Damn, those landscapes are stunning. I'm from germany and this video makes me wanna go there one day to see it for myself Also the way you shot those sceneries looks awesome 👌
Yes it's true that the U S has extreme variety in terms of geological features. There is frozen tundra, tropical forests, grasslands, flowery meadows, thick woods and more.
Loved the video! I'm from the Netherlands and live near the German border and only went once to the US, and that was to Oregon. Loved every second of it. Went to Portland, Bend, Smith Rock, Painted Hills, Mount Hood, Crater Lake, Yachats and Astoria. Definitely one of the most diverse and underrated states of the US!
In 1991 my husband and I drove all the way from San Francisco to Seaside along the coastal highway before we turned east towards Forest Grove where a friend and her husband went to university. This road trip was so unbelievably awesome - from the rainforest north of the California border to the wild rock formations along the coast. We spent a whole day in Seaside with our friend, getting saltwater taffies, and watching kites. On another day we visited a vineyard to discover that Oregonian wine is just as delicious as Palatinian wine. If I'd ever wanted to live somewhere in the US it wouldn't be Hawaii. California, or Florida. No, I'd choose Oregon, it's lovely.

Ok, i feel triggerd. Dear Laura, please visit "the most boring city" in Germany. It's a 30 min drive to where the mountains start, 2 hours to the highest northern german mountain. There's at least one german brewery on the way with beer you obviously never tasted. If you want to go to the sea, it's also a 2 hours drive. You could take a route through the Heide-region, where you will barely see houses or civilisation. Ah, rocks, yes, we have them too, we call them Extersteine. Worth a visit. Especially during winter time. Not even 2 hours to get there. I won't say anything about cars .... because you already did. But, yes, the US has some great places to visit. Greetings from Hanover
For me as a German Oregon is the perfect State. I love it because of its variety for almost 30 years now. Hope to be back soon and hopefully stay forever in the High Desert.
Hey Nick, Laura is great and you guys are a great couple. Hey, I flew to the States last week and was happily surprised to find „Unicorn Town“ in the movie selection on the flight. Really enjoyed it. Good job 😊!
As Germans, we fly to the USA Southwest since 1996. Have been there for more than 20 times (only Corona did not let us fly). We have been in Oregon as well, we have been in Bend and - finally - we have also been at Smith Rock Statepark (not "Nationalpark", as your Girlfriend says). We have been there in late summer and there were many many people climbing(!) in the walls. Its a really beautifull park, not very well known. We never made it in Winter to Oregon, but we also had plenty of snow in Mai and June(!), especially in the (Californien) "Lassen Volcano Park". Cant wait to come back again....
Yeah, tell me about it ... A little more than 30 years ago I was invited to stay at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Oregon had not been on my map before that, because it was - and still is - off the beaten path for most Germans. But, boy, what a journey it was! One of the most beautiful states in one of the most beautiful regions, Oregon has so much to offer and I am not even talking about the marvels of the Oregon Coast, Crater Lake or Columbia River Gorge. All this, and a lot more, combined with the wonderful people of the Pacific Northwest easily convinced me that Oregon and the whole of Cascadia is the most beautiful area of the USA. But whenever friends ask me about where they should go and I recommend Oregon they are reluctant of trying their luck and end up - like the huge majority of tourists - in the Southwest.
The Columbia River gorge is one of the most beautiful places I've been to, I consider Yosemite Valley to be the most beautiful place I've been to, Including many other beautiful places in the US and Western Europe(The Alps, and the Black Forest come to mind).
Wow so beautiful, such a wonderful landscape, and elks... So nice...My kids got a switch, by the way, for christmas.. And I would really love to try Mexican food in the US... And mountains, and beaches... Wow... And then, desert... Oh, my,,everything in one region... Thanks for allowing us to see all that, NALF... I know now where at least I would love to go for a holiday...
In my early teenage years The Goonies was a big hit movie that I really love to this day. I‘m almost exactly born in between Josh Brolin and Sean Austin. So I could relate a little bit to both, the teens and the kids. Since then the iconic coastline of Oregon is burned into my memories.
