- With core web vitals around the corner, it's important to understand the changes in Autoptimize and their impacts on your performance. The most important thing to remember is, to disable lazy loading for the first few images on your site. This should always at least be 2 (one for your logo and one for the featured image) but remember to count to exclude all the above-the-fold images to avoid issues with CLS and improve LCP.

The most important change for autoptimize in 2021 might be to revisit your background data URIs feature (run multiple tests with it on or off to see the potential impact, and if you're using the lazy load feature in Autoptimize make sure to disable it for the first few images (2-5). This is because loading above the fold images with lazy load will increase your LCP as the images are now dependent on the JavaScript for them being downloaded. This can severely impact the mobile performance where not only is the 3g connection speed a bottleneck but the slow performance of the device's CPU will also be a bottleneck particularly for sites with large amounts of JavaScript. I've tried the Autooptimize plugin on an ecommerce store with Flatsome Theme. But cache size went crazy and it double the storage on my server from 2GB to 4GB. Do you think it is the Also aggregate inline CSS functions that's causing this?
Could find the solution, so had to delete it and find a rather bad Optimization plugin

If your using WP Rocket would you recommend using Autoptimizes in conjunction (which I currently do)? From my understanding, Autoptimize is better with optimizations.

Your tutorials are awesome, Scott! If for some reason you cannot get WP Rocket and you've only free options to choose from then would you choose Autoptimize over other optimization plugins like W3 total cache or WP-optimize?

I do, though I think that many of them are going to be so focused on improving the score that it will impact user experience in a negative way since the drive for performance plugins will be to make the score higher at all costs. There are certain third-party service that do this and absolutely wreck a lot of sites i work on lol

If you're using wprocket you dont need autoptimize but I will be making a new video for wprocket!
@@SERTMedia Sounds great. WP rocket did improve the speed performance, but meanwhile it also broke my site. So I had to switch off minify CSS and java script and some features, turned out the speed is back to it used to be without WP rocket...

it lowered my mobile score from 49 to 24, but raised desktop from 85 to 95 -_-
after a little bit it went up to 60/98, though... not using a CDN, yet. But my image sizes are pretty decent.
