Man this game was so cool, kind of wish Ubisoft went in this direction a bit more, expanded on the whole mercenary work, no real friendly faction just 2 factions duking it out with you in the middle.
agreed it really was cool, and i wish Ubisoft went in this direction too, they ditched the whole mercenary thing after 2, you still fight PMCs in FC3 but they're more "in uniform" and generic than being ragtag and standing out, unlike in FC2 where you got a Northern Irish guy in a adidas tracksuit and such, and i also liked the weapon degradation since you don't have access to clean shiny brand new guns but rather old relics from the cold war era
although i really liked jason brody and how ubisoft went for a whole "trouble in paradise" sorta thing, asking the question of what a normal dude would do in a life-or-death scenario, i wish that was just a 1 time thing for the series as the rest explored other concepts, more akin to far cry 2's mercenary stuff. i always liked games where i'm not exactly anybody special and either a generic soldier or a generic mercenary, but then again, half-life is my favorite shooter franchise of all time, so maybe it just depends on the setting
The ending with Massive Attack - Angel (FFM Remix) playing was EPIC! 20:34 *"But let's never forget: it's a display, it's a posture, like a Lion's roar or a Gorilla thumping at its chest. If you lose yourself in the display, if you succumb to the horror, then you become the monster. You become reduced; not more than a man, but less-and it can be fatal." - The Jackal*
One thing I've noticed is that enemies are actually scripted to know your general location whenever they are alerted by you in any way, no matter if you used silenced weapons or not, or in some cases, didn't even fire a single shot at all yet, if they can't see you directly they will start running into your direction until they spot you. Found this out pretty much by accident when I snuck up to an outpost, only to find it already burning and the enemies looking for me and running straight at me before I barely even got into view. Reloaded a few times to observe what's going on, turns out that camp has an unlit fire, which one of the guards can sometimes randomly light, causing a wildfire to hit the camp (most likely very much unintended) and since the devs probably didn't anticipate wildfires being caused by anything but the player/scripted events, it counts as an attack on the outpost by the player. So you could say the enemies are cheating a little bit, always knowing your general direction at the very least once they're alerted by you, but it does make for a lot more interesting and dangerous enemy AI than what any of the subsequent games have, especially with how broken stealth is.
u gotta try original dead space far cry 2 and original dead space 1 are one of the most immersive games i have ever played. easy S+ tier games of all time. try dead space that game came out in 2008 but trust me feels/controls/looks/plays better than most of the games that came out in 2012/13. solid recommendations. man i love these games deus ex human revolution was immersive as well.

Still my favourite Far Cry game. Had a blast playing it in early 2009 I wish modern games had this level of world interaction but it only downgraded as the years went. On highest difficulty it's kind of Dark Souls of casual fps genre. Also - the malaria thing, yeah it can be annoying. But I have some good sentiment for it - I've played this game just after being diagnosed with diabetes. Seeing that even a badass mercenary had to endure with a serious disease kind of helped 13 years old me to accept the fact I got ill. I was furious about my diagnosis back then but seriously calmed down after playing FC2 and focused on properly dealing with it. One of main reasons I love this game.
Is a shame you had to reupload but no matter what i will always watch and rewatch your videos man, the effort you put on them is amazing and i love every second of every new upload reuploads or not your videos are just pure gold.
I loved FC 2. It got soo much right. The only major peeve I had was the insta fill of cleared checkpoints when turning your bsck. And sometimes the long travels. But oh was it awesome.
@@Skrenja Thank you. I played it ..oooph, 2011 I think. No mods for it back then, but the video got me itching for a replay, and I will take your advice.
@@Medicalguy Yes. The setting, the soundscape were the real stars. And I liked the somewhat slow weapon progression. With the slight dissapointment that I could not use the best toys for very long. Each weapon really FELT different, too. The multiplayer was fun too. The smallish comunity was fair and the battlemaps ..... different in positive way.
That too was my major peeve. Subsequently the reason I end up taking some time to play something else. Having to travel as much as you do gets really old when the outposts respawn immediately and you're forced to stop because despite having the same vehicle as you, they can drive much faster and shoot your truck until it dies. That aside it's awesome, and it was the first game I ever played on Xbox 360 live back in the day!
