I've been following the witchita auto ecosystem for a while now, even though I don't live anywhere near it. I love how all of you guys work together and grow together. You're doing better than you were a year ago, I can tell. Proud of you bud.
Thanks for being so honest and up front - I have an adult son with these issues and I have watched him struggle for years, however. he is really brilliant. You appear very brillant and keep up your journey and always be yourself and love who you are.
Your more normal then you think dude! many of us have similar issues and we have to each learn our own coping skills. My worst is when i ignore my health issues and get myself in such bad shape i end up in the hospital in critical condition. Keep moving forward at your own pace , your very comfortable in front of the camera so i see that just doing that is helping you. I have sensory issues and food texture issues even.
Right there with you brother. I love the way you do your vids. Something essential and entertaining comes through and it's a gift. Thanks for what you do!!
Jake, thanks for bringing asd up and speaking about it so well. My daughter was diagnosed with autism this past year. She’ll be 9 soon and through therapy already has done so well. Hardest worker I know. Keep up the great work you’re doing and don’t let it slow you down.
I apparantly had experienced some mental health problems. In the end of November I was put into psychiatry hospital because I was believed to have the sympthoms of bipolar disease. I left the hospital the day before Christmas Eve. I was pretty bad at myself for loosing a month of life. But I survived and I need to adapt in the new situation. This year was pretty stress full for me. I've completed a year of studying and bought a car. But I also struggled from anxiety. I hope my life is going to be better soon.
We, from Canada, brought up 2 high functioning boys on the Spectrum - but different of course. My wife and I actually put our marriage on hold while we navigated this journey that started 20 years ago. Being Francophones (French) with good grasp on English, we had to do the research and create the programs to help the boys navigate their very own situations. I think we did an amazing job as they are working and do socialize, to a degree, but they are aware. The only aggravating issue we encountered is in our Health System, at 18 (deemed an adult) you are cured and require re-evaluation at very high cost. What you eat also could have an impact re: sensitivity to certain foods that contain dairy, wheat, soy and some vegetables and fruits can also play a role. It’s been amazing discovery and thank you Jake for sharing. For food curiosity, Alcat testing can help.
Thank you for the fleet update and the house seems to be coming along very well. As my father use to say ' The joys of homeownership". I really enjoy your videos. I love the ones with Tyler in them. You two make an excellent duo. The roadtrip with the BMW I3 from Boston to Kansas was one of my favorites. Please take care of yourself and keep up the great content.
Now I understand why you’re one of my favorite content creators. I’m so impressed with your eloquent explanations and examples that I sent the video to all (10) of my siblings and my 2 adult children. The fist line in “The Road Less Traveled” is “Life is difficult.” For those of us with “neuro-divergent” lives, that is an unrelenting understatement. Frankly, “simple” daily life is exhausting. But what else can you do? Diagnosis is a great first step to better clarity of what the hells wrong with me! Vyvanse in the morning, Ritalin in the afternoon, and magnesium in the evening works for me. Thanks. Good luck. And keep moving forward. I always enjoy the next 100% JAKE video when it hits!
Thanks for sharing your story. I'm hoping you find some things that help. It was SUPER useful to learn all the overlap you talk about at the end of the video. My partner has a daughter on the spectrum and this video has helped me understand at a deeper level. Keep up the great content my friend!
Thanks for sharing. I love your channel probably more then JR, Hoovie's and all the other's of the Whichita click. I'm glad you bought some newer cars because the older cars are always breaking down and it's difficult for you to work on them.
Jake, kudos on laying it all out for your viewers, it takes strength to do that. My son is very much like you, with a few extra side items. Oh and i concur with the diagnosis based on the condition of your garage alone. Much love and respect
Jake, I LOVE that you spoke out about your issues in a way that explains clearly that "anxiety" and "executive dysfunction" are not just the things that other people experience normally. When you said you have "autism" I was expecting clickbait and for you to talk about a disorder about buying too many autos. Because the way you come across on videos is way more functional than people I know.
Do your best life Jake - I'm old but if you make the people around you happy and try your best to make yourself happy - try to do the least harm you can - ride motorcycles as much as you can - feel lucky and you will probably be OK !!!
I’ve watched your channel for years, along with some of the other Wichita RUclips stars! I really never looked in the background and noticed your house but now seeing the renovations I’m excited to see how everything comes out. I did catch your statement about a fear of heights. I have such a horrible fear of heights that I can’t even stand up in the back of a pickup truck! I thought I was the only person with the fear of heights to such an extent that I have and I’m certainly not saying you do. Thank you for sharing and Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Jake, you may have changed my life with this video. I have virtually every symptom that you have, and my son once mentioned to me that I might have ADHD. Vitually everything you said on the topic resonated with me. Thank you.
