepers 4: Jeepers Creepers Reborn". Like this series. 34. "Dashcam". If you hadn't featured it in another recent video, I never would have heard of itm 33. "Prey For The Devil". "Pearl". Same as "Studio 666". 3. " The Black Phone". Love it! 2. "Barbarian". Never saw it. 1. "X". Same as "Studio 666".
Awesome ranking! Definitely agreed with your top 4. Pearl, X, and The Black Phone really nailed their period stylization, and Barbarian nailed mixing a B Movie bonkers plot with A24-esque thematic subtext. P.s. your channel definitely is in my top 5 RUclips review channels! Cant wait to see what ‘23 brings.
@@paulcharpentier5613I feel the best way to watch Pearl is to view it not as a straight up slasher like X was but more as a psychological character study of someone on the verge of becoming a full blown killer. Character studies are one of my favorite sub genres (Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer and Joker are my favorite examples).
Great year for horror. I hope 2023 is even better my faves are (pearl being 1, the rest in no particular order) Pearl Terrifier 2 X Black Phone Halloween Ends
2022 definitely had some amazing horror moments all year. And I absolutely love Cody’s reviews and analysis. I don’t always agree but I do understand where he’s coming from in almost every review. But I do not understand the love for Terrifier 2. I had a hard time watching that movie all the way thru. I enjoyed the first one for what it was. It’s not meant to be a deep horror film with a message. It’s just a slasher and a bad one at that. Still, I couldn’t even enjoy the 2nd one. Hard to sit thru. I barely made it thru to the end. Lots of over acting and very slow story line. Mediocre kills. I just don’t see it, man. The rest of the list is really good. I wouldn’t have put X as high. But I did love that movie. My favorite of the year is definitely The Black Phone.
Really loved this list and enjoy watching your channel. Ironically I have been a fan of horror for years but must confess I've never seen a popular movement confuse me more than the mass embrace of X. For me it's a film that for half its running time tilted at something really interesting only to devolve into the most bog standard of bog standard slashers. All the directions it could have gone and it chose the most mundane. I'm more of an ideas person and so have things like Men, Bodiesx3, and Fresh much higher up the list in comparison to things like Scream and Terrifier (the sort of things that to me are just-fine), but I get horror fandom is heterogeneous and we're looking at and for different things and we should accept and embrace that. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. PS: I think Crimes of the Future is very, very much a PURE Science Fiction movie and a very good one. I think perceiving it as a horror movie does it a disservice, because really it's only because body manipulation that's involved and we think of that as horror, but as presented in the movie it isn't. PPS: ...However I absolutely think The Northman IS a horror film, and the best of the year. It presents both tradition and honour as monsters and makes a cases that both ideas - which are ultimately lies - are truly horrifying parts of the human experience and condition.
I have such weird feelings about Bodies Bodies Bodies. I love the plot line, it was well made, well acted, and the humor worked very well for me. I get that the characters are supposed to be over the top and obnoxious, I think they just do it SO well that it makes them grating. Maybe it’s because I actually know people who are actually like that, but the cringe was just a bit more than I can handle. And that’s a lot lmao. Btw, I recommend V/H/S 2 before 94. Specifically the third segment Safe Haven. Absolutely insane stuff. It has a genuinely scary alien segment as well.
i think my issue with it is that it never expands on its one joke. it establishes that these are a bunch of self-absorbed, pretentious, virtue-signaling rich kids in the first ten minutes... then never does anything other than go "Ha! Look at these self-absorbed, pretentious, virtue-signaling rich kids! Aren't they entitled and lazy? That's so funny!" i get why people like the movie, but the satire just felt so surface-level and basic. it didn't really end up having anything to say, and i feel like it could've been better off without all the hyper-specific twitter-lingo making it seem like it'd have some resounding IDEA.
@@definitelynotkraw Hard disagree. It goes "Look at these self-absorbed, pretentious, virtue-signalling rich kids.... - Their mechanisms of understanding the world prevent them from learning from other generations. - Their lack of self-awareness results in a dissociation between themselves and the situation they are in. - They do not have the language to deal with a collective threat, since all threat has to be filtered almost exclusively through themself. - Their individualistic progressivism does nothing to prevent them from falling foul to the worst kinds of groupthink and social contagion. In fact it makes it worse. - The only solutions to scenarios involve putting themselves at the centre and functionally ignore all the others. - They are not friends in any meaningful sense. - They form their own meaning and stakes based on sensation not wisdom. - They prioritise their affective experiences above any and all context ...and all of these things are catastrophically bad and ultimately in their worst forms can manifest in not just the inability to deal with crises, but to manufacture them completely out of nowhere" I think it shows all those dynamics clearly and with signifiant wisdom. One of the very best films of the year IMO
@@definitelynotkraw I think that’s mine too. That and that’s ALL the characters are. Nothing else. I wanted them all to die except the main foreign girl and the older guy. They were the only likable characters.
