עדויות לחורבן בית שני נחשפות בימים אלה בעיר דוד

בשטח חפירה חדש שמנהלת בימים אלה רשות העתיקות בגן לאומי עיר דוד, נחשפים שרידים קדומים של מפולות החורבן הרומי של ירושלים. בין היתר התגלו שבבי פחם של קורות עץ שנשרפו במהלך החורבן, שברי כלי אבן מעוטרים שהיו בשימוש תושבי העיר ערב החורבן, משקולת אבן, פלך טוויה, וקערת שחיקה מבזלת. כמו כן, נחשף מטבע מהשנה השנייה למרד הגדול ברומאים, הנושא את הכיתוב "לחירות ציון".
לדברי מנהלי החפירה מטעם רשות העתיקות שלמה גרינברג וריקי זלוט הר טוב: "לחזור לכאן אחרי 2,000 שנה ולחשוף מחדש את שרידי החורבן של ירושלים במיוחד כשמדובר בחפירה שמתקיימת זמן קצר לפני תשעה באב, זה דבר מרגש מאד שלא ניתן להישאר אליו אדישים".

Terrific! Every pupil in Israel's schools should visit this site. It proves that the descriptions by our historian, Josephus, in the Jewish War were correct. I am bilingual, so I have no problem with Hebrew, but English subtitles are necessary for most viewers.