I have more or less the same symptoms. I do feel like a disabled person. lost my job, my will to work and even the will for life. I am gettimg professional attention but still havent found a way out, just as you. I just want to function correctly.
Many of the great leaders of the world are on the Spectrum. It's how you harness it. Everything the doctors discover isn't necessarily having a negative impact, nor ever did- it's subtle. House looks great! Hello growth!
This is XP-Tints! Brother I would never have known! We had great conversations and love our interactions! Always checking in and supporting your channel. Happy New Years!
One thing to remember about your house is it's yours. Most the the people talking crap about it rent. We bought her first house this year and it's just so much better. I can do whatever I want and just fix stuff.
I would have never guessed you experienced some of the autism symptoms you mentioned, you always seem so well spoken and smart in your videos. I wish you the best, and think it’s great how much you shared. I bet it helps others.
Seems to me it was a good balance of info and personal experience. I have a young adult son who is on the spectrum and is also a wonderful artist. You just have to find what is right for you. Can you also do some house rehab stuff? I like both JRs and Hoovies, even if it isn't a manison. It's real life and we can all relate.
Hey, been catching your uploads for a few years. I'm ND and also suspected long ago you were also ND. The doctors Med's route nearly ended me(be careful with the meds if you ever change your mind) CBT and some social communities have been the best way I've got my head around things so far (hope people don't take your comments around 36mins the wrong way as I totally get you re some communities I've experienced.) For me, everyday is a new learning day! I'll keep turning up for your uploads whenever you post, as I enjoy your work. Best wishes from the UK!
I was diagnosed this year with AuDHD also, so I'm dealing with similar right now. The executive function thing I think most people without the issue wouldn't understand. That's probably the thing that affects me the most about this. The sort of good part about this is that a lot of things about my past that never made sense, suddenly make sense. It's a good thing, but at the same time it's hard to deal with and start to accept. Over the past year, I've slowly come to some realizations about past relationships and experiences. The way I've viewed those experiences I'm realizing were not at all what I thought. It's enabled me to see a little more through other peoples' eyes. Overall, I'd say that knowing the "truth" has been more good than bad. While I understand "the way I am" and it's a VERY real thing, I also sort of think it's all BS, and just all part of what makes people different and part of the human experience. But, if we want to label things, that's fine too, if it's helpful. Hang in there. It will be fine. A better understanding can't be a bad thing if properly applied.
By the way, I was first "diagnosed" (I hate that word in this context) over 20 years ago, and I ignored it. Got angry, said they were wrong, before I understood what it was. It came up more recently, thanks to a good medical professional listening to my challenges and taking action. This time, I realize they were right. I wonder what could have been if I had listened back then.
To my eye, you’re doing better than ever, since you started you channel. Ya, I’ve been following that long. I’m glad for your successes, and keep on keeping on.
Hello From France 🇫🇷. Oh boy, understand so many things. I'm (professionnal) diagnose bipolar with *extreme* anxiety and sometimes psychotic crisis. And Aspeger. I'm 57 and life was a wreck. Now it's so much better because of my wife. You are one of the character in the "Witchita's YT family" Who always make sense for me. Intelligent and funny. Now I know why. Thank you for your honest vlog. Please continue like that. You're good.
Jake thank you for spending time talking about your autism diagnosis, what you mentioned on your autism summary is pretty much the same things we have heard or learn from multiple specialists or sources for the last five years. My daughter is autistic and at an early age she was not verbal and us parents don't have a clue where to begin with. After an early diagnosis and some therapy she is much better. Challenges remain with transitions and procrastination. All I can hope for is that she finds a job where she is good at and to be honest you are an inspiration. Personally I believe all autistic individuals have an extraordinary skill or a special perspective that we could admire and benefit from.
Feel it along with you. Late life dx of ADHD as in my late 50's and potentially high functioning aspbergers here. So late in life that behavioral therapy wouldn't do much for quality of life. Despite that I've been mostly successful in life. Hyperfocus is addictive. My partner is amazing and puts up with a lot to get the good stuff. Knowledge is more than half of the battle.