Vacation for my mind! Thanks for that!!! As a German I always loved to drive trough those empty landscapes in the US without other people anywhere. Straight line streets awesome landscapes. Beautiful National Parks everywhere. Just beautiful and with no worries in the world!
The beautiful National Parks aren't everywhere. Most of the people in the U.S. live east of the Mississippi River (the half of the country that has plenty of fresh water) and most of the iconic National Parks are in the west. So most Americans experience those parks by flying out and renting a car, too. There are a few spectacular parks in the east (in the Appalachian mountains and around the Great Lakes), but the huge desert vistas with straight roads leading into the distance are all in the western half.

From sunset strip, to universal studios, to Monterey, San Francisco, white water rafting, Yosemite NP, Lake Tahoe, Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, Rodeo in Cody, horse riding in Badlands NP, crossed the great planes, Mt Rushmore and Crazy horse Monument, a weekend in Chicago with jazz club and a baseball game, to Niagara falls and finally to NY city where I spend 5 days in museums and at broadway shows…. Love it that Laura loved Powell’s and craft beer. Hilarious about “a little German sized car” passing the Gladiator. I drive a Semi-Truck and i have been fortunate to travel all over your state of Oregon an that was 1 thing that always amazed me is how many different landscapes there are.
Yes, the American West will capture your heart. California, Oregon, and Washington all have these amazing beautiful landscapes. People are very friendly also.
8:10 YES. This is the single most biggest reason why I want to visit the US someday. Vastness. You don't get that anywhere in Germany and in very few places in Europe.
You truely dont understand the "vastness" until you experience it. America IS vast to be sure, but theres also areas of extreme desolation. Im from Kansas here in America, so im used to wide open spaces. Nothing but open prairies and farms for hundreds of miles, but there are areas in the deserts and high plains where the feelings of desolation really kick in. You dont see people, cars, buildings, powerlines, trees etc. for hours at a time. Being an otr ( *over the road* driver in an18 wheeler truck) spends weeks from home, a load (freight) can send you across the country and you get paid to do it! Its a geographically beautiful country and im blessed to live here...even WITH the modern stupidty. But then again, i dont spend much time staring at a screen! I get to stare at the horizon! It has no politics or agendas of any kind..just God's country. P.S.-- dont do the gimmicky NYC...LA...MIAMI thing. Those places are whole other little countries of their own.
Funny to watch your trip. We (2 Germans) choose Canon Beach for our marriage 5 years ago. You never know for what it might be good to have a record in the marriage register in Oregon 😎 The view was amazing, no photoshop fake required. Ans yes, this bookstore we remember too ...simply overwhelming and good for hrs to stay. Oregon underrated ? Yes - but definetely a place to visit!
It is the Great American Vastness. Once you leave the US eastcoast (the Boston to DC) area behind , America is just wide open & very lightly populated land (with only few exceptions) The total opposite to central Europe. Other similar ciuntries are Canada,Australia, Russia.
Right. Das habe ich auch genossen, diese endlose Weite, meilenlang gerade Strassen, so dass Kurven extra angekündet werden. Der Grand Canyon ..... Meine Fahrt von Key West über Tampa nach Orlando ..... traumhaft.
I LOVE Oregon! My parents met there and lived there for a little while, one of my best friends is from there, and my daughter is going to school there...An incredibly beautiful state.