If The Menu had had more horror elements, would have been in your top ten or five? I know you love it from you Fantastic Fest ranking list. Love all of your videos by the way. They are really informative and entertaining.
Terrifier 2, was FAR too long, and I literally found myself wondering: “when the Hell, is this going to end?” Not exactly what you want your audience to feel during your film. Entire portions were completely unnecessary, such as the prolonged scenes of Art, and the children’s show. It added nothing to the story, and seemed like a bunch of filler. Although I was thoroughly pumped to see this film, I absolutely HATED Bones and All. It could be, that it’s partly because they offer zero backstory as to how these characters became cannibalistic. You are just expected to accept it, but I had a hard time with that. Another reason, is that it seems intensely disgusting to me. It was cruel, and ultimately, the kind of film you need a shower after seeing. Maybe I’m just getting old…..
Hey man love your videos, not sure if you know but I think when they're portraying dumb young people nowadays they are portraying generation z not millennials anymore, the youngest millennials are almost 30 years old. And they range from about 27 to 41, for example bodies bodies bodies was more than likely older Gen z.
My only issue with X was the makeup... have they ever seen a real old person? I get the gimmick with having her do 2 roles, but it felt like both of the geriatrics were wearing Mike Myers masks. Could not even begin to find them frightening...
Honestly I can’t stand young people these days. If the movie has too many of them and they are acting stupid I’ll pass. I think the whole world is sick of people that are entitled, easily offended and just ill informed about reality consuming way too much social media and mainstream news.
Cody big fan. Know you love vampire movies. You should really check out the strain bye Guillermo del Toro. Great tv series all practical affects and we all know del Toro is a great director and his practical affects are always awesome.
Great work, 2022 has been amazing as far as horror movies, the best year for horror in a decade, here's my list 27. Jeepers Creepers: Reborn 26. The Invitation 25. Goodnight Mommy 24. Dash Cam 23. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 22. Men 21. Speak No Evil 20. Mr Harrington's Phone 19. Firestarter 18. Crimes of the Future Here on up these movies are decent to good to great 17. Halloween Ends 16. The Black Phone 2. X 1. Barbarian
I didn't really find 2022 to be a good year for horror movies. The best ones like Pearl, Barbarian, and Terrifier 2 were fun movies. I never got anything unsettling or even scary out of the releases that I watched. Don't get me wrong, fun horror movies are very enjoyable, but I really wanted at least 1 really solid scary flick and just nothing hit like I was hoping it would.
How has no one called barbarian I called it the minute I saw the bed and camera, destroyed my love of the movie I love this reviewer but don't get how everyone thought this was original
You always deliver Cody. Just love every Video you make! Great Work! Happy new year! My top 5 are 1. Mr harrigans Phone 2. Halloween ends 3. Scream 2022 4. X 5. The black Phone
terrifier 2 could’ve been at least half an hour shorter, my bf and i were yawning and falling asleep towards the end cause we couldn’t give a shit about the actors or the story they wanted us to care about
Thanks for your list Cody… X was my favourite horror movie of the year too… unfortunately we didn’t get a theatrical release of Pearl in Australia, I’m talking about Melbourne where I live…however I loved X and I’m looking forward to watching Pearl.. I’ve placed an order to have it delivered from the US.. have an amazing new year with your family mate, and keep those videos coming in 2023 👍👍👍
Here because Haunted Hippie was mentioned!! Kylie is one of the best reviewers on RUclips- hilarious, super informative, remarkably well-researched, and delightfully opinionated!
Top 10 would be a little tough for me to do, so I’ll do a top 5. 1. X 2. Pearl 3. The Black Phone 4. Barbarian 5. Terrifier 2 X is my favorite horror film to come out in a couple of years. Pearl is as high as it is solely due to Mia Goth’s acting. While The Black Phone is probably not as good as Barbarian, I enjoyed the self contained story and Ethan Hawke a ton. Terrifier 2 was a fucking blast. Scream 5 is probably next on my list, just barely missing out on the top 5.
Imma be honest, a lot of people had lots of different tastes in movies this year. I enjoyed this ranking, hoping that my little list doesn't get bashed lol but here were my standouts: Best: Prey, Scream 5, Multiverse of Madness (not entirely horror I know) Worst: Barbarian, Halloween Ends, The Mean One, Jeepers Creepers Reborn, Nope Hope everyone had a good year and looking forward to what 2023 has to offer for horror
Loved the horror films of this year. Hard to rank myself honestly but probably 1. Halloween Ends 2. Barbarian 3. Nope 4. X 5. Pearl 6. Black phone 7. Terrifier 2 8. Scream 9. Netflix TCM 10. Deadstream
2018 was still the best year in horror I think that was the year where I had over 40 movies that I enjoyed and this year as been about average in number of movies enjoyed. Though the top movies from this year and 2018 are pretty close to each other
@Alexandru looking at my 2018 horror list: A Quiet Place, Upgrade, Summer of 84, Hereditary, Mandy, Overlord, and the Perfection were the big English language movies of that year for me. It also had Suspiria remake, Unsane, Annihilation, Apostle, and the Strangers: Prey at Night that were some of the other big releases of that year that I liked but didn't love

Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story 31. Fatal Fandom 32. Watcher 33. Firestarter 34. Deep Water 35. Morbius 36. Jeepers Creepers: Reborn
The X movies were a surprise to me too. I mean, the story was pretty generic but the direction and acting, especially from Mia Goth, really carried these movies. That monologue in Pearl is one of my favorite scenes in ANY movie this year and deserves more praise than it got.
2022 was a phenomenal year for the Horror Genre. I saw 59 Horror Movies this year! My favorite Horror Movie of 2022 is The Menu (2022). My least favorite Horror Movie of 2022 is Jeepers Creepers: Reborn (2022).

Top 5 for me this year definitely are Barbarian, X, Scream (2022), Pearl and The Black Phone, i liked Halloween Ends but expected to better than Kills or even the 2018, Netflix's TCM falls into the so bad it's good category, but i really enjoyed the kills in that one

@@APEXGAMING99 my wife agrees with you. We reacted to it the other day and she’s on your side with that one
Overall, I preferred X, but Pearl was a great prequel that was totally worthwhile. It was different enough and expanded enough on the backstory while having a very different and worthwhile tone. I just thought that X was a little more frightening, better paced, and also did well with making pretty significant social commentary (which Pearl also did well)
I will not accept a trilogy I do not deserve.
Smile is the best movie of the year
Prey & The Menu shouldve been on the list especially since Black Phone, Bodies Bodies Bodies & Nope made it on there and those are all thrillers 🤷🏻♂️
Nope was so bad. I cant believe a lot of people liked it.
Yeah but thrillers SHOULD count
"Yeah, you got me, cuz obviously _I'M_ the grabber, ya dumb f**king fart knockers". That was worth watching the movie.
@@jf2849 exactly. It was too predictable for me. I guess everyone wants the kid to escape in the end which is understandable. But there was something about the movie that was just too "on the nose" for me.
@@taylortyler1867agreed!!! I laughed so hard because that is exactly how I talked with my friends when I was a kid!
The 5 best for me: Terrifier 2, The Black Phone, PEARL, X, and SCREAM (2022)
My top 5 of the year is X in first, Barbarian second, Pearl third, terrifier 2 fourth, and the black phone fifth. My least favorites goes to Halloween ends, bodies, and jeepers creepers in last place.
X #1 horror movie of the year, HELL YEAH! I agree, 2022 was a great year for horror. I also agree that it's a travesty that NOBODY seems to be giving Mia Goth any sort of Oscar attention for her performance in Pearl.
100 percent agree. Watched Pearl last night, and she is now one of my favorite Horror women: in the industry of this current generation.
Great video
My list would be
#1 Barbarian
#2 The Black Phone
#3 (really surprised me) Hellraiser
Note: Pearl isn’t released in my country yet, not till March 😡
This will be very controversial but I can’t be anyone but me, therefore
11. Halloween ends
10. They/Them
9. The black phone
8. Hellraiser
7. Orphan: first kill
6. Scream (2022)
5. X
4. Smile
3. Fresh
2. Terrifier 2
1. Barbarian
Have not seen them all but this is my ranking based on preference
For me Barbarian, X and Pearl big disappointment. Terrifier 2 is king this year on horor movies.
My Top 5 this year is X, Barbarian, Terrifier 2, Prey, and Black Phone. So many good releases.
Pearl is hugely overrated. Bore fest. X was great. Prey sucked as most people have come round to now after the sizzle has gone. Black phone nothing happened. For me no film was better than humble deadstream. Which was fantastic. Halloween ends was the worst.
Most people have come around to Prey sucking? That's just not true lol, where are you getting that?
Lmao 🤣 who is most people? Seems to me you’re the only one who feels this way
Ti West deserves director of the year for 2022. Absolutely blown the fuck away at how incredible X and Pearl are. MaXXXine is going to be insaaaane.
My Top 5:
1. Barbarian
2. The Menu
3. Nope
4. Smile
5. Terrifier 2
Terrifier 2 was my favorite. I also enjoyed Smile and X.
3 great films I agree. \m/
My Top 5 are
1. Pearl
2. Halloween Ends
3. Scream 5
4. The Black Phone
5. The Menu
Halloween ends had potential and became a giant turd in my opinion like you’re telling me a twink can take down Michael Myers for his mask?
My list
5.leatherface
4. Halloween ends
3. Scream 5
2. Terrifier 2
1. Black phone
I have never heard about the other movies
Halloween ends is the worst horror movie I have watched this year, admittedly many of the movies you have below it I have not watched. Nope was a pretty close runner up, garbage movie, awful. Texas chainsaw better than both, even bodies was better than both of those.
Hard to think of a best. Many of the films you have towards the top 10 I enjoyed except barbarian. That is another utter mess. No way that movie is better than smile even though smile was just ok
Haven't seen every single one
Top 5:
Barbarian
Scream
Smile
Halloween Ends
Terrifier 2
Barbarian was the most disappointing for me. So many stupid decisions in that movie and when it finally was getting tense it skips to a new character in the movie and the tension is gone. We can now follow his story for 30 min when it gets exciting again.
He talked about Terrifier 2 The longest and the happiest... think he needs to make it his 1
There were some good ones. I felt like I saw quite a few classics this year.
Top 5-
#5- The Black Phone
#4- Halloween Ends
#3- X
#2-Scream 5
#1- Terrifier 2
There was a lot of solid horror movies but the only ones I thought reached the next level were Pearl and The Cursed
Eight By Silver is my #1
It always makes me happy to see one of my favorite youtubers promote another one.
It certainly wasn't the worst this franchise has ever done lol
The Pet Semetary cut in for Ends was hilarious!
Same! I don't get it either. It was very mediocre.
Scream 5 was awful….the killers in it was not surprising and kinda dumb in the end!! Other picks I agree with for the most part , maybe not hellraiser but others were good
Haven't seen Terrifier 2 yet, It was in just 3 theatres in Montreal for less than 2 weeks, missed it :(
Surprised that you didn’t watch Christmas Bloody Christmas. It was a pretty good movie…. Regardless, your movie ranking was spot on with mine. Didn’t get to watch a couple of them but the ones that i did, we agree on them.
It had the same director as VFW which Cody really liked. It would be interesting to see if he likes it. I loved it, my friend hated it.