I have more than one female acquaintance who learned that the reason their longstanding issues with depression and anxiety never responded to traditional treatments were because they were actually on the autism spectrum and their symptoms were basically a constant low-grade freakout from the strain of constantly masking. Also, for more fun historical context, look up old descriptions of "changeling" children where parents would find their child replaced by a duplicate who exhibited wisdom beyond their years and would engage in unusual behaviors like lining up objects or engaging in behaviors that would nowadays be understood as stimming.
Yeah one of the big reasons for seeking an autism diagnosis specifically is the way it interacts with other conditions like ADHD, depression, and anxiety, and the efficacy of various medications and coping mechanisms. Far more than just a label.
Good for you! I know it wasn't easy to come to the decision to share something as personal as this. It's what normalizes this type of help. I struggle with my own issues, some similar to yours some different. Godspeed.
First, I love the detailed update on the fleet! Welcome to the "club" . I've been diagnosed with very similar stuff. It really helps once you put a name to a diagnosis, and start to learn how to reduce some of your "things" we do , now that you're more conscious of them. TLDR: I did TV production stuff for 12 years, switched to TV software technical support and HATED it, and did not do well. Now I'm back into a TV station ( part-time), and excelling. SO much more happier there. Keep up the great stuff you do and great content...Oh and trains got nothing on planes man!
You probably know this but in case you don't, ball joints will break again really quick if you tighten them while the vehicle wheels are off the ground, you need to put the weight of the vehicle on them before you tighten them
Good on you, Jake! From the first time I saw you do a spot at the Car Wizard’s, I subscribed and followed your antics the whole way! You speak so eloquently! Your house should look great when done! Now if only I could fix my CRS!
idk how old you are jake but i went to public school my whole life and im 39 now. i was in school from 1989-2003 and the teachers didn't give AF about us back then. I have ADHD, autism, and dyslexia and never got any extra help. I didn't realize this till I was an adult. I just gave up in school and screwed off since i'd get bored and no one cared anyway. I had a 3.8 in college but I didn't care cuz no one cared to help me. its really sad how ppl just fall through the cracks like I did. but I just did the best with what I had and could. hope all is well!
I can definitely relate. My ADHD and anxiety is so bad. Since around 7 years old I've been in basically fight or flight mode since. It is exhausting! I have to be medicated just to function. I've tried so many medications, and I always get side effects. Or my favorite answer is " Wow, I've never seen this happen before." Yeah, that's what you want to hear from multiple doctors. Anyway, sorry for rambling. Just know you're not alone. Keep up the great work and stay positive.
You will get through it.. glad you went and got tested.. i have add/adhd and im always all over the place….and i love the longer videos from beginning to end lile going and buying a car and driving it back and fixing on the fly. We are all weird in our own ways you just keep going
I thoroughly enjoyed the update on your fleet and the renovations to your house. I hope your girlfriend is understanding as you make your way through all that construction. I listened closely as you courageously shared your personal story. Your intelligence and insight are abundantly clear. I would point out that without a therapist, you found a career that fits you, and you have cultivated numerous relationships. That is not to downplay the challenges you presented. Some things such as your hands and neck may never have a solution. Just be wary of medications, for each has a side effect. Embrace what makes you unique. Learn about yourself with the help of your therapist. Most of all, enjoy life.
Thank you so much for sharing, without becoming an activist, please keep sharing your journey and thus feeding us with the building blocks of understanding (both ourselves and others).
Thanks for sharing man. as someoen diagnosed very late with ADD: CBT and other methods may not work as well on us as it does a child. dont fight the medication route if you dont have to. I decided to do it and i realized how much i was holding myself back previously. We need to gwt past medication stigmas as much as mental health ones.
I am 50 live in UK, diagnosed autism and ADHD as adult and it ripped me apart for a few months. My parents still don’t acknowledge it, mention it and I get silence and it’s hard. Everyone else accepted it, understood and most said they already knew. Diagnosing was difficult but now I know the answers to all the why questions, if only people listened to me as a child in the 70’s & 80’s I might have turned out better. I too have a lot of sensory issues, fabrics I cannot touch, Nivea men hand creams everywhere! Which can draw weird looks to those who don’t know me
Good job on the video. Not a regular viewer of yours, but I do watch most of Tyler's content so I know who you are. I'm 48(almost). Diagnosed about 5 years ago now? Been super helpful to at least understand why I am the way I am... SUPER helpful to try to find coping strategies rather that trying to "fix" my problems. I'm glad you're bringing attention to it, destigmatizing it. We need more people who are able to talk about it and explain it. Atypical on netflix is really well done, if you haven't watched it. Just a sitcom.
