i love watching your videos every morning,,im learning how to take control of my finances,,,,thanks alot for taking your time to help the community...such of great tips!!
i used to listen to The Law of Attraction "The Secret" audiobook and you really sound like Rhonda Byrne. anyway, youre my favorite in this kind of niche. you speaks volume and gets me motivated to be minimalist. your voice is music to my ear! hehe love this vid. thank youuuuu x
Great video! We recently went down to 1 income due to health concerns. I can't stress enough the importance and significance of no debt and an emergency fund. The peace amidst chaos is absolutely incredible.
Jennifer, I needed the quick reminder so thank you! I was gonna wait until vacation is over to pay my electric bill, but I was like.....nah, let's go ahead & get it done. So I did, went and processed the payment asap. See, I could've waited because it's not due until 2 weeks from now. But now i don't have to worry about it! Especially since I will be missing 2 days on my next check due to vacation. Which I'm also not worried about, because now I have back up money! I'm almost done w/ my emergency fund, too! What a difference it makes, knowing it's there. Love your advice!
Debt grows like mold, love the analogy! I have all my paycheck direct deposited into savings, and then my set amount for bills automatically transferred into my checking at the beginning of the month. If the money isn't there, there is no temptation to spend!
I’m 56 , automatic payments out of your check before you get it. Every raise you increase savings. Yes pay bills as they come in and I’ve always had a zero based budget
We just keep stocked up on things we are low on. We try to get those on sale or at a good price. We mostly buy the sale items on the front of ads and meat on sale. We eat lower priced cuts of meat. Also, using baskets in the freezer shows at a glance what we are low on. A basket for chicken, etc. Surprised upright freezers don't come setup with these.
Automate all of your bills, even your credit card bill. Automate your savings. Automate everything. Then you don’t have to think about the date each bill is due..it’s automated
Credit cards have a job in our house. 3 cards, #1 husband uses it for gas and pet food purchases. #2 attached to Amazon only. #3 big purchases. RULE: pay off any CC spending IN FULL ALWAYS. WE KNOW WHERE EVERY DIME IS SPENT. It works for us.👍
Hey Jennifer. Thanks for another great video. For me, the most helpful comment is probably putting bug purchase events on a calendar and including them into the budget a couple of months before the date. This wil assist me to budget better but also, once something is includedvin the budget rather than being a last minute purchase on a credit card, I'll be more intentional about the purchase abd definitely spend less. Hello from Nottingham, UK.
I love these tips!! 😊 I never did any planning or aka budgetting in the paat but now i go by the envelope system now that has saved me so many headaches...And for me saving for a car to pay it all cash...Whoo Hoo...!!
Thanks, Jennifer! Good content, as always. My weak spot is meal planning, I have to admit. I am older and live alone, and often don’t plan ahead more than a couple of days. I need to challenge myself to pare down the grocery bill. Meal planning makes sense; I don’t know why I seem to be resistant to the idea of doing it.
Jennifer!! 😎 You always have such great tips and explanations and hard facts for those tips! I’m so glad your daughter is getting these first-hand lessons from you and we can all benefit also as I didn’t have these kinds of lessons as we didn’t talk about money management with our parents. It was verboten! Thank you!!
I have my main account with one bank. The other bank has what you would call my sinking funds....christmas, emergency, holiday etc Its all about personality to me that is alot easier then a spread sheet
You talked about paying the bills on the day you get it in the mail? Have you considered autopay for things like your mortgage and utilities, especially if you do equal payment plan on the utilities? Having utility bills the same 11 months out of the year is great. Usually the 12th month's 'settle-up-amount' is close to the normal amount, and I've been really happy when it's less than the normal amount. Also, no stamps to buy! Everything I pay is auto-pay except my credit card, which I pay off every month. I haven't had a balance that charged me interest for many years. Instead, they give me money for using my card.
I keep have a current (chequing) account and a savings account with one bank and my £1000 emergency fund elsewhere. I use a spreadsheet with different headings for the savings account; it's easy to see how much you have saved up for each category.
Hello - helpful reminders video The one that got my attention is the several bank accounts. I am guilty of this and I will simplify and use an excel spreadsheet for the various things I’m saving for. Thanks fir the tip!
I have a capital one checking with several savings accounts below it. You see them all on one page, it's all one bank statement. I do have an account at another bank, where I pay my bills.
I keep a folder separated by month. I put every receipt in another folder. At end of month we match receipts with my credit card and bank statement. We post totals to a spreadsheet to see monthly expenses. Keep back up until next year is done. Actually very easy. We know exactly what we spend.
Thank you Jennifer. I appreciate your content. What are your thoughts using funds for home repair upgrades or a vacation please? My husband and I are torn on which one to consider to stay within budget.
Hi Lisette, if you are torn, maybe you could do smaller versions of each to stay within budget. Sussanne is also right. Consider which you would enjoy more. 🤗

Set up auto payments.
How do donations even help anymore? You need to have 10000 in deductions in order for it to make a difference..