Great video,Nick! It was cool to see the great outdoors of your backyard! Someone did forget the mustard on the corn dog and walking sticks for the hike.:-)
Oregon is stunning. It made me so "homesick". I've been twice to Oregon. - Once in summer and then in Winter. 🙂❤️❤️❤️ I'm so in love with this State. My favorite place to be, besides the gorgeous coast, is at Ollalie lake (spelling?) with a beautiful view on Mount Jefferson. The hike in the mountains looked so beautiful. 🙂❤️ That's exactly what I love about the States... driving without being able to see a single house for miles... just nature. Nature is just amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
@@TS29er ln my case I would not call it "Fernweh" ... It also feels like home to me, because I have really good friends living there, who I know from back then, when she lived in my hometown. We are family to each other. 🙂 Oregon will always have a special place in my heart, because of the many memories with my friends in this beautiful landscape. 🙂 You get to see places from a non touristy perspective that only the locals know. ❤️
He reminds me so much of Scott Disick when he’s just talking to the camera. I hope that’s not an insult to him, as it’s nothing personal, just cadence and mannerisms. Love it!
I was a couple times in the USA (AZ/NV/TX/GA/NC) and loved i but not wanted to live there. The most worse thing over there was the so called "sugar-covering" to almost all you said. Not mine at all. The landscape is so different in any region that was really amazing. People had been nice everywhere and it was always a great experience to me. If I must choose a region to live there I guess it would be Montana or Iowa. Boring, I know. but for me as german maybe the best place to stay at.
Great video, great showcase of Oregon! I have never been, but it looks like a place I like to visit. ALSO ... I got very hyped BECAUSE: I still have my blockbuster card from when I lived in New York (in the late 80's/early 90's). To know that there is still a blockbuster alive in the USA is so cool! Nostalgia and all ...
So much fun to watch your videos! I never regretted becoming a Patreon! Every penny, cent, dime well spent! Sad that my card hasn’t arrived yet, though🤪
I was surprised to see your Movie on my Delta Flight from Frankfurt to Atlanta in the Inflight Entertainment 👍👍👍👍 nice. now i am in dallas and guess what. talked to a security guard at my customers plant. and he knows you. and you might play him next season in germany. because he is going to play for marburg next. small world it is😊
Good show. Haven't been to that corner of the US. Great information, great presentation. Someday I will get back to Deutchland and eat some of the good food. I was a poor student previously and didn't go to restaurants. Can't wait to have a Berliner. Thanks
My brother moved to Portland in November, he visited the ocean this week hay stack rock. I knew about the book store. Learned a few things to visit when I visit him. Thanks
Seeing Laura’s reactions to everything is priceless. Somehow I knew that corn dog excitement wasn’t going last long though. Thanks for sharing her time in our Country. I’m now going to watch Unicorn Town for the second time. There’s one particular part of it I need to see again. The scene towards the end where you show the two coaches at halftime. There’s a message there that really sticks out to me.
My girlfriend and I traveled from canada through oregon and looked for sand dollars at the ocean..all the people were so friendly and helpful. We were very much in love with the country back then and would have loved to stay in the USA.
Ahhh Yes Oregon… 1985 went to the left coast for the Vancouver worlds fair with family . Well did allot of driving from Oregon to Vancouver and back. All said and done had a great beautiful time ( little did I know in 87 I’d be stationed at McChord AFB WA) what a blast. But at anyrate we were on the coast in Oregon can’t remember town it was late and starving for pizza soo go to order a pizza ( being Native NYers ) ordered a Pizza Pie ( Pie) and the woman behind counter goes you are not from around here are you!!! Well nope but the times spent on west coast from the family Vaca and my 18 months at Mc Chord were great and then came the Vaterland , and that’s a story in itself .. cheers guys Great vacation vids brought back memories …
I was hoping you would also visit the Painted Rocks (John Day Fossil beds) near Mitchell. They´re so impressive. Too bad. But loved your video! Greetings from good old Deutschland!
Ohh I just got back to Germany after visiting my parents in Astoria. Love love love the coast/seaside/cannon beach as well as the rest of oregon! So happy you guys went to Pig n Pancake, one of my favorites!
Pig-n-Pancake is still around? I celebrated a birthday there many years ago, after visiting Astoria, where I was born. I've lived in the beautiful PNW all my life.
Many Europeans love the Southwest. I did a bus tour many years ago of the Western National Parks. I think I was the only American on the bus. Mountains, rivers, lakes they have plenty of where they live. They want to see something different like Bryce Canyon, Death Valley, etc.
