I actually like how this song isn't really that much like what you would consider a typical "Deus Vult" song. It's almost entirely about the Crusader's awe and humility in the presence of the Holy Land, the place where Christ walked the Earth, rather than being about battle or conquest. That makes sense, because talking about battle and conquest requires you to talk about yourself a lot, whereas the writer of this hymn/song realized how insignificant he was compared to God.
Pferd Schild They said *typical*, not actual, "Deus Vult" song. The typical Deus Vult song heard nowadays is like the bombastic "In the name of God" the memers like to abuse every time a sentence related to anything Crusader or anti-Saracen/Muslim is uttered. The actual Deus Vult songs are songs like this. although I do have to agree with you on how cancerous the meme culture was

I think the German language has to be one of the most beautiful spoken. Whether in the form of a religious hymn or military march, German songs have always stood out as exceptional.
English speakers: "noooo, German angry, noo noo, German harsh, me not like German, me smart!" While the only German he heard is German from American propaganda movies.
Palästinalied is probably the most popular crusader-song in the modern day. I didn't use to understand the reason, (I always loved it, don't get me wrong) but now after hearing this version, I think I get it. Is this the sound of a bloodthirsty conqueror? No, it's the hymn of a man who has experienced the most important thing in his life. I understand how this is so excellently portrayed thanks to this version. The singer starts by simply speaking in a mesmerized fashion. He is overwhelmed. When his emotion grows to much for speaking, he begins to chant. Then, imagine the grace of his Saviour, he can no longer contain himself. He sings. What does this man sing? A confession of faith. This is what he needed in his life, to see the Holy Land. For him, it affirms his faith, instilled at a young age. Perhaps he never really had a very strong faith, but this sight changes all that. Just by being here, he understands. The awe consumes him. Then, with his emotions at a height, he sings again. This time, it's what we expect more from a crusader song; you can hear the "God wills it!" (Deus vult, there, I said it) in his voice. Now, his mind is on conquest, but still not one of greed and villainy that most thik of. For this man, it is truly a Holy War. Most singers don't perform these last two verses, likely because they don't want to seem like they support a physical holy war, but these verses put that "holy war" into context. That is why this man is here, even if his being here is the most important thing to him. The Crusades were not a glorious fight; war never is. There were also mercenaries fighting fir wealth and prestige, just like any conflict true, some men are just bloodthirsty. I also don't agree with all of the sentiments of the crusades, but those were the views at the time, and these people weren't evil for having them. This is why I think Palästinalied is so beloved; it isn't about the Crusades at all, unlike many other crusader-songs; it's about the mindset of a crusader and the story of a man whose faith is re-newed by the sight of a place he has long heard of but never seen. Now he lives worthy. Many can relate to this, whatever their life-changing moment was, it surely felt similar to this. This song certainly gave me a similar moment, experiencing this man's pure, raw emotion. Songs like these give us a view of people from an oft-studied point in history and show that maybe, the aren't so foreign and different from us after all?

It sounds quite beautiful and better than most versions of this song around, HOWEVER it doesn't sound medieval. I didn't know this version, which has more lyrics than some others. It's funny how the last verses still apply to the Jerusalem conflict of today somehow
Zanlam Really strange. First Jews, then Muslims, then Christians and Muslims fought over it. Then Muslims kept it and now Jews again. Think it will ever go back to the Christians and that might keep it?
No chance for that, the era of crusades is over. Now it's only the people living there, fighting for it. But it will probably end in blood. This region is too unstable, everyone is plotting against each other. Demographics could shift rather quickly and play a huge role in the outcome (secular Jews = low birth rates, Palestinian arabs and orthodox Jews = very high birth rate)
treznorify Yeah, but you do have my nation (Amerika) fighting in the Middle East. So maybe the crusades never really ended, only came to a halt for a few thousand years. Then you have the Islamic immigration into Europe and you’ve seen how much of a problem that will cause. History does repeat itself, so we might see another crusade.
Well, I'm not a big follower of American politics, but from what I've seen, in every presidential campaign, each candidate tries to show how much he supports Israel more than the other one. So it doesn't look like there's any big interest in the Christian community to reconquer Jerusalem except from internet trolls. Honestly I'm not too concerned about it, Jews can have it, or Muslims can have it, whatever. I'm more concerned about Europe, as you say. Muslims come endlessly, and they have higher birth rates than Europeans : especially in countries like Germany, France, UK, Belgium, Sweden. If there is something that could be considered as a crusade, it won't be for Jerusalem. It will be to retake our own European soil. But populations and leaders are spiritually numb, they don't even realize what's going on, or pretend not to. Eastern countries are much more aware of it.

