It’s fine to confuse Shujinko. If I remember right, an ending for a character in a previous game had them attack him because they thought he was Shang Tsun. So it’s canon they’re pretty similar. Such is his curse.

They gave Motaro all like five of his original moves with a modern makeover. The teleport, the reflect, the kick, the projectile, and the grab and punch - all make cameos as assists now. I'm just stoked that he's back after a quarter century.

The reason there hasn't been a tournament in an MK game since 9 is that they essentially retold the main games storylines but rebooted in a different timeline. They did MK 1-3 in MK 9 and MK 4 in MKX. MK 11 was dedicated to setting up another reboot. MK 3 didn't have a tournament as it was about Shao Khan conquering Earth. Nor did 4 IIRC. So they were essentially constrained by a combination of the original lore plus their designs to reboot it again. You would have had more tournaments if they had spaced out the story and dedicated a single game to each original game in the new timeline but that isn't what they chose to do.

I can only repeat what so many have already stated. The fighting community is having such a good time right now. SF6, Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8. Also, look at these facial animations! I might not be into the gameplay of MK to be honest, but I still love to watch other play the game (especially Max) and the trailers in general.

Shao and Sindel look awesome, but I can’t get over how beautiful the stages look! I wasn’t a big fan of X’s and 11’s stages, so I’m very pleasantly surprised with what we’ve seen so far! I can’t wait.
Motaro is probably gonna be a top tier assist, his barrier alone would put him in top5 with how strong zoning is in NRS games, and then on top of that he has that triple proyectile assist too which also looks nuts. I'm hyped tho cause Motaro deserves to kick some ass even as an assist.

Seeing Motaro and Sindel made me happy the most especially since they’re both ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTERS OF MINE. I was squealing for joy whenever Sindel kicked Shao’s ass. Plus Shao is way more scarier than before and I was excited to reply, “YOU WILL TASTE YOUR OWN BLOOD!!!” whenever Shao said “You will taste no victory…”
The fact that the tournament is run by Sindel and is a peaceful competition instead of one about conquering the other realm is a perfect way to bring back the tournament! Whether it stays that way, like you said, we shall see.
MK9, MK11 and now MK1, 3 ages where the story has reverted back to MK1-3. Why is this such a mystery for you people? The M1K Story is based on MK3 and MK6 Deception storyplots. Here's what's going to happen - General Shao is sick of fighting Liu Kang's "Mortal Olympics", He gets beat up by Raiden and He absorbs Onaga's soul to kick out Liu Kang and Sindel. Most likely scenario is that the Dragon Soul is removed from him and he is killed. Less likely scenario is that he takes over Outworld and become its conqurer.
Yeah you realize Mortal Kombat didn't actually use the Mortal Kombat tournament much in their stories. MK 2 had the last tournament until MK 9, this game is the first time the tournament's been used since MK 9.
I love how this game has given so much more life and personality to literally EVERY CHARACTER. From Reptile's new story, to Baraka's new purpose to even Shao being like an Outworld version of a JROTC Military school graduate, lol, I love it.
I had the complete opposite reaction than what Max had. I saw Shujinko and said out loud "Shujinko!!", then I saw beard "Old Shang Tsung?", and then I saw him doing stuff "Oh, that is Shujinko."

Sindel was always canonically good, we just never saw her in a game where it was explored in depth story wise. Wish we had more of good guy Kabal since that whole character arc was dropped after MK9.
the masks wouldn't be much different from mk11's. Those were indeed next gen renditions, now they wouldn't be much of a jump in fidelity aside from simply different designs
Yo what if Kabal does come back but instead of being a black dragon like last timeline they leave them as a good guy and he's just like some super cop. Like he's really striker's partner but after an incident or "voluntary experimentation" he takes an acceleration injection/inhaler that really give some super speed. IDK just my guess on how they can bring him back but explain the super speed on a normal guy.
Sindel has gone through a few retcons, originally she was a good queen and loving mother who was forcibly wed to Shao Khan and committed suicide. The Sindel of the Original timeline that we fight is a resurrected and brainwashed version brought back by Shinnok and Shao Khan. Then it got retconned in 11 making her a badguy who helped Shao Khan take over Edenia and now I guess they flipped it back to her being a Good Queen again.
I really like how they're handling this reboot / alternate universe. Gotta hand it to the writers. I think my favorite change so far is Tarkatans being mutated people. I really hope they properly flesh Kitana and Mileena's relationship this time.
I don't even care that Motaro is strictly Kameo. I'm just glad to see him in his four-legged glory once more. He looks so good. My question is...Kintaro when? I want Kintaro to come back as playable.
With the amount of Deception homage I'd bet he's going to be the main villain in the next game. Probably a cliffhanger at the end of MK1 to hype us up for the return of the dragon king... + They made Shao be more dragon like which hints the theory that he's Onaga's son.
Shujinko would have never gotten strong if it wasnt for onaga so in the current timeline, he nobody special lol kameo characters dont count for story either

As I remember, in the MK3 Arcade-Version Motaro was teleporting around, and the triple fireballs were also a signature-move of him. I believe when you shot fireballs on him, it reflected, but without an animation. It just went back. It seems that they changed that and made it visual. So cool. Not only for being loyal to this character, but also that centaurs seem to be more part of the story and in MK-culture again.
I wouldn't say I'm more excited, but I do think it's a fun system and I didn't get why people complained about it early on. Basically, even once you pick a main (I'm currently split between Smoke, Kenshi, Reptile, and maybe Ashrah) you then get to decide between 20 or whatever different ways to play that main. On top of that, the kombat passes not only add new characters, they add new kameos, which means that each kombat pass actually adds new ways to play every single character that's already in the game. Gotta say I'm waiting for them to announce some more female kameos though. Off the top of my head isn't it like 3 females and 12 or so males for the kameos as of yet?