"It all changes so quickly - just within a couple hours!" To be fair, in a couple hours, I can get to midland France, Poland and ontop of the Alps. Buuut I got to admit, there ain't no deserts anywhere near central Europe :'D
breathtaking landscape - you see there are a lot pretty and beautiful places in Europe, but in the USA too. Thx for giving us this experience Love from Austria 🇦🇹🥰
...what a really beautiful and impressive trip report (ok, maybe apart from that weird fried thing at the beginning 😉) These rocks on the beach - are they the rocks from the movie The Goonies? 😮
I loved this video! As a Bend resident for 13 years, I recognized most of the footage in central Oregon. Oregon really is an amazing state. Glad that you got to show Laura some Oregon highlights!
I love Oregon. We spent our first vaccation there to escape the Florida heat. Fell in love with Portland, soooo different people than in FL. Enjoyed silver Falls Park, Bend, crater Lake and Bandon Beach. Have fun Laura - and I get it, i havve never been into beer in D, but loved the Microbrewerys. Fortunately there is a growing number of independen tsmall breweries now, that can create a decent IPA.
This was so interesting. I have never been in that part of the country. I had no idea it was so beautiful. I am so impressed with all the beauty you show both here and in Germany. You live in the area my grandmother came from in Germany,
@@dachecker79 Jeeps usually come with winter-rated off-road tires. The stock tires on a Gladiator wouldn't be plain old all-season or summer tires. RUclips has lots and lots of videos of Jeep Gladiators (and Wranglers that they're based on) driving in deep snow. But you do have to know how to engage the 4WD for starters.
I live 10 minutes from Smith Rock State Park, and it's always the first place I take company. On a clear day the view up top of Misery Ridge is spectacular.
Beautiful landscapes and nature! 🌲🌲 I follow Morgan Long on RUclips. She also lives in Portland, and as an avid reader like I am, she often visits Powell's. Being a former bookseller, seeing this bookstore is always a treat. 🙂📚
The bike shop I worked at would close and we would ride up into Colorado. On the way back we rode to Mesa Verde National Park. There we met some German tourist who were equally fascinated to see all of us on BMW motorcycles.
Sounds like the rental company failed to put good mud and snow tires on the Gladiator. Bummer. We love going to Bend, so thanks for the tip on a hike we now plan on taking. Glad you two had fun.
You make a southern oregon coast native gal PROUD! Next visit, come down to the south coast and I'll direct you to some amazing hidden gem sites!!! Love your channel!!
There are four reasons why traveling, especially traveling around, was very attractive in the U.S. in the 1990s: It was very cheap. Rental cars were cheap. Gasoline was very cheap. And, - motels (e.g. Motel 6) were cheap, - and they often had two king-size beds, which is very convenient for a family with two children, who thus only need one room. A comparable "road-trip" in Europe was hardly possible because of the hotel situation. In the time before internet and smartphone spontaneous hotel booking was hardly possible. In the U.S., on the other hand, you could see from a distance via neon signs whether a motel still had beds or was fully booked.
I've driven the Oregon Coast from Astoria to the California border. Its almost beauty overload! I mean for hundreds of miles its one stunny view after another. I spent the night in Astoria and Bandon during the trip. Astoria was really interesting with its long history and the Columbia River is amazing there. Bandon was nice and quiet and the beach there has lots of those large rocks sticking up out of the sand. Very pretty. Hey Nick, I'm not sure if you had the Gladiator in 4WD. Its a part time system and if you don't have it engaged its just 2WD (and rear wheel drive at that - worst traction). It should have easily been able to handle that road you were on with a little snow.
Man, this is a big country. Grew up in Virginia, lived in Rhode island, N. Florida, S. California and Hawaii but have not visited the NW or all of the states in between. It's on my bucket list. For all the Europeans reading this no, I don't need a passport...
