I will never forget being in the stadium for the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Her performance, on that night, is, in my humble opinion, the greatest ever by a female or male performer. The power in her voice is incredible.
agreed! I was lucky enough to be there for the rehearsal the night before & we weren't allowed to talk about any of it until after the next night. I think everyone there was in agreement that Vanessa's song was the hardest one not to share! Waiting for the trains home, it was all anyone was talking about, was absolutely the best vocal of the games!!!!!! Emotion wise, Midnight Oil at the closing gives her some competition, I was a volunteer & there on a free ticket, but most were not, most were rich & corporates & hearing the entire stadium knowing the words & singing "it belongs to them, lets give it back" was something else! There had been so much politics about Aboriginal land rights & the stolen generation & so on at that time, so that really was mind blowing hearing 120,000 people, mostly very rich ones, all singing that, in a stadium with amazing acoustics, where it just echoed & sounded spectacular! Christine Anu changing the words of "my island home" from being about her & her people to being Australia as the island home & including us all was pretty special too, but vocally nothing compared to Vanessa!
To be honest, I wasn't ready for all this *VOCAL SLAYAGE* when I first watched it & I'm still not ready. Also reminiscent of *Aretha.* 🌟
Vanessa Amorosi is the greatest female vocalist on the planet. Her electric-guitar like timber really sets her apart from everyone else & it truly compliments the Rock-Soul music she makes today. Her mezzo-soprano low/middle notes & soprano upper register/head voice - make her lethal among her peers. She's extremely underrated. Awesome video.

@@Oliver2020. "Technically, Vanessa is much better than Dimash". hahaha Yes, in the technique of mask singing, which is by far the easiest technique to learn, giving it a small, metallic sound, without resonance, Even my dog Fido has mastered it. 😂😂😂 Dimash uses the only two resonators of the vocal cords (pharynx and throat) in each vocal register and is able to switch between them very easily (this is TRUE vocal agility, not the stupid vocal runs of your amorossi 😘), and Dimash in the guttural tension above. passaggio notes are necessary to create a real resonant sound (not the mask=amorossi technique). The real support is provided by the diaphragmatic adominals (exactly ten muscles) and in Dimash's case they work perfectly throughout his range (except in the vocal register of fry and whistles where the 'false' muscles work and not the diaphragm). His basses have operatic projection reminiscent of the singers of yesteryear: J Borling, Fletta, Carusso, Jhoan Sutherland, Monserrat Caballé, etc (low larynx and open pharyngeal space) up to F2. When he feels like it, he mixes and changes the muscles he uses (mask / nasal sound / high larynx) if he plays notes up to E2, etc etc etc etc etc. In summary Dimash passes him the eggs! Lol
@@josehoefken9509 Not really. A lot of things you said are incorrect by the way. Dimash cant support an ending note lasting 26 seconds in full belt with resonance the way vanessa did. human being Sohyang technically has better resonance. She's more open, thicker & heavier. Vanessa always use hyper compression in her upper-belts most of the time so she actually has thinner resonance. But her output is naturally big & weighty, she's also really bright bcuz of her heady mix. That's why she gives an illusion that she's better in Sohyang, resonance-wise.
@@resurgingflame Nope, she's definitely a tad better here because she doesn't use overwhelming twang plus she sustains more. Her sound mainly comes from being a Falcon Soprano (her upper belts have a very similar sound to Aretha in her prime).

She wasn't one to break down doors to conquer the world like your Madonna's and Lady Ga Ga's etc. She'd rather feed the chooks and tend the horses etc. She had the career she wanted.
@jocriss Well that's your opinion, and I did say sometimes I believe. Kelly for me was a great vocalist in her peak, there's nothing to really fault about her when she first started. Unless you want to count low notes because more like Whitney and Mariah and less solid like Vanessa's, Or some inconsistency towards the end. Her high notes were nowhere NEAR as shouty at Beyonces have been, and she didn't awkwardly neck tilt and pull up like Beyonce does either. I could say the same about JHUD, they're not as good now days, but they've had their moment I guess. There are only a hand full of singers I have heard now days that have the whole package, the lows, middle and high notes.
@jocriss I know what they sound like, I own their music lmao I wouldn't say Whitney is well supported on low notes at all, they dissipate into air, I wouldn't say that Mariah is well supported on low notes either, again air, and Kelly... Again , air. Vanessa, Beyonce and Aretha are good examples of low note support. Again, it's really not a matter of how low they all go, but the quality, and strength of the notes.
@jocriss It's really not, but nice try lol You already admitted she is airy. How can you be airy and supported at the same time, you do understand that in order to make such an airy sound ,it requires vocal chords that are not making correct contact? You have already conflicted, It's a long slide to the bottom, but if you must go down hill by arguing in a contradictory fashion, can we at least make the descent quick and stop with this comment? Thanks

She wasn't one to break down doors to conquer the world like your Madonna's and Lady Ga Ga's etc. She'd rather feed the chooks and tend the horses etc.
She had the career she wanted.
Live from Australia opening here sebtmber 2000 o my old 10 year
Australian National Treasure. Love her.
It's been a month since you last reacted to Mariah Carey. You need to react to Anytime You Need A Friend C&C Club Mix. Please!

She is the kind of singer that when others start whistling she be like see you up there coz girl sings in whistle.....lol
Look up a song with Vanessa and Dave Stewart
So Hyang is one of the best. But Don't sleep on Vanessa Amorosi and Monica Naranjo.
There are lots of really great singers still. Monica yes, Vanessa yes, Nikka Costa, Diana King, I'd say Kelly Clarkson way back was so good also.
@jocriss Well tbh Whitneys lows aren't that great, and Mariah is very airy. So I think Kelly's lows are on par with theirs.
Thanks
She sang it way better than céline..
If you're still taking suggestions then can you please listen to Vanessa Amorosi - AFI awards?
