A bit of a weird take, but you have a point. I actually used to think why does _this guy_ have 15 different channels, I almost got sick of looking him.
As an Australian of English decent, I kinda like his reserved nature and understanding of the indulgence of nicotine 😂
People who are doing the right things, _can_ make a second or third channel, but, there are a bunch of people with 6 or so that don’t follow a real formula which negates the point of having all the additional channels.
A cartoonist I like, posts comments on his X channel from his Y account and vice versa to promote the other. He acts like it’s not him, so it kinda adds to the humour.
People do weird things for seemingly no reason. Don’t try to make any more sense from the internet than what you would get on the street, is my advice.

I lived in Cayenne. I’ve been to iles du salut many times. I believe many of the inhabitants of French Guiana are descendants of the prisoners.
It’s true “papillon” was never there. It’s commonly known in the area.
The islands are quite a nice spot to go to now. You can stay overnight if you wish. There’s a population of deer as well that are completely tame having been around humans on the islands for generations.
It’s a very cool place. Worth a visit.

If I remember a tale from the prison, some of those to be punished by the guillotine were able to return alive because the humidity and wear and tear of a tropical environment blunted the execution device. One man was beheaded and found that while it created a very nasty gash on the back of hs neck he survived. They gave him a reprieve because of it and he lived.

If I remember correctly, Ile de Diable gets its name from the treacherous waters around it, not because conditions on the Ile were so bad, although the guards would still have been abusive. Would have been awfully lonely for the prisoners but not as fatal as in the mainland colony.

    • @jwenting
      @jwenting Год назад +2

correct. The island itself was called that well before it became a prison, and was chosen to become one because it was so inaccessible.
Conditions there were actually preferable to those on the mainland, better weather, better food, less harsh (generally) regime. More boredom, but that was preferable to slugging through the disease ridden jungle all day.

And, yes, I have no fear.
I recall that night, my every breath,
    And, step along the way.
    Closed my eyes, walking,
    As danger paved the way.
    The devil, and the darkness
    Let her evil wander free
    And, here on Devils Island,
    The final stop for me.
    Devils Island, Devils Island.
    Oh, there is no escape,
The sea is full of sharks.
The tide takes you away, and
    Smashes you on the rocks.
    The sun is shining,
    But feel not today,
    It's warmth, it's dying,
    And fading away.
Devils Island, (here I stay) Devils Island.
    Oh, hear the call,
    From the grave beyond.
    Oh, so pernicious,
    Her soul it creates song.
As there is no man, that is
    Here upon the earth,
    Able to terminate our
    Noisome will since birth.
The priest that reads the sermons,
    Is walking next to me,
To the stake, my last request,
To have her burn with me.
But, so it did, the heavens opened,
    Rain began to fall.
    The final judgement came, and
    Was spread before you all.
    Final judgement.
    Old, weak, and feeble,
But the lesson taught to me,
    To stay away from evil,
    She doesn't care for me.
She haunts me in my sleep,
Though I tore that page away.
    And, here on Devils Island,

Devil’s Island itself is now a rocket and missile tracking station; there was a forced labor camp on the mainland, called Kourou which was fever ridden and greatly feared by the inmates. Today it is a naval base and the EU’s satellites are launched from there aboard the Ariane rocket series.
Thanks to the space industry and its technicians French Guiana has the highest standard of living throughout South America.

After an attempt on 14 January 1858, to assassinate Emperor Napoleon III, Charles DeRudio was sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island. He escaped with twelve others, making their way to British Guiana. In later life he joined the American Army and survived the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Clement Durval, an anarchist, was sent to Devil's Island in 1886. Originally sentenced to death, he later received a commuted sentence of hard labour for life. He escaped in April 1901 and fled to New York City, where he remained for the rest of his life. He eventually wrote a book about his imprisonment called Revolte.