Dude, there are almost 1500 different brewerys in Germany, more than 600 only in Bavaria. Most of them follow their own receipe in terms of how much they put in of every ingredient, where those ingredients are from (especially Hopfen or hops tastes way different depending on soil, sun exposure, temperature and altitude) and which water they use. Bavaria itself has 4000 different brands of beer, Germany as a whole 6000. And while most of them taste pretty much the same, depending on your definition there are 25 to 40 different sorts of beer, so to each their kind. Beer tradition is strongly regional in Germany. Hell, Spezial, Weißbier, dunkles Weißbier, Dunkelbier, Schwarzbier, Festbier, Kölsch, Export, Lager, Berliner Weiße, Fastenbier, Starkbier, Rauchbier... they taste so different, you would not believe they are all made from the same two plants and water only (as the law she is refering to = Reinheitsgebot) and maybe yeast in some sorts. I think your girlfriend never bothered trying them...
Gibt also einige Parallelen.

It has no politics or agendas of any kind..just God's country.
P.S.-- dont do the gimmicky NYC...LA...MIAMI thing. Those places are whole other little countries of their own.
Oregon is on my list for so long, I hope it will happen soon! Wow, love your video! Greetings from Baden-Württemberg🙋♀
Funny to watch your trip. We (2 Germans) choose Canon Beach for our marriage 5 years ago.
You never know for what it might be good to have a record in the marriage register in Oregon 😎
The view was amazing, no photoshop fake required.
Ans yes, this bookstore we remember too ...simply overwhelming and good for hrs to stay.
Oregon underrated ? Yes - but definetely a place to visit!
It is the Great American Vastness.
Once you leave the US eastcoast (the Boston to DC) area behind , America is just wide open & very lightly populated land (with only few exceptions)
The total opposite to central Europe.
Other similar ciuntries are Canada,Australia, Russia.
Concerning the vastness Sweden and Finland are similar! Few densely populated and large sparsely populated areas.
@@friedrichstock6377 True. Probaby the closest you can find in western part of Europe.
“Oregon is demur and lovely, and it ought to play a little hard to get” -Tom McCall
Yes it is! So is Washington State. I love the Pacific Northwest❤️
Look on YT for vids about downtown portland/oregon!
Great video,Nick! It was cool to see the great outdoors of your backyard! Someone did forget the mustard on the corn dog and walking sticks for the hike.:-)
Beautiful beautiful shots. And the interviews with Laura are great! It's lovely to see her reverse perspective to yours. :)
That's exactly what I love about the States... driving without being able to see a single house for miles... just nature. Nature is just amazing! ❤️❤️❤️
That's when the famous "Fernweh" kicks in :)
@@TS29er
ln my case I would not call it "Fernweh" ...
This is amazing to see America through her eyes. I loved Germany on my visits there.
Such a beautiful video! Thank you very much. Oregon appears to be like a dream for me.
Always well done. Thank you.
The landscape is breathtaking! I love it!
Great video!!
I was surprised to see your Movie on my Delta Flight from Frankfurt to Atlanta in the Inflight Entertainment 👍👍👍👍
nice.
now i am in dallas and guess what. talked to a security guard at my customers plant. and he knows you. and you might play him next season in germany. because he is going to play for marburg next.
small world it is😊
Loved every second of this one.
Good show. Haven't been to that corner of the US. Great information, great presentation.
Someday I will get back to Deutchland and eat some of the good food. I was a poor student previously and didn't go to restaurants. Can't wait to have a Berliner.
Thanks
My airline flight from Duluth to cancun had unicorn town!! I lurved it💕
My brother moved to Portland in November, he visited the ocean this week hay stack rock.
Wonderful video love the nature 👍
I've never been to Europe but I've seen a good chunk of the U.S. The Oregon coast is essential to visit.
I've lived in the beautiful PNW all my life.
man this was really nice, great trip.
I looove Oregon - it`s amazing! Have been there for months in 2017 and 2018.
breathtaking landscape - you see there are a lot pretty and beautiful places in Europe, but in the USA too. Thx for giving us this experience
Love from Austria 🇦🇹🥰
We went to the PNW last fall. I absolutely loved Oregon...Ecola State Park, Devil's Punchbowl, Thors Well, Multnomah Falls...the list goes on.
