Floyd Mayweather used to do this A LOT
I didn't know why back then, but now I understand
Good stuff as always coach :)

I remember watching him throwing 8 straight punches on the heavybag. It took me a minute to understand, what exactly he's working on.

Floyd Mayweather style heavybag training. It's feels really good when you hit bag light and also it makes puches sharper.

Cadence is one of the most important elements in fighting. Cadence changes are what can, for example, make feints or fakes work well. Slow down just a little on the feint, or probe, then speed up your actual attack! If you get your opponent to (fall in to your cadence,) or mirror it, or move almost in time or at (the same speed) with you he will always be having to catch up to you. Then you can hit him when he is in (transition) or "motor set" as many say, before he is even able to complete his defensive movement. Also vary the cadence and essence of your footwork and upper body movement as well. One can also go from a fast cadence to a slower one, or really a brief pause or hesitation in your movement. He's reacting to your speed and faster cadence, and maybe a bit more aggressive essence? And then you suddenly pause or hesitate a bit during an attack/combination or movement. That can really throw someone off and give you an opening! Always work going from smooth medium type of flowing speed to fast cadence, staccato type change ups in to your movements, insert the pauses or hesitations as well occasionally! Great Video as always! Rhythm, Cadence, Tempo, Essence of movement.... Who knows all the differences? Also when training you can use cadence changes when responding to say a double end or (timing bag.) Or Cobra Reflex Bag? Instead of responding in time at it's cadence, see if you can move faster and get ahead of it. Put an extra slip or punch responding at a faster cadence than it's coming back at you.... Just something to play with.... ;-)

never realized how beautiful and scientific boxing really is I'm so glad my kung fu instructor INSISTED that u learn it.
EXCELLENT TEACHING I've tried this and it does work once you put your ego aside. There's a tendency to always want to slam power punches into the bag every time you're in front of it.

What I’ve noticed when I watch many pros on the bag is that they’re not often going for Power, similar to what you’re advising here they go for sharpness, rhythm and cadence. It’s a joy to hear and to watch, in my opinion and I will be trying out your workout ASAP.

Thanks for the affirmation, coach! I've been trying to do this on the heavy bag and double end bag now and a few guys have given me crap in the gym because I'm not working hard enough. These are the same guys who only care about power and gas out pretty quick on the mitts and "sparring". If I can float, avoid and block their big punches for the first minute of a round, I start to find lots of openings!

I actually do these quick shots and movement rounds without gloves, just bandages. I usually train with 16oz gloves but I'm a small guy and I feel they don't really allow me to train at anywhere close of my real speed, when I take them off and do a light quick round it's my brain that needs to catch up.