Good thing you reuploaded this, I've never seen the first one. It's an awesome vid. I've never played at far cry 2, always had far cry instinct on my old xbox and I still play at Farcry 4 sometimes but now I feel like I'm missing the best part of the series. Awesome video!
I'll watch and comment again. I think this game is great for a lot of the reasons that most people hate it for. There's an atmosphere it has that I haven't really found in another game. You can literally go stand in the middle of the Savannah and listen to the wind blowing through the grass, watch the sun set and hear the creatures of the night come out as the stars pass overhead. Sometimes you want to experience a game's open world, but don't want to hear explosions and gunfire and revving motors and wisecracking refugees every ten seconds. I really liked the malaria and gun jamming as it would often throw a wrench in my plan and it was exciting to adapt to the situation as my perfectly-timed dart would stick in the barrel. Great stories aren't from when it all went right, it's when it all went wrong and you still won. It felt awesome to get to the point where you could infiltrate a location, complete the objective, and then get out without alerting the enemies, blowing up your IED from afar and watching the fire spread as the enemies frantically fired randomly into the dark, trying to flush you out, screaming "Fuck! It's him! Where is he?!" Note that while there is no stealth meter, the music itself provides an auditory clue as to enemy proximity and alertness level. I think that changing your character changes who your buddies are, as well as the roles of certain characters, but maybe it's random every time. If you're looking for a survival shooter that leans into realism and tactics, this is well worth looking at. It's not perfect, the second map is super shitty to navigate, and you have a constant sense of the game hating you in an Elden Ring-like way, but it's like nothing you've ever played. If you're new, you want to spend your diamonds on the small grenade launcher, ghillie suit, and the bolt-action sniper rifle, as well as their upgrades. The grenade launcher will quickly end any random patrol vehicle encounters, and the sniper rifle is an almost guaranteed one shot kill, you just need to relocate after you fire. Travel and attack by night, and on foot. Most areas have multiple avenues of approach. Oh, and stick an IED on your vehicle before you get in. It's great for mayhem - you can hop out while driving and blow it up as a weapon or distraction.
Agreed. I've beaten the game a lot, and my only real complaint is how stiffly terminator esque the AI will get, being able to easily hip fire your ass through layers of thick brush is never fun, haha. The game oddly is easiest either playing full on assault mode in their face or sniper, staying at a medium distance is what mostly gets me killed.
Who remembers the puzzle maps??? Probably the most fun I've ever had playing a video game. Custom maps were insane even on Xbox. The map editor was a lot at that time for something that came out on console. Even the team deathmatch modes were fun. Nothing has even come close to creating the atmosphere this game had.
Watched the original upload but rewatching this again since it's enjoyable and fills me with nostalgia since I played this when I was living abroad in South Africa. Plus it hopefully helps with watch time
I dont know whether its just rose tinted glasses but FC2 on console was nowhere near as messy as the PC version which for me was unplayable after reaching the bar for the first time. Other than the bugs and glitches, it still stands out as the most fun I've had in Far Cry. Such a shame how the the series carried on, much like Assassins Creed. They just became profit vessels instead of trying (emphais on trying) to make an interesting story or enjoyable gameplay.
I've always adored the physical map, such a shame no other game does it. And the malaria never bothered me. I did the medicine missions as they popped up and never came close to running out. It would flare up, I'd do a five second animation and that would be it for a while.
The entire video was awesome but I just need to point out how great the outro was. That could've been a legit game trailer back then and folks would say "Damn, videogame trailers aren't what they used to be. You remember the far cry 2 trailer? Those were the days." Wonderful game, fair and entertaining review. Thank you for it! I also completely agree that the Malaria mechanic didn't turn out well. Malaria as a story/mood device is nice, but having an attack is similar to, but much simpler than the jamming. And yeah, the missions to get more don't allow for much interesting gameplay. Personally I would have wished for the diamonds to be spread in less predictable amounts. The cases are a good motivator for exploration, but it would have been good if there had been larger amounts of diamonds in some of them. And a few more cease-fire zones to place them in. Mission rewards became a bit too extreme in comparison and because of that the game isn't encouraging the player all that well when it comes to looking for the suitcases. I don't think that I like the second map any less. The environment is still as unique and detailed as in the North and the new fixed guns aren't a problem most of the time. But on Infamous pretty much anything that isn't Stealth or Sniping has a chance of killing you pretty quickly.
