- Jury Duty is a new docu-style comedy series that takes an exclusive, never-before-seen look at the highly classified experience of serving on a jury. In a normal case, jurors are forbidden from revealing any details about the case they preside over, but this isn’t a normal case. The entire case is fake, and everyone involved is an actor - except for one guy who thinks the whole thing is real.

Ronald is such a great “protagonist”. His realistic reaction through all of this is the best thing ever.

It bothered me that they kept calling him “the hero” when they showed the behind the scenes episode, though.
Every comedy needs a ‘straight man’: a normal guy the audience can attach to in contrast to the wackiness around them.
@@WonderfulWorldofAwesomeness Do you mean the "hero's journey" vs calling him a "hero" in the end? Because those mean two different things. "Hero journey" I think is more specific to story and plot structure. Calling him a hero in the end was about his character and moral decision making.

The fact that it’s all non scripted and no re-takes is awesome. They get one shot in real time.

I saw Kurt Russell at my jury duty....and wound up in an elevator with him, so seeing the James Maarsden angle weirdly connects with me.
It’s always a complete freak show. I sat through one jury selection process where they literally picked a guy to be on the jury who was missing a good 1/4 of his head. I kid you not. He could barely answer questions like his own name. Me and the other people sitting in the room who didn’t get called up were all shocked when they didn’t dismiss him and instead put him on the jury

You how they say that "smart people get out of jury duty", the reality is that lawyers make sure that smart people don't get jury duty.
So a guy missing a part of their brain but can still complete sentences is someone lawyers want.
This show works because if you’ve ever been in jury duty (especially here in California) it feels very surreal and like they’re putting on a show.
What do they do if the non-actor they chose recognizes Kirk Fox but not James Marsden?
I watched with other people somehow I'm the only one who recognized him!!
Funny you said this because they mentioned in interviews that initially Kirk Fox had a much bigger role to play and so many more bits that were supposed to play out. But early on Ronald made an off hand comment to someone about how much he loved Parks and Rec. So production immediately had to tell Kirk to dial it way back and basically just fade into the background and not do much to attract attention. They had him grow out his beard as well. Ronald said it was a good thing that they did that because he already had the feeling that he knew Kirk from something and just couldn't place him. So, if he had done too much more to be funny and stand out, he would've made the connection.
Looking forward to watching this lol LOVE James Marsden and him playing himself but as cocky and annoying lol cant wait

Just finished, was pretty funny... but couldn't help thinking at the end, how is this legal? Faking a trial, holding up someone's life for a few weeks... I guess they're lucky he's a nice guy and doesn't sue, the $100k was damage control no doubt.

He is playing himself. Celebs also have jury summons. Literally every US citizen does.
I am not good with putting faces to names to begin with, but even if you told me all of their names, I wouldn't know who a single person was in all of this . Some people just aren't interested in "pop culture", and therefore don't follow it.

James Marsden is extremely underrated as a comedic actor; he was the best part of Enchanted and he was also great in both Sonic movies, specially during his interactions with Jim Carrey.
Other than that, I don't really get what the point of this show is. To see if the guy realizes he's being pranked?

I watched this when all episodes were out and I loved the characters and Ronald so darn much I ended up watching it again. It made me laugh twice. I don't know how they could find anyone to fall for this again or find anyone as genuinely sweet and kind as Ronald but if they could, I'd be glued to it.

Surely the whole "people trying and failing to get out of jury service" was quite suspicious tho. Cos they cld just say, "I'm not happy being filmed as part of the documentary". Wouldn't Ronald find it odd that he had responded to a Craigslist ad to get jury service for the documentary? And then surely he believes the others did that too...so why would they 'sign up' for the jury service and then, all of a sudden, no longer want to do it?
It's quite risky to have those slight plot holes at the start. What wld they have done if he'd just figured it out? (it does make me suspicious tbh)
I feel like the success of the show hinges on Ronald not caring to think too hard about it. I haven't seen it yet, but I wonder if they had some sort of "audition" disguised as a jury selection process where they picked the most trusting person out of everyone who responded to the ad. I know I would be suspicious as hell in his shoes.