...what a really beautiful and impressive trip report (ok, maybe apart from that weird fried thing at the beginning 😉)
These rocks on the beach - are they the rocks from the movie The Goonies? 😮
I loved this video! As a Bend resident for 13 years, I recognized most of the footage in central Oregon. Oregon really is an amazing state. Glad that you got to show Laura some Oregon highlights!
They missed Downtown Portland/Oregon!
@@mauertal You mean the homeless camps.
@@robertmajka9 Yes and the closed stores, the variations of dirt.....
You live in the area my grandmother came from in Germany,
12:51 That is why winter tires are mandatory in EU in winter times
Yes, the problem was not the Jeep, it had summer-tyres on it ! Greetings from Austria.
More Art for the new year.

I live 10 minutes from Smith Rock State Park, and it's always the first place I take company. On a clear day the view up top of Misery Ridge is spectacular.
Beautiful landscapes and nature! 🌲🌲
I follow Morgan Long on RUclips.
She also lives in Portland, and as an avid reader like I am, she often visits Powell's.
Being a former bookseller, seeing this bookstore is always a treat. 🙂📚
Nice Story ! THANK YOU !
That’s all Tex Mex which is technically American food from Texas. Fajitas were created in Houston.
Love Cannon Bach! Maybe we will drive out to Bend next time we are visiting the Family in Portland - I want some OG Blockbuster merge!
Beautiful, many different landscapes.
I only needed that two second clip to know which road you were driving on in Mario Kart! 😂
Wow Oregon looks awesome
Oregon is one of our most beautiful states. The entire coastline is worth seeing, and Crater Lake is a must see...
The bike shop I worked at would close and we would ride up into Colorado. On the way back we rode to Mesa Verde National Park. There we met some German tourist who were equally fascinated to see all of us on BMW motorcycles.
Great video! These are the same reasons why I keep visiting the US. Btw, was 4H or 4L engaged when the Gladiator got stuck?
By the way, you two are really a cute couple. It was sweet to see all the reactions of your girlfriend, NALF, on all these US-American things...
Sounds like the rental company failed to put good mud and snow tires on the Gladiator. Bummer.
We love going to Bend, so thanks for the tip on a hike we now plan on taking. Glad you two had fun.
As a German I love Oregon since 55 years - loved Clam Chowder, riding through the 3 sisters with my Indian friends
You make a southern oregon coast native gal PROUD! Next visit, come down to the south coast and I'll direct you to some amazing hidden gem sites!!! Love your channel!!
Seaside. "Tourist" Oregon. ;) Lots of good memories. Especially if you bring your dogs. ;)
What an amazing nature !
There are four reasons why traveling, especially traveling around, was very attractive in the U.S. in the 1990s:
It was very cheap.
Rental cars were cheap.
Gasoline was very cheap.
And, - motels (e.g. Motel 6) were cheap, - and
they often had two king-size beds, which is very convenient for a family with two children, who thus only need one room.
Exactly what I thought about the Gladiator. In 4wd they are pretty capable.
Man, this is a big country. Grew up in Virginia, lived in Rhode island, N. Florida, S. California and Hawaii but have not visited the NW or all of the states in between. It's on my bucket list. For all the Europeans reading this no, I don't need a passport...
Andy should consider an acting career. He is awesome! 🎭 And with every movie having its own streaming service soon, DVD rentals could have a comeback
The problem was not the Jeep, it had just crap tyres i think. I am living at the Alps in Austria, we use summer and winter tyres.
He should know that, in Germany, Winter tyres are mandatory
Gibt also einige Parallelen.
Wow, Oregon looks like a place where I would love to live. Away from, but near to civilization.
Did you take her to an Oregon RC Dispensary? That would blow anyone's mind. You don't have to purchase anything, but you have to go inside for a see and smell.
