She fucked up at the beginning and the playing threw her off but she didn't do it again. You can tell she was nervous until halfway through and got her bearings.
I served Annie tonight. She is an amazing human being. When she looked me in the eye and spoke to me, I melted. I had no idea who she is. But now I do! Love her talent!
I was obsessed with this performance a few years back and I’m just now noticing that you can hear Annie or one of the singers give the starting pitch while Letterman’s introducing them
When I watch her videos on you tube, it's strange to me how many so called "real guitarists"(self proclaimed) talk shit about her playing technique. they seem to be very mean about it also. Her playing is solid & quite original, (especially when you consider that in modern music, it's ALL been done before) her writing is excellent, & her melodic sensibility is exquisite. Add to that her vocal ability, and that's why she gets the attention she gets, all well deserved. So, word to the haters out there - she doesn't fucking need you! She's just too nice (and confident) to bother saying that.

VINCENT'S MUSIC. such mesmerizing melody, harmony, rhythm, beat, and TIMBRE. love the music and her MUSICIANSHIP.
I remember meeting her a couple of months ago and she was seriously the nicest person in the whole entire world. I got to spend a couple hour with her in the studio for her latest album which comes out in Feburary 2014!
If you mean you actually saw her show live, then I would say, "Cool, jealous". If you mean, "best live performance on youtube", then check out David Bowie with Adrian Belew doing 'Stay'. Or Talking Heads 'Stop Making Sense'. Just suggesting some cool stuff - not trying to 'one-upsmanship', if you know what I mean.
I can see why she and David Byrne hit it off, her guitar playing reminds me a lot of what Byrne and Harrison were doing in 'More Songs About Buildings And Food' and 'Fear Of Music'.
She did imply it is a not so great guitar in an interview where she is trying to show off a technique and says, "If I wasn't using a Sears guitar," regarding her inability to execute the technique to perfection. She rocks it, but she knows its a guitar with limitations.
That guitar has more name brand components stuffed into it than you could wrap your head around. An unmolested original Harmony would not have the output to even be considered useful in a live setting. She has a a good tech and money out the wah-zoo.
the most amazing part of all of this is: she is only just playing around! My dreams may not even have the depth to see how wonderful our Jewel our perfect rose will blossom! Oh, Annie!
Pouring through RUclips looking for live Annie. If she blew your mind in 2011, man.... She is a historic talent & it's a great fortune to be alive while she creates art.
larry scheller O yes a Pullizer for your writing. Do you ever hear what someone is actually saying or just exaggerate their comment to create a way to put them down?
Whatever "faces" or "looks" she gives or doesn't give, I could care the least ... she was awesome. This is my kind of guitar playing. And what an incredible voice. She is definitely on my radar.
@@bromunculus6117 I mean... Oingo Boingo was a new wave band as was David Byrne who she has worked with professionally. So that's not too far off from accurate.... idk idk idk
this performance best exemplifies her chops. while I love all of here music, I really love when she really sings and belts it out. wish she did it a little more. if anyone has any other songs where she does this I would really appreciate knowing about it.
As a big fan of quirky,I'm glad to have found St. Vincent; I struck that her back up band reminds me of the Residents and her guitar work sounds like she was influenced by or studied with Snakefinger; this is all meant as very high praise.
My dad would turn 67 this year. I miss him. St. Vincent reminds me of him. One of his favorite musicians of this decade. June 1952 - February 2015. I love him!
@@jukeboxxx. Glad to hear you are ok. I lost my dad years ago (27 years ago and he'd be around 72 yo) and he was the one who turned me on to music that isn't just the "popular" music. My poor daughter is learning to love music outside of her "popular" music as well. :) How great it is to have dads who help us love all kinds of music.
given how many times she appeared on his show, I think Save had a bit of a crush on Annie......oh, he admired her immense talent as well! by the way, dig the 1960's Harmony guitar ( the pawn shop special in the day )
Always admired people who could sing and also play some contrapuntal riffs on an instrumental at the same time. So hard to do.
Digital.Gods yeah when u have to sing a different note to what you're playing in a riff its quite a battle against your brain
She fucked up at the beginning and the playing threw her off but she didn't do it again. You can tell she was nervous until halfway through and got her bearings.
You could see her syncopating
Way harder than people think
@XxDanSoloxX : Always a keyboard warrior with no talent willing to make talk bullshit.

Robert Quadrini That's pretty cool! How did you find her stuff?
+Robert Quadrini you lucky and unaware fool
Did she serve you after?

Her sense of melody is absolutely astonishing.

HOW DOES SHE SING SO PERFECTLY WHILE PLAYING LIKE THAT?????
Talent.
Practice.
She has admitted that this song in particular is very hard to sing and play
+steve smithson Look up Jimi Hendrix's performance on youtube...

Time is crazy, anybody else feel like Strange Mercy was a couple years ago and David Letterman was a hundred years ago?
funny how you mention that because strange mercy just turned 10 years old !!!
this is the most attractive our species can be

Shes a total f’ing baberaham lincoln who’s talented as f’ck too. Amazing artist. Did i mention shes smokin hot

Incredible vocals on this one, I didn't expect her to get them so perfectly when I saw she also had to play the guitar
I'm genuinely surprised

larry scheller Jeez dude, I may have come to this thread late, but what'd she do to you, run over your dog?
larry scheller I'm not kidding. She went to my church and had a couple of us choir people do back up vocals for the album.
"They could take or leave you, but they took you and they left you! How can I be casually cruel?"
Probably the greatest live performance I've ever seen,
You really should get out more!

😂
She is a musical genre all of her own. Fantastic.
Depuis le début du groupe St Vincent , j'adore et évolution est magnifique Annie Clark et merveilleuse il y a du David Bowie dans ses gènes :-)
I love that she rocks a HARMONY guitar. Kind of a middle finger to guitar brand snobs!
I learned to play on a Harmony, bought it from a friend back in the early 80's for a hundred bucks.
KevFL26 she has a $1500$ signature Ernie ball now....

larry scheller Just my opinion. Please don't use "retarded" as an insult.
She seems like a genuinely nice person.
Aside from her skill writing the music, lyrics, her guitar work - her gift, the lovely voice @ 2:32 soars!
Her voice is so beautiful and soothes my soul!
this particular version of the song achieves the sublime
Unique, not afraid to not fit in, eccentric, yet melodic.
A bit of genius!! Rock on girl
What the hell. She is so good live. Nearly flawless..
Love the sound of this group. She has his quite unique style (remember me some Tori Amos on guitar). Discovered it recently ...
She is very talented. I just stumbled upon her music last week as Ive been living in a cave. I have a lot of catching up on her music to do.
I think she is soooo freakn beautiful and talented!!!
there's a saying about learning the rules of music and then breaking them. I think this is a good example.
I stumbled into a st Vincent song, watched Annie do an interview and i cant stay away.
