I like the analogy of an oven. You can put your hand in the oven for a second and not burn your hand too badly, but if you put your hand in that same oven for say 10 seconds, you're in big trouble. Same with EGT.
When i did my engine rebuild bought new cts3 2 egt probes for each cylinder bank.... Easy to tell if a sides got weak injectors. Its piece of mind knowing whats going on with the other half of your Engine.
I had an 02 7.3 power stroke, the first thing I did, was an egt probe for a baseline on temps. I was surprised to see 1375 bone stock pulling a trailer. Especially when the diesel community freaks out at temps of 1200.
Pretty good video. I have 35s on my truck with stage 2 cam, 190/75s, kc stage 3 and supporting mods. I run 850-1050 just cruising but with a trailer it can get out of control. Any trailers that weigh anything I really cannot use overdrive and have to keep her under 60. I watch the temp as well that’s how I drive it
Yea I agree. %!00 about the importance of needing egt gauge. I even have a probe and gauge in a box somewhere in my house but I got it mainly to help me with tuning Lol. Maybes its because I gotta put so much attention and stress i Gotte deal with while I'm at work. Flying turbine powered aircraft I can burn up an engine in a matter of few seconds if I but these big heavy iron diesels. Are also fragile to temps or nut tust the high but its also cooling off to fast between heat cycles and not property shutting down these. motors
Wow, and i get worried when I hit 1150-1200. I have an 05 5.9 and have front and back pyros. I have talked to so many people who don't have egt gauges and could care less.
@BlessedPerformance Sound good. Before my rebuild starts, I need a few more parts. This was a last minute add on to the list. I'll definitely be in touch. I also want to get your stage 2 cam from RCD with matching push rods. Thank you for all your informative videos. They keep me passionate about my build and always wanting to make it better. 👍👍
If I could get my truck to your shop with all my parts. And do a complete rebuild on your channel would be great. I'm here in San Antonio so that delivery charge maybe a little high
Great vid! You are really good at explaining the technical aspects, why they happen, and what to do about it. These videos yall putting out lately are loaded with good information. I have a question for you about my "non cali compliant" early build 04. I have a strange situation when loaded heavy and hauling up hill for a good ways. The truck does great, plenty of power, and I always keep my egts below 1300. When I see 1250, I get out if it. Sometimes, a good ways into a hard pull on a long steep hill, the truck will "derate" even with egts WELL below 1350... The vgt kills the turbo, and I loose all boost. Still seems to fuel quite a bit still however, with black smoke pouring from the tail pipe ehen this happens. Once I down shift, it "cools" quickly and the turbo comes back online like normal(vgt function returns) and everything is good till the next large hard climb. Maybe the vgt gets stuck at higher temps... Odd issue. I notice my oil temps climb to 230, never higher, with coolant temps around 215-220. Would you happen to have any suggestions or ideas to point me in a direction to resolve the issue, what to look for, or why it coulbe be happening? As I understand, 258 degree oil temp will defuel the truck, but I get no where near that. When i figure it out, I will repost here in the comment section with the resolve, parts used, and what I did to correct the situation. Appreciate yall taking the time to do these vids for us. I owe you some business surely. I have two other early builds that I am working on for freinds that need parts(hpops of course for both) and a slew of other stuff for one of em. Going to your website now to research and get some quotes out to get these pigs back on the road!
Whats acceptable during a pull? Im 205/30, KC stage 2 jet fire on almost 37s stock gearing. If i get on it and try to accelerate empty from say 30 to 90mph my egts go up from 700 to 1450 and i immediately let off. This is on a reduced fuel tune and id like to be able to stand on it for atleast a 50mph acceleration when im playing. I love hot rodding, but im nervous about melting something. Will say 3 seconds at 1500 hurt it?

Same concept yes sir.
Well said
Great video. I'm about to order new intake, intercooler setup and regulated fuel return. Yall put out awesome information.

This is the EXACT reason I made this video!

Learning how to drive your setup thats the whole point of this video

Great video. Very informative..
Quick question. On a 2006 powerstroke. What Hpop do you recommend when time to replace??
Thumper 2 gets our vote for a solid upgrade.
@BlessedPerformance Awesome thank you for the input.

Thank you!!! Give me a call Monday brother your truck isn't derating based on egt it's a different temp causing that
@@BlessedPerformance absolutely will do! Thanks for taking the time to respond! I'll holler at ya Monday! Have a GREAT weekend!

250 back out brother
Great video, terrible audio.
Thank you I will work on that brother my main camera got stolen so I intend to buy another Yeehaw
