Thank you for the excellent video on proper go around technique. I would be very interested in a video explaining how to do a full divert. I know you can add the expected divert airfield in the FMCU. But I haven't found yet where you can add a divert route. Maybe that's going to be an update from Fslabs. Or maybe it's not included in the software version Fslabs modelled. But it would be nice to know how to handle that. Maybe from missed approach to holding. Then divert to alternate airport. Thank you for all the excellent videos so far! Andy
Hi Backbox711, awesome, brilliant, all your videos!. Couple of questions though, as I’ve been unable to find out through FCOM, FCTM, google etc… When retracting flaps one step, if you are in flaps full you don’t even have F speed so you don’t have to worry about speed at all? And in flaps 3? Should you have to check to be above F speed or its ok to command flaps 2 even below F speed? And what about a rejected landing or a touch and go? How do you stablish the rotate speed? Simply the Fapp or related to? Actually you could add if you like a ‘rejected landing/touch and go’ video to your to do list… would be very clarifying for sure. Thank you very much! And congrats for a very well done videos.
Hi. Thank you for your kind words. The whole Flaps concept is pretty simple in the A320. During Approach you can fly below F-Speed if Flaps are 3 or Full. During Flap retraction in case of a Go-Around you can select one step up straight away as long as you are above VLS. So if in Flaps Full you select Flaps 3, if in Flaps 3 Configuration you select Flaps 2. As long as you are above the F-Speed, you can select Flaps 1. So if you are at Config 3 and above F-Speed, you select Flaps 1. The same applies of course for Flaps 2. So to answer your question, yes in case of a Go-Around you can select Flaps 2 even below F-Speed. However you only select flaps 1 when above F-Speed.
Regarding Rejected Landing you have the normal Go-Around Procedure. The touch and go however is a training procedure where you select flaps 1 and retract the spoilers. Once in Flaps 1 Config you should be above 150 kts in order to lift of again. Do not go above 195 kts however! That is the maximum speed on ground for the tires. I have put your request for a video regarding ‘rejected landing/touch and go’ on my list. Regards
Wow! pretty istructive and interesting, as usual. What's happens after a go-around on the MCDU side? How do you reprogram a second landing attempt? How to step back from "GO-AROUND" phase into a new "APPROACH MODE"?
Thanks for the reply! I have an alternate airport distant several hundred miles, so i managed to follow the diversion route form the intended destination to the alternate (SID RTE STAR), but the perf page remains struck on "go around" (only activate new apprch is possible) so the managed speed is below 200kts. Even if i set the alternate cruise FL, the climb profile seems to be missing and i have no TOC and no TOD. In other words, just lateral guidance to the alternate airport is available. I'm missing something?
My FGMC is programmed correctly but it doesn't auto-sequence the Go Around phase when I go TOGA @ 200' AGL. It stays in "LAND" mode. What could be preventing it from triggering the go around phase?
Did you put the thrust levers into the TOGA notch? I.e. are the thrust levers correctly tuned? Otherwise I don’t see why it would not leave the approach mode and go to Go-Around mode.
Hi, awesome video as always, I was surprised that when you selected TOGA for the go around you had no FMA indication, I guess this is because the AT was off? I find that strange as I would have expected to see MAN TOGA if the TL were in the TOGA gate. I am really enjoying all your videos, and have to say they are the best I have seen for this great A/C. Keep up the good work.
Hello Neil. Thank you very much! I am pretty sure that there is a bug regarding TOGA. Even with A/THR disconnected, the FMA mode for thrust should be MAN TOGA and the A/THR should re-arm automatically. Since I have calibrated my thrustlevers that should not be the problem. Happy landings!
After initiate the go around, my MCDU doesn't seem to work as it should. The altitudes and speeds on the waypoints of the go around route is totally wrong (such as a few thousand feet above the runway) and I have to end up hand flying the airplane and land manually. Maybe I have did something wrong ? Thank you for your nice videos btw
Hi. Thank you. The version you are flying has a bug sometimes when performing a go-around. Does the FMGC disappear completely in the case you described?
@@Blackbox711 no, there is a green track on the ND and the MCDU but the altitudes and speeds are just wrong and I disconnected the AP and follow the track manually
Very nice video as always! One question: Did you use the rudder to crab the aircraft into the crosswind when you were flying manually on final approach?
