I love how weird Buttons is, because anything about him becomes plausible. Even being a shapeshifting sea-witch. That would actually explain a lot, from his cannibalistic tendencies (what if his true form eats humans) to speaking fluent seagull.
what i extra love about the timing of that last bit is that it's not until ed thinks izzy is dead that he actually goes full-throttle into death wish territory. before, he was just raising hell in hopes of filling the void. but now that the one person who stood by him through literally everything else opted out? time to steer the ship into a storm and break the wheel! it speaks volumes about how much izzy means to him that he didn't QUITE hit rock bottom until izzy left him, too.
Izzy and Ed both wanting to be dead so bad 😩 Ed not wanting to do it himself, trying to get Izzy to shoot him, and when that didn't work steering the ship into a storm and trying to get the crew to kill him. Izzy finding the strength to protect his crew one more time. "Finally." Why don't you just stab me in the heart instead.
"I loved you, best I could." This freaking line has been living rent free in my head for days, ripping my brain and my heart apart. I'm like Jack Skellington trying to decipher the meaning of Christmas, "What does it mean!?" Maybe I'm trying to fit a round peg into a square whole, but it feels like that line has layers and more than one interpretation, as well as hope in the horizon. Ed was previously so consumed by his apathy and is now so consumed by his heartbreak that he can't see 2 feet in front of him, let alone the man who's been by his side since the beginning. I think it's safe to say that Ed is rather self obsessed, his feelings and POV blinds him to the feelings of others. That's why he was so excited to run away with Stede that he didn't see that Stede was clearly conflicted at the beach. Why he punishes Izzy and the crew for his pain without care to their feelings, etc. There's a lot healing and confrontations needed in the future. Can't wait to see it.
Your doggie was also excited about Lucius! But on a serious note, that resigned almost relieved, "Finally," when he's achieved suicide by proxy...its haunted me since I watched it. The acting in this season is soooo...on point.
If you noticed, you can see ed's wearing stede's cravat before offing himself. At the place where he and stede had their foot touching moment from s1e08. Someone on tumblr made a post about this and I haven't been the same since 😭😭😭 Anyway! Didn't expect you to drop ep2 so soon!! Thank you so much, your reaction to this amazing show always made my night!
I think another very good series for you to react to on the channel would be Good Omens, especially the second season which is incredible but to understand everything, you first have to watch the first season.
i’m addicted to watching reactions of the show because literally we are all the same people we all react exactly the same because as I watch the reactions I remember exactly how I reacted to when I first saw it and I was like meeeee!
I think this show, especially these first few episodes, really showcase how great an actor Taika really is. Not saying his previous roles have been bad or anything, but he has generally stuck to comedic role with very little range. Which is fine, he knows where he’s the strongest, but as Blackbeard/Ed he really gets to stretch his acting skills and it’s fantastic. The fact that he can manage to be funny as well as genuinely menacing and intimidating at the same time is phenomenal and the scenes where he is emotionally vulnerable is also amazing. Like that final episode in season 1 in the blanket fort, when his face slowly crumbles into a grimace of pain and grief, just… ugh, it’s so good! And so far this new season is full of moments like that. I can picture the crew and actors having a hard time keeping the mask and not cracking up in certain scenes that aren’t meant to be funny but because of Taika’s acting can come across as funny, but as we see them in the show he really comes across as a emotionally and mentally unbalanced man who’s had his heart broken and doesn’t know how to handle it. And you genuinely feel sorry for him, even as you’re kinda worried and scared of what he’s going to do next, if he’s actually going to kill anyone or hurt anyone or himself. And it never feels out of place. The show is a romantic comedy so it makes sense that the humor is still there, but the darker and more emotional aspects still fit the tone and feel of the show. I respect if Taika is more comfortable in roles that are comedic and he gets to act silly, but I also hope we see him in roles that allow him to be more versatile and dramatic because he’s amazing at it.
i’ve watched the first three episodes every day since they’ve aired. the opening notes of “run from me” and ed pushing his cake topper closer to stede’s immediately makes me burst into tears every time. the way they use this song is incredible. it comes back at the end of the episode when the more sinister sounding part of the song kicks in. during the “some people are just broken, no matter what you do” convo with lucius. and the lyrics start again just before ed says, “end her or i’ll end us all!” it’s SO good. i’m so obsessed with this show

This episode is so heavy in subject matter and it really hit me hard, but even that didn't diminish how fucking pretty Ed is in the man bun with his slut strands out, I'm still entirely not over it, omg!!! We all knew Lucius was coming back, but I still yelled in joy when he showed up 😅 I was also 99.99% sure he was the other man on board as soon as they said that and it still got to me 😅 I fucking love this show and I can't wait to see your reaction to ep 3!!!

I think the idea of Edd trying to have Izzy shoot him, isnt cause he wants to die. Its because Edd wants a reason to live. Or, a releif of the guilt. Hes trying to (wheather he knows it or not), blame those who cant kill him, for his own actions. They didnt kill him, so (in his eyes) the hell he causes on others is there fault not his. Hes going to cause more and more meham, and if fate doesnt kill him, (in Edds eyes), the world is telling him hes a good person. Hes tempting fate, asking the world to judge him. He hates himself, but wants to be told hes wrong.
I'm so sad that nobody knows what Izzy did to Ed at the end of season 1 (Edward better watch his step etc). Stede walking around thinking it's only him that broke Ed that badly. When it was just heartbreak, Ed was grieving in a pretty healthy way. He didn't break until Izzy threatened him for being too soft. Poor Stede thinks it was all him.

When you go back to episode 1x10, you'll see that Ed was already starting to heal, he was cleaning up and wanted to do a talent show with the crew until Izzy threatened his life and made him feel worthless and unlovable. That was the moment Ed withdrew again and did a complete 180 turn into the Kraken direction. I really hope for that reveal later in the second season so Stede can let go of at least some of the guilt he's feeling because Izzy made Ed push Lucius off the ship.