I think Austism is way more common than people think I have it too I don't know why it's so common in our age group but it definitely is and generally you get it from one parent or the other
Bravo on being open and honest about your mental health and treatment choices. Normalizing will make it more likely that others will also seek help.

Love this video! I got my diagnose 10 years ago. ADHD and Tourettes (and probably undiagnosed OCD). There's a lot of positives with ADHD, but Tourettes just suck. but these past 10 years has been transformative for my daily life, and the medication is a big thing towards that.
I'm 68 years old and only recently discovered I'm "on the autistic spectrum". Going to public school and social situations were a HUGE struggle for me, but I learned to compensate and did graduate from high school and got married (had 5 kids). I am a retired self taught computer programmer and am good at troubleshooting almost any kind of machine. I think I have ADD, which is probably at the root of the problems I had. Fortunately I am not hyperactive at all. I learned to compensate to get through school but couldn't handle college at all. I went to a "tech school" instead and did well there. The irony is that my father had a PHD in physics! In the end I think it is good to encourage people with autism to compensate, which I think you are doing. You may disagree with this, but you were probably better off being home schooled. Public school was like torture for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have many of the same symptoms, and have been self diagnosed with Autism for a few years now. I was originally diagnosed with ADD without hyper activity as a child, before ASD was a thing. But I believe I have both AUDD.
I really enjoyed this video and I appreciate you sharing so much about yourself as I know I have my own issues but my insurance doesn't cover any cost and I've been trying to self diagnose.
You're not alone, buddy. I'm in my early 60s. I had a lot of issues growing up in the 70s (which I call "The Dark Ages Of The 20th Century". That era sucked big time. The clothes sucked, the music sucked and the cars REALLY sucked LOL!). Wish we had the awareness and resources to figure out why my brain was effed up back then. But I did get things sorted out when I was in my late 30s. Thank god for therapy and drugs. Saved my life. On a side note, I love your show. Along with JR, Car Wizard, Hoovie, etc. You guys are very cool to watch. Hang in there, Jake ;)
Thank you for speaking up about your flavours of neurospiciess, a term I prefer to neurodivergent. So much of what you talk about I can identify with. I have ADHD (mainly inattentive) that was diagnosed when I was a kid in the early 1970s, then called Hyperactive (Thank you Thomas Dolby!), along with high intelligence and re-confirmed a little over a decade ago, along with Depression, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia. I wasn't tested for Autism Spectrum, but friends dealing with it and professional educators I know are pretty sure about my placement there, too. I was able to take the IT route as a career, self-taught, of course, and have worked on computers most of my life. It is only since the Plague (Covid, not the character) that I have developed an interest in automotive mechanics, and picked up on a bunch of channels like yours, and #Vanlife+camping stuff which appeals to me as route to reduce general life overload at times.
Interesting you mentioned all of these personality traits with autism. I think I may be in the same boat myself as I can definitely relate to a lot of these things.
Thanks for talking about this. I'm familiar with a lot of those symptoms but by chance I had an abdominal cat scan done recently and found I had an enlarged adrenal gland on one side. It creates a host of problems over a long period of time and no one ever looked. Or though of suggesting that test.
Good for you finding out yourself! I find your content genuine and really good. You seem to have good friends. I can absolutely understand the struggle due to the normative community when you're not a "normie". Strattera and meds like that may help you with ADHD-things, but as far as I know autism isn't anything you can medicate. Although I find you as a wise guy trusting in science, so I guess you already know. I wish you all the best, wherever that lands you. You are a good role model!
Keep doing what you do Jake cus your good at it brother. Merry Christmas happy New Year and keep on punching Jake. From John in Gloucestershire England 👍
Really interesting chat about autism, thanks for that. Some things to think about there because I've seen a lot about behavioral effects, but the bits about sensory issues which I really resonated with. I definitely identify with traits, but I don't think enough to pursue a diagnosis... Just enough to help me understand myself and my responses to things.
Yeah traits can exist without the full diagnosis but even the realization that something like sensory issues are "a thing" can help to seek out and find methods both medicinal and non-medicinal to better live with them.