My Brother. Hello from north cyprus!
Wow this is probably the best comment about the Palästinalied so far, you went really deep and I like the result!

Europe was basically colonized following the rout from North Africa passing by the Middle East to the Caucasus and/or Bosphorus. @AutobahnWars I've read the Bible years ago. I appreciate the comment but I'm passed religion.
ApachE so agnostic it is?
ApachE yep dropped out of highschool so u have a point there but for me agnostic is the only logical way to look at it anyway yet stil i say "thank god" for thats what my parents and just about anyone often says it regardless of their believes
We, the sons of Crusaders, shall never recoil before the sons of Voltaire.
One beautiful song! It's sounds Medieval somehow. Gorgeous. Love the German language as it is of my ancestors!🇩🇪🎼❤️🤔🌹❗
It sounds Medieval because it is Medieval. ;-)
Written by Walther von der Vogelweide, who lived 800 years ago and who is the most famous German lyricist from that era.
@@laforzadeldestino4426 It is also one of the rare cases wher the Notes where written down and preserved till today
@ChrisK312 that's just notes though, the presentation and Instrumentality is a very modern style. We have treatises detailing how song such as thia would've been performed in period, and it'd be quite a bit different.
It sounds quite beautiful and better than most versions of this song around, HOWEVER it doesn't sound medieval. The instruments, theoretical framework and techniques are more similar to what would've been practiced in the early modern period onwards. A more medieval presentation would've incorporated a lot more melody ornamentations, melismatic singing and (and this is very important) little to no harmony.

@@BronzetheGolden Well, Egypt is secular now. That's not much better than Islam; but it's a start. Hopefully, Christians can reclaim Egypt.
Just came across this .
This doesn't feel like a normal song .
It's powerful and makes one sad and shiver at the same time 😍💥🙏 Respect you 🙏
Oh Mann, wenn das wirklich so gesungen wurde früher.... Ich wäre aber sowas von beindruckt als einfacher Knecht und hätte mich so klein gefühlt mit gleichzeitiger Bewunderung für diese Kämpfer!! Glück auf
My ancient ancestors were Teutonic Knights. It is always great to hear songs of the past. It really strikes something strong deep inside of me.
Душевная музыка!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
This has become my favorite version of this amazing song
As an Muslim Arab this is THE most beautiful and breathtaking religious chant I’ve ever heard
During the crusades there was a German emperor called Friedrich. He lived most of his life in sicily and had contact with the islamic world there, learning even the language. He met many muslime leaders in Palestine and treated them with respect, getting Jerusalem without any bloodshed. There is a small docu about him:

Sadly only in German.

Shut up!! JESUS IS GOD@satida
I have a friend obsessed with the crusades and I’m obsessed with the World Wars. We found our song.
Have you done any reenacting? If not, that's how I curb my love for the history of the world wars and I'd recommend it. There's just something about being around people that love the same things you do, and put their time into reenacting history for the pure enjoyment of it.
I’m obsessed with both lol
I didn't know this version, which has more lyrics than some others. It's funny how the last verses still apply to the Jerusalem conflict of today somehow
Yeah even after nearly 1000 years people still fight over Jerusalem.
Strange place, isn't it?
Zanlam
Really strange.

Yeah, but you do have my nation (Amerika) fighting in the Middle East.
Eastern countries are much more aware of it.
its time my brothers and sisters to prepare for the worst has yet to come as the darkness is coming close we must stay calm and still remember that we are people that must unite under one rule in order to survive a event so bad that we must learn how t not use electricity so we may make it to the end and see our lord spread the word
As levantine Muslim , this song really does have a certain beauty to it ,a reminder of times when songs actually spoke to people.
I really Hope that Muslims'Christians and jews can live together without hate or conspiracy
