      Im in the Caribbean and shipping that prob wont work for me but i see someone selling the tops on Amazon...hmm free ad for them ....id love to try it as im creating a pineapple patch among other things....one possible correction tho is that in my experience pineapple crows have no problem growing roots in water (before you plant it) and i consider it a plant that is both water and drought resistant in that sense. Guys, I grow pineapple in New Jersey. Just plant the top in a large pot, bring it outdoors after your last frost so it gets good sun during the warm months and bring it indoors before the first frost. Mine have all flowered in December (I think the shock of coming indoors encourages flowering) and the fruit is ripe in July. I started with three tiny plants, and with all the pups and tops they grow I’m now up to about 20 plants. It takes a couple of years to get fruit, but when you pick truly ripe, yellow pineapple it’s delicious. They’re actually much easier to grow than I ever thought...you just need patience. It takes longer than an annual plant like watermelon to get fruit, but less time than a fruit tree. And they make cool houseplants in the winter.

    I really loved this video. John I went to Jude's website & I couldn't believe that you recommend buying a 3 pack or any size of this pineapple. I don't think I've ever bought any pineapple from a store before, but there is no way I would pay nearly $90.00 for 3 pineapples. On top of that I'd have to pay $40.00 - $80.00 in shipping. Sorry about the negative review.

    • @annesuekocoyle1956
      @annesuekocoyle1956 2 года назад

      Hi Jim, I know right. It seems crazy. Here’s a few things I know cause I live here: Part of the reason shipping costs are so high is because a) they must go as fast as possible and b) they must clear department of Ag , which is highly stringent. then as you can see from this video it takes two years, a lot of love, and a lot of work to produce one fruit. So you’d think when you can get a pineapple at the grocery store for under $10 why would you pay 3x the price? Well, I can tell you haven’t tasted one. It’s nothing, I mean NOTHING like what you get in the store. It’s like eating spam versus eating prize-winning bbq. And even if it’s sugarloaf variety (which is rare) if it hasn’t been cared for at this level, it won’t be as sweet. You can’t compare to other pineapples. A better comparison is maybe another gift. Would you spend $90 on a nice gift to yourself or others? Most people do. And you may be surprised to hear that they regularly sell out of pineapples. It is seasonal, so you can only get them at harvest time. And yup, enough people now know about them that they often run out. You may see the price of these go even higher if this keeps up!

Now that I have a NAMA J2 making pineapple juice is a breeze including the skins on the organic ones. The details about when the stomata are open and how long it takes are very useful though have seen some bag grown excellent success in far less time. Foliar feeding is the way for these bromelaids.

By the way, each pineapple weighs with the crown 3.6 to 3.7 pounds. The two Sugarloaf I ate so far were NOT sweet and burn my mouth too. After in the fridge two days, it didn’t burn my mouth anymore. A curiosity: In Nicaragua they call the yellow pineapples Hawaiian and the white ones Nicaraguan and the white seems to be the Sugarloaf variety as the core is edible. Hawaiian pineapples are more expensive and seem to be the preferred there.

    Hey 👋 I have a question I stopped buying cantaloupe at the grocery stores when I got a couple of fruit that tasted like diesel fuel, have you heard of this issue and is it because of force ripening with that gas you mentioned, also I grew my own Cantaloupe because of this, super juicy tasted like candy. Thanks for sharing.

    I have 3 to 4 feet tall sugar loaf pineapple plant about 6 months. It's been so growing in my penthouse, since the pineapple plant receive east south , south and west window sunlight. According to your video, It's best to fertilize pineapple plant at night like 10pm. It's the best to water pineapple's leaves at night, too?

    John, I’ve learned so much from watching your videos.I’ve eaten so many pineapples in my life and never given a second thought about how it was grown and the hard work put into growing pineapples.I have much appreciation for this beautiful fruit now.Your tips about how to check for the ripeness - the eyes, eye balls and the puffy Kim Kardesian lips ? That was hilarious 😂🤣😅.Love your videos, great job 👍🙏🏽

      I've been buying them for 6 years. I normally order 3 every year. It's the same shipping cost ship 3. You also get 3 tops to plant and start your own.I have almost 100 of them growing now. Sometimes they're sold out. I'd say John needs them just as much as they need John. But they are delicious!

      I went to Hawaii about 8 years ago and will say that pineapple there is SO different from pineapple in the mainland. I guess they pick them unripened and ripen them with chemicals as they get shipped. It's sooooo good there. I jumped on the site because I was considering getting some. However, I don't know if the pineapple is $30/each good. lol I can get "crappy" pineapple for $5, it's good enough. $10 each, yeah, I might have paid that.

      Sadly, they do seem quite pricey. However, having been raised in HI and lived there most my life, I have first-hand experience of just how much more expensive the cost of living is in comparison to just about every other place in the US. It’s not South America where the land and labor is DIRT CHEAP. Shipping to/from HI is also astronomical as everything perishable has to fly. All this PLUS the extreme care that is taken to ensure the highest quality end product required for the maximum customer satisfaction expected of such a gourmet, high-ticket food item! For all the labor and costs involved, they probably don’t make tons of profit.
      I LOVED that John talked about using the tops to grow your own pineapple plant-genius way to extend the value and maximize the use of such a high ticket food item!