Very informative on multiple fronts. Obviously the house as seen in a few videos here and there has been something I noticed and was happy to see (I immediately thought "Hooray, for Hoovie money!") Always nice to have a fleet update when things shift. And of course, Autism has had an uptick in interest since another well known youtuber's video so it's on people's minds. There's always an urge to go "I totally saw it!" or to self diagnose just a little too easily. I know of two people with it and they're a like in some ways and totally different in others so saying it's easy to tell from the outside isn't an easy thing unless maybe you're already confirmed to have it and can compare yourself to what you've seen in others. I worried about my own situation for years, until I decided it doesn't matter much since most people are pretty "atypical" these days, to the point you'd probably end up "high function" just in trying to "keep up" or not worry people.
Your house is looking better. With Tyler Hoover and John Ross in your life, you have access to things that can help you with anything you ever need help with. Never imagined you were autistic. You have done well in your life in spite of issues you have faced. God bless Jake.
I've been following the witchita auto ecosystem for a while now, even though I don't live anywhere near it. I love how all of you guys work together and grow together. You're doing better than you were a year ago, I can tell. Proud of you bud.
For those of us who have dealt with this for years I appreciate you mentioning not using it as a crutch. Good on you.
Great video. Thank you
Thanks for being so honest and up front - I have an adult son with these issues and I have watched him struggle for years, however. he is really brilliant. You appear very brillant and keep up your journey and always be yourself and love who you are.
Love the channel Jake. Especially for your intelligence which is so apparent in your delivery.

Your intro vid, with the service light is my favorite of any youtuber I follow!
Right there with you brother. I love the way you do your vids. Something essential and entertaining comes through and it's a gift. Thanks for what you do!!
Your health update was very eye-opening. I had no idea how much the condition encompassed. Thanks for sharing
House is looking awesome. Great job getting past project paralysis and consolidating down to what makes you happy.

Yep… love the more complete videos. Keep up the good work!
Jake, I LOVE that you spoke out about your issues in a way that explains clearly that "anxiety" and "executive dysfunction" are not just the things that other people experience normally. Old houses are usually missing outdoor electrical outlets and only have one outdoor water faucet. Now may be a good time to add more.

Happy new year man! Still thrilled with your work as ever!
I have a friend in Massachusetts that does sewer lining. It is an amazing option!
Welcome to the club. I was in public school my entire life but was only diagnosed 3 years ago.

Enjoyed the video and glad to see you're doing well with the cars, house and working on your health as well. Keep it up!!
Thank you for sharing!
To my eye, you’re doing better than ever, since you started you channel. Ya, I’ve been following that long. I’m glad for your successes, and keep on keeping on.
Great video, thanks for sharing. 😀
Very nicely done . I must have been quite the journey making it .
that was fantastic! especially the end part is fascinating, so much that can be applied to my own life. thanks for that! and best wishes to you!
Jake, I have always loved you and your channel. I think I you are amazing to share your story.
House projects are always fun!
ADD/ADHD, Dyslexic and Anxiety here. Sometimes they are gifts and other times barriers. You’re doing great.
The algo hit on the Miata swap, that is when I started watching
Thanks Jake. ❤
Do your thing, man. Take care of yourself within your means.
Hey ! Thanks for all the great content !
Your a good guy Jake
I am 50 live in UK, diagnosed autism and ADHD as adult and it ripped me apart for a few months. My parents still don’t acknowledge it, mention it and I get silence and it’s hard. Everyone else accepted it, understood and most said they already knew. Diagnosing was difficult but now I know the answers to all the why questions, if only people listened to me as a child in the 70’s & 80’s I might have turned out better.
I too have a lot of sensory issues, fabrics I cannot touch, Nivea men hand creams everywhere! Which can draw weird looks to those who don’t know me
Mad respect for you stating your issues makes me think about this a lot more ! All the best and the house looks good ! Happy new year !
You need JR to help on the house!
Yeahh
I too am on the spectrum
We autism-enjoyers make the best videographers. So this all checks out.
Pretty mild winter there in Wichita
Thank you
Great update
And video…😀
thanks for the honest and frank explanation of your personal issues. i feel i have a better understanding of this neurodivergence now.
I am also late diagnosed Autistic this year at age 44. Welcome 😊
Mic Hoovie the same way you mic yourself his audio sucks yours is great. Enjoyed your video.
Good on you. Glad the scream is gone, self awareness is them most important accomplishment in life
Nice video.
Your house is looking better. With Tyler Hoover and John Ross in your life, you have access to things that can help you with anything you ever need help with. Never imagined you were autistic. You have done well in your life in spite of issues you have faced. God bless Jake.
You have shown courage and given hope. May God's face shine upon you! Congrats on improving your lot!