Because before we saw actual gameplay to us it seemed like a cheap version to add Tag Team without fully implementing tag team. Plus seen first early gameplay and it being that slow made it seem a lot less fun than it is now seeing as how they are ramping things up. I now think the Kameos are pretty cool and can't wait to use them

I am a fan of how NetherRealm does their character designs, I think everyone looks perfect in this game (except for Shao's horns and Tanya) like giving Edinians more of an Asian look is a nice idea.
Even Tanya's? Some say she looks ugly (not me though; aside from that usually chiseled jawline she looks okay. I don't doubt there is a girl who looks quite like her in real life)
I like Tanya’s new look. I weirdly thought MK4 was best until MK1 trailers dropped. I didn’t like her deception/Armageddon design, she just looked like a generic woman with straight bangs and glowy eyes. It’s cool to see her actually have a distinct look again.

To be fair Shang tsung's whole gimmick is also stealing others' abilities, tho he usually turns into them to do it.
I knew as soon as I saw his color scheme. Which then made me sad, cause I wanted him as a playable character.

The Kameo system is the best thing that ever happen to Mortal Kombat. Now we got the excuse to see all these kameos from prior games!
Sindel was always canonically good, we just never saw her in a game where it was explored in depth story wise. Wish we had more of good guy Kabal since that whole character arc was dropped after MK9.
Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath happened, man. Sindel was made a villain in that game's canon.

the masks wouldn't be much different from mk11's. Those were indeed next gen renditions, now they wouldn't be much of a jump in fidelity aside from simply different designs
Yo what if Kabal does come back but instead of being a black dragon like last timeline they leave them as a good guy and he's just like some super cop. Like he's really striker's partner but after an incident or "voluntary experimentation" he takes an acceleration injection/inhaler that really give some super speed. IDK just my guess on how they can bring him back but explain the super speed on a normal guy.

Sindel has gone through a few retcons, originally she was a good queen and loving mother who was forcibly wed to Shao Khan and committed suicide. The Sindel of the Original timeline that we fight is a resurrected and brainwashed version brought back by Shinnok and Shao Khan. Then it got retconned in 11 making her a badguy who helped Shao Khan take over Edenia and now I guess they flipped it back to her being a Good Queen again.

@thebadwolf3088 kameo characters are exactly as the name suggests, cameos lol, which is why they're in their original costumes. We're not going to see cameo sonya and jax in story mode, we'll see the modern versions

As I remember, in the MK3 Arcade-Version Motaro was teleporting around, and the triple fireballs were also a signature-move of him. I believe when you shot fireballs on him, it reflected, but without an animation. It just went back. It seems that they changed that and made it visual. So cool. Not only for being loyal to this character, but also that centaurs seem to be more part of the story and in MK-culture again.

I wouldn't say I'm more excited, but I do think it's a fun system and I didn't get why people complained about it early on. Basically, even once you pick a main (I'm currently split between Smoke, Kenshi, Reptile, and maybe Ashrah) you then get to decide between 20 or whatever different ways to play that main. On top of that, the kombat passes not only add new characters, they add new kameos, which means that each kombat pass actually adds new ways to play every single character that's already in the game.
Gotta say I'm waiting for them to announce some more female kameos though. Off the top of my head isn't it like 3 females and 12 or so males for the kameos as of yet?
@@KaleRylanI can tell you why people complain because I was one of them up until now. Because before we saw actual gameplay to us it seemed like a cheap version to add Tag Team without fully implementing tag team. Plus seen first early gameplay and it being that slow made it seem a lot less fun than it is now seeing as how they are ramping things up. I now think the Kameos are pretty cool and can't wait to use them

I am a fan of how NetherRealm does their character designs, I think everyone looks perfect in this game (except for Shao's horns and Tanya) like giving Edinians more of an Asian look is a nice idea.
Even Tanya's? Some say she looks ugly (not me though; aside from that usually chiseled jawline she looks okay. I don't doubt there is a girl who looks quite like her in real life)

I like Tanya’s new look. I weirdly thought MK4 was best until MK1 trailers dropped. I didn’t like her deception/Armageddon design, she just looked like a generic woman with straight bangs and glowy eyes. It’s cool to see her actually have a distinct look again.
Shaq Khan by himself was already iconic and a legendary villain for decades. Now he’s literally amped to beat the living shit out of you via kombat (obviously). The axe being utilized in different ways is sick!