@@Blackbox711 Hi. I have gone back in time again for some great instruction. So do you mean to say on the A320 you do not need to use rudder input on final approach till the flare? If so how do you maintain runway centreline track on approach with slight crosswinds. Thanks in advance for the response.
@@farayidarlingtonchaparadza20 Hi. The aircraft „crabs“. That means the nose of the aircraft points towards the wind side. The pilot (or autopilot) determines the amount of wind correction angle to counter the drift caused by the wind. That way the track of the aircraft over ground stays on the runway centerline.
Manually by going to the PERF page and select “activate approach phase” and confirm. Otherwise it will activate automatically when overflying the deceleration point when in NAV mode.
The trouble with these videos you make is that its making me more and more impatient for the release of the P3D version. I am finding that there are significant advantages over FSX,not least in VAS memory management (ought to be a benefit with this Addon) I viewed your recent stream where you flew to Liverpool in very bad weather(AS16) A real education.
Hi David. I feel with you man. Since the P3D version is in Beta testing I am optimistic that it will come out before Christmas. Keeping fingers crossed! Yeah, the flight to Liverpool was really interesting for me as well. The way the thunderstorms developed when we approached the airport was so cool. It demonstrated quite nicely how dynamic things can get in the cockpit. In those situations you need to know what to do. Anyway, looking forward to the next stream and hopefully I'll see you then? Regards BB
Switched to DX10 for the first time in 10 years on FSX... significant reduction in VAS usage and all round better performance. I finally can enjoy the A320-X with high frames. Not perfect, but much better, although I will be upgrading to P3D soon. It's a good solution until the P3D comes out.
If the approach was flown at flaps full, you can be below F-Speed with Flaps 3, so no problem. If approach was flown in Flaps 3, the Vapp normally is at or slightly above F-Speed. So no problem going Flaps 2. Strictly speaking when at Flaps 2 the speed should not be below F-Speed.
I'm pro on the 320 and I must say I'm pretty impressed, there's very little to say about your procedures. Only one thing, 38kts is the maximum demonstrated crosswind, it isn't a limit. There isn't actually a limit given by Airbus, there might be limits fixed by some airlines however.
Excellent videos! Been watching most of them, can u make a video with the steps of descend approach and landing ? I been flying Boeing so much so i want to learn the bus better. Thanks
Blackbox711 yes sure, I mean maybe a step by step video for a proper approach and landing, I been trying to follow the steps on the MCDU and autopilot but I always end up either to high or low so wanted to know if you can do a video like that or maybe share some material to learn this easier. Thank you for such a wonderful video could you please let me know do I need to push nav or pull heading when I. Get engine failure on a go around. N my intentions would be. Ils radar. Vector. Or a visual circuit
Hi. Thank you very much. Very good question! After an engine failure you are bank angle limited when flying below manouvering speed (i.e. below F-Speed at flaps one). If you were to use NAV-Mode and let the aircraft fly the route stored in the FMS, the aircraft would accept turns with a Bank up to 30 degrees bank. To avoid this you should use the HDG-Mode because the Autopilot would then limit the bank angle automatically. That is also a reason why under single engine you would avoid approaches using NAV-Mode. Regards

N then the ATC ask me to come back n proceed to VOR. N prepare for Visual circuit . What should be First reaction in order to reach the downwind track. . Should I set direct to the vor on mcdu page. Or something. Else. Coz I am aware about the visual circuit just this initial part. Of proceeding. Towards vor coz someone said u don't want to go over vor. Thank u again for taking your time n replying. Much appreciated
That is a very difficult question to answer. Your instructor/examiner must give you precise instructions on what they want to see. Also it depends on your airlines procedures. So I cannot answer that question, sorry. I can only say that a visual circuit entry is clearly defined in the operators operational manual. I also have to point out that I am not giving any real life instructions! All instructions are for simulation use only. Regards and all the best for your sim check. P.S. Have you asked your fellow student pilots or mentor on this matter?
Hi Yuri. It says GPWS FLAPS 3 on the E/WD. That is because I used flaps 3 configuration for the approach and pressed the FLAP 3 button on the overhead GPWS panel. This way I don't get a flap configuration warning. Regards
