Big dogs are generally so gentle~ I'm glad they emphasized that they're not an aggressive or scary breed despite their size. Their eyes are so pretty too

Me tooo!! We have lots of dogs and my family really likes our big dogs (Boxer, German Shepherds) because they’re much sweeter and more gentle..
I can’t say this for all dogs but ours are really sweet and loves to cuddle. They don’t know they’re big. 💕

Same but depending on the circumstances. I have been raised with a German shepherd, now he is 14, really old for a big dog like him, and he is having tons of issues, it breaks my heart. This big dogs tend to have more problems with their backs and joints, last week he couldn't even stand so we started with corticoid and pain treatments. Is reallly sad. Also, if you need to travel or move is really difficult as well. Last year I lived in another country because of work and I couldn't take him with me, he is too old to handle the airline restrictions and a flight, and I didn't wanna take him from my family house to an apartment. You have to think about money as well. Now Corona gave me time with him but the future is uncertain. An small dog is more convenient for you and for him if you are younger, not established in one place, travel, or live in an apartment, and big dogs when you are stabilised in one place and have enough space. But yeah, for their character big dogs are usually gentler but sadly we have to see the bigger picture.

My uncle has had 4 in my life time, I think 2 of them were found abandoned on a road. They were giant couch potatoes and very sweet and loving. It's a shame they only lived 5-7 years due to health issues.
I love Irish Wolfhounds! Such gentle giants. My family had Russian Wolfhounds/Borzois when my mother was young and they were also over 6' when standing.

Great dane and Irish wolfhounds are both tall dog breeds but they live for 7 years to 10 years and some of them dies at 5 years old.

They probably shouldn't really be bred - like other giant breeds, and purebreds in general, they have health problems. Personally I don't think people should breed any dogs though, as long as there are dogs in need of adoption.
I had a tall golden retriever(adopted from someone else, I wouldn't choose a purebred), and she was barely up to the armpits of wolfhounds we met, they can be absurdly and impractically large. Those 2 were transported in a van, their heads were touching the roof(possibly when sitting, I can't remember if they were sitting or standing).
Even 'normal' dogs are already a massive commitment, you have to look after them every day for years, and there can be many difficulties.

I dog sit for a dog that on all fours comes up to my stomach in height and he weighs more then me and I’m 20 years old. He’s a mix between a Great Dane and something else I don’t remember but he takes up an entire couch he’s huge but all dogs are just big babies is my point lol
