Building a Bog Filter to Clean my Natural Pond

- Update: I sat on this video for a while, so I wanted to give a few updates.
For one, despite the numerous ways I could have done this project better, this filter actually works extremely well. If I have it off for a while and start it again, in a matter of days the water is significantly clearer. So that’s nice!
However, there are a few things I would definitely have done differently. I did not leave nearly enough space in the bottom of the barrel, so I do have concerns about future clogging, even though that hasn’t been an issue yet. I also definitely need to get a much lower flow pump as mentioned in the video.
Another huge issue I’ve had is raccoons! I haven’t found a way to stop them from pulling hoses out, so I’ll wake up and find half the pond drained because of their shenanigans. So I probably need a much heavier duty way of fixing the output hose.
This is more a general issue, but if you can, really avoid having a pond directly under a tree, especially one with tiny leaves, because stuff is constantly falling into the barrel and clogging the hose. I actually added a mesh strainer around the overflow pipe which has helped.
Lastly, I tend to just make things up as I go along, but I was inspired by two people in particular:
Kev of ozponds, where I got the design of the filter via this video: • Cheap pond filter| Bog...

Thanks for watching!
every video you make is beautiful. loved all the work that went into this, from the bog filter animation to the elegant tri-panel shot for the overfill interface. looks and sounds gorgeous! can't wait for the next one!
