That is one Jaw Dropping, vintage KX. Crazy, that it's that powerful, that Billy felt the need to warn you about it, when you ride CR 500's daily, without any effort, as if you're playing with them. Lol
Whoa!!! That KX Has some Raw Power! Thanks Kaplan for sharing this Kawasaki Treasure! Just Amazing! And I could tell You had Fun Riding it ( I Don't blame you).
Taking me back to my 1979 RM100 days. Best of times, and I saw Y&T last night so it’s definitely old school weekend for me! Love the Bike Sr, thanks for the vid.
I've got my 79" green machine sitting in my garage. An absolute blast to ride. I ripped out the aftermarket ignition system that came with it when I bought it a few years ago and replaced it with original Kawasaki parts. Very expensive but worth it. Stuck a brand-new carb on as well and it makes this thing rip. And you are correct, the 79' KX250 production run was way less than the CR's, RM's and YZ's of the same year.
If only I could find some of those green fork sliders and covers. Picked my 79’ KX250A-5 in 2018. They are rare, production numbers were a fraction of the other Japanese bikes.
My cousin had the exact same bike and I had at the time 76 cr250r. He had a house with a couple acres of land we made a sick track nothing like walking out side and riding for hours. Great times
I was one of the few very lucky people to own this very bike, if you raced this bike and weren't bringing trophies home every weekend than you should have hung it up, I raced this bike in 250 and open, won all the time, in both classes, I think this is the best bike ever built, I know it could run with anything built today, if I could get my hands on this bike.
A like-new Kawasaki 250 from the end of that gloriously huge decade of motocross here in the States makes me mighty green with envy. Cheers to whomever gets to put that in the garage. Or living room. 😀
@@PerryPariah Definitely dirt and hopefully with some regularity. Not a fan of owners filling up their den with dirt bikes, or any kind of bikes, and never letting them see the light of day. Ride 'em, share 'em, live large with 'em. 😀
I want to be respectful as surely there are some owners whose bodies don't permit them to ride anymore, just that they really want a specific motorcycle to own and cherish. Or maybe owning does mean never riding because they're so happy to have it and want it to retain high value for their children or such. Yet, certainly, life is short and too short not to ride the dirt bike or street bike of your dreams at a fun speed or share it with friends and family. And I like how these vintage drag races are being held, just runs down the quarter-mile as a big social gathering, no winners or losers, just a day of speed and fun and memories and run-whatcha-brung. And off-road bicycle riders are doing the same with gravel events/races, a hundred miles or so on farm roads and single-tracks and all sorts of off-road terrain, with some riders contending for prizes but most showing up for the challenge and community. And I've mentioned it before, yet it remains mind-blowing to me that Ken and his crew are sourcing these cool old motorcycles and making each worthy of a magazine cover and then letting us purchase them a half-century after they were originally on the showroom floor. 😀
The first bike i through a leg over in my apprenticeship. Bob Burgess mods to chamber 1.65 mm raised exhaust port cant remember the jet size we went to. Rear brake liner in the hub which was pinned in a weird way used to let go machined the Magnesium out and put a steel insert locked in with6 m6 screws. rear shocks were solid a bit more preload on the springs with a 45 mm preload spring out of a Macio (company I worked for imported Macio back in the day when know wanted to know about them fucking rocket ships) from memory. Front forks same more spring preload remember that one Z1000 outer valve spring and a machined collar to tie them together. good with 2 teeth down on rear for about 170KMH at a desert race
You make me wonder if chassis and suspension technology have outpaced engine technology. Are the new bikes that much more powerful than these classics?
I had that bike I did incredible things with that bike that was a wonderful bike 1979 Quickly outdated though with all the pro link Single shock style suspension But I won a lot of races on that bike Wish I would have never sold it 4 600 bucks I only paid 2 grand For it brand new I wonder what it Be worth today
Wow! Gorgeous Time Machine.
My first MX bike.
I went from back of the pack on my 76 KT 250 to front on my new 79 KX 250.
I owned a 79 KX250, sadly sold before going into Army. Bought it new and this video brings back memories!!

I believe this is the year 79 that Kawasaki sent the marvelous KX back to our shores. Love them

The 79 KX80A was my first 2 stroke at 10 years old and the KX250 85 was my first 250....good times....broke my leg on the 250

My older brother had one of those, traded it for a lawnmower back in the early 90s

Beauty, whats rattling when you rev it.
They were just powerhouses. . I had ridden one in 88 and it snapped up very fast. Looping it was easy. Like you say ken sr it’s a dime piece.
My father in law has one and I get to race it in a month can’t wait
Wow what a beautiful bike when I was a kid I had a 1979 KX80 it’s the same bike only a 250 I want it

@@robbchastain3036 I totally agree, no better way to appreciate and enjoy a piece of history than to fire it up and let it breathe!!

Wow! It's beautiful!
It'd be like Meatloaf singing, "Cuz there ain't no minty Kawasaki hiding at the bottom of Cracker Jack box." 😀
What ratio of Klotz does it take
Beautiful great running machine Ken
The production numbers were 1,250 units each , of the 125 cc and 1,250 units of 250cc
is that exhaust ment to be that large
Before the uni trak disaster rear suspension.
These were excellent.
sounds nicer than the 78 honda 250
The distance between the front sprocket and the swingarm pivot is sub-optimal.....
That bike talks to me. Just hearing it is like entering a time machine. Bought a new one still in the crate in 1981 for 1600 bucks.
Love that bike 🏍
Awesome bike!!!!
Front plate to crossbar/cable routing and guide need attention, just looks a little misaligned to me.
4sale?
How much??
I'm pretty sure I have an original service manual for the Kx250A1 model
Sir I've visited museum in Feb 2023, but I haven't seen you anywhere
I was at bike week
