      It’s a misdemeanor to enter illegally. Under SB4 it’s also a misdemeanor.
The difference is that CBP can deport people immediately.
Under SB4 they have to be arrested, charged, assigned Public Defenders, Immigration Lawyers, Interpreters and incarcerated at the State’s expense, and they are entitled to a jury trial under US law.… that’s just a start.
It gets very expensive for Texas taxpayers.
Of course, if they’re not arraigned within 48 hours they have to be released.
Greg Abbott never intended SB4 to become law.
It was just a political stunt and now he has to double down as it comes back to bite him in the butt.

    Immigration from Latin America
been a present topic in U.S. politics for a long time now, especially among conservatives. There has been significant fearmongering about the “threat” immigrants - especially undocumented immigrants - pose to people’s lives, job security, or the culture of the country.
These problems are overblown, and it’s worth knowing why people would cross the border, through deserts and with the help of smugglers. The important lesson is, to some extent, the poor conditions that lead people to flee their home countries have been affected by the United States’ actions in Latin America.
The U.S. has a long history of involvement in coups and civil wars of Latin American countries