12. "Smile". Love it!

5. "Terrifier 2". Same as "Studio 666".
4. "Pearl". Same as "Studio 666".
3. " The Black Phone". Love it!
2. "Barbarian". Never saw it.
1. "X". Same as "Studio 666".
I loved "Speak No Evil." :) Respect your opinion though.
I personally thought pearl was terrible, maybe I need to re watch
@@paulcharpentier5613I feel the best way to watch Pearl is to view it not as a straight up slasher like X was but more as a psychological character study of someone on the verge of becoming a full blown killer. Character studies are one of my favorite sub genres (Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer and Joker are my favorite examples).
@@paulcharpentier5613 I didn't liked it either, it felt more like a drama than a horror movie

Terrifier 2
X
Black Phone
Halloween Ends
I LOVED Nope... It really works in the IMAX screen, and Keke Palmer is SERVING ACTING!
I just did not like what happened to the pet in the end.
i think my issue with it is that it never expands on its one joke. it establishes that these are a bunch of self-absorbed, pretentious, virtue-signaling rich kids in the first ten minutes... then never does anything other than go "Ha! Look at these self-absorbed, pretentious, virtue-signaling rich kids! Aren't they entitled and lazy? That's so funny!"
i get why people like the movie, but the satire just felt so surface-level and basic. it didn't really end up having anything to say, and i feel like it could've been better off without all the hyper-specific twitter-lingo making it seem like it'd have some resounding IDEA.
- They prioritise their affective experiences above any and all context
...and all of these things are catastrophically bad and ultimately in their worst forms can manifest in not just the inability to deal with crises, but to manufacture them completely out of nowhere"
I think it shows all those dynamics clearly and with signifiant wisdom. One of the very best films of the year IMO
@@hideandpride1891 well you’re not supposed to lol
My top 3 were Black Phone, X and Scream 5
Hey man love your videos, not sure if you know but I think when they're portraying dumb young people nowadays they are portraying generation z not millennials anymore, the youngest millennials are almost 30 years old. And they range from about 27 to 41, for example bodies bodies bodies was more than likely older Gen z.
What a amazing year for Horror this was! My fav was X. Great list as always Cody
My only issue with X was the makeup... have they ever seen a real old person? I get the gimmick with having her do 2 roles, but it felt like both of the geriatrics were wearing Mike Myers masks. Could not even begin to find them frightening...

X is my favorite horror film to come out in a couple of years. Pearl is as high as it is solely due to Mia Goth’s acting. While The Black Phone is probably not as good as Barbarian, I enjoyed the self contained story and Ethan Hawke a ton. Terrifier 2 was a fucking blast. Scream 5 is probably next on my list, just barely missing out on the top 5.

amazing list. hopefully 2023 will be just ask good for horror fans
Black phone and barbarian had like 3 kills between them lmao
I liked Prey.
