'Platzkart' is a nice German word. I have just realised that the Russian language uses a lot of German words, especially in the technical field.

@catsapp On the technical field Germans and Russians can work very well together, it just does not work on a political level.

I taught English in Russia for 5 years and only took the platzkart, even with a 40-hour journey from St. Petersburg to Krasnodar. For US viewers, it's kind of like a college dormitory on wheels.

Moscow IT worker here, main hobby is trekking new mountains in Russia once a year. I'm usually taking platzkart if it's not completely booked. Because being locked with 52 people is much more comfortable then being locked with 3 more or even 1. No one in platzkart is going to change air conditioning to full heat because they think their child is not warm enough in the middle of summer. Better then taking a plane because it's a great place to sleep overnight and wake up at your destination, saves time like instant teleportation. Yes I've tried all types of wagons. SW wagons were the worst experience because being treated like some king or ubermensh made me really shy, i'll better play table games with people from platzkart.

I rode the train from Moscow ( Pavelyetskaya station ) to Saratov in the '90s. The experience was great. I liked the old Soviet era trains but they are slow. The commodes dump onto the tracks and the attendant locks the lavatory door before entering a city. The compartments were clean and comfortable. And people share their food and drinks. I liked the tea and the tea cups provided by the attendants. Very professional. A great way to tour Russia.

In 1976 , I travelled 7 days (excluding stops ) on the Trans Siberian , in a small group , with an assigned Inturist guide . There were 2 classes - "hard" & "soft" . We had "hard" , with 4 to a compartment - but they were mostly group members . I recall them still being more comfortable than the one shown in the video . Occasionally a single Russian would be assigned to our compartments . Few spoke any English , but we played chess & they were pleasant enough in the compartment , but avoided us on the platform during short stops . This was still the height of the Cold War , so we understood . The Chai boiler was not self serve . A babushka did that for us .

Yes, everything is sad in Russia, there are no crowds of drug addicts dying from salts and acid right on the street, as in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, there are not half a million homeless people, as in the same USA. Inexpensive public transport, safe movement on railways, free medicine, lack of support for bestiality, pederasty and pedophilia.. Russia is just terrible, what can I say.

Have done a sleeper car from LA, California to Fort Worth, Texas. It's a cool way to travel, but getting a private sleeper car compartment is rather expensive way to travel (what I had was good bit roomier than your accommodations). There's the dedicated dining cars and observation deck cars. This sleeper compartment had it's own private toilet facility. Doing this at least once is a nice bucket list item to check off, but it's considerably more expensive way to travel vs the air lines. If came to Russia would want to indeed do such travel as sounds like it would be much more affordable.

The U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics recorded 54,539 train derailments between 1990 and 2021, an average of 1,704 per year. Just think about the figure - 1704 trains a year, Karl!!! Russia could not have dreamed of such a thing in a terrible dream. 1 derailment in Russia is already a state emergency.

Once in my compartment, a man snored all night, but it didn't bother me much, since I plugged my ears with earplugs. In the morning, when the man woke up, he asked me if he snored at night and did not interfere with sleep. I smiled, said that he was really snoring, but everything is OK. Then he exclaimed, "Oh, you should have pushed me and I would have shut up!". That was so sweet of him, lol.

Your Platzkart train is so much better than the best trains here. They got rid of the sleeping facilities years ago so people try and sleep in seats like on a plane. There is no hot water (what a good idea). Many years ago they had good restaurant cars on the trains but now it’s very basic….pizza, sandwiches, pasta….and also not cheap..
…..your country has made a sensible railway service …….

Haha! British railway carriage at 13.04. I think it is actually a 1950s sleeping car and not a dining car, and a miniature model. It would be nice if Nesty could have had a look at the more expensive seats at the other end of the train beyond the dining car, but I expect she would have risked another stern lecture from that middle aged woman about going into an area where she is not allowed.

You write the best content on RUclips. As the father of 2 adult daughters older than you, I have to say: You’re my guilty pleasure (for entertainment purposes of course).
Nesty, you don’t have to be political to be entertaining. If I want political content, I’ll log onto a social platform. In politics, you must take a stand, which is a no-win proposition.
Why didn’t you have your cameraman (your partner) with you on the train? I hope he’s safe…
I liked your “Slavic” bride Vlog, and laughed my ass off. Keep making great content, my favorite Agent…Nesty 🫶

My experience with russian railways was only taking a regional train from Yaroslavsky station to Sergey Posiad. Yaroslavsky is a beauty piece of architecture, only pigeons choose it as their toilet. The train costs only 2 euro but you got wooden planks and NO TOILET which was the worst thing. Anyway, unless you live in countries where there is a cult about railways (Germany,Switzerland,Japan and so on) there are always embarassing trains. Yours Nesty is not so bad telling the t truth 😅

Oh, I actually love train trips so I don’t think trains in Russia is bad (would love to make this type of rides in other countries as well!) it was my journey what was stressful, but overall trains is pretty comfortable and it feels so nice to take a rest for a few days there 🥰

@@AgentNesty Well of course, with trains you can take a lot of bags that will be very expensive if you use airplanes. They are also cheaper. I can tell you it is interesting this kind of travel where people got places to lay and eat , we don't have such things in our part of Europe. Every nation here has its own level of quality and we don't have a sovereign railroads management, we just can travel inside our countries plus there are long distance trains connecting the capitals but they aren't so much telling the truth. Every nation, also eastern europe (baltic, poland, czechia, etc.) has top premium train with 4 rows of seats with central corridor and many tables for laptop or book reading, one snack car and restaurant car, and sleeping car where you have a tiny room (privacy is enforced here). some old intercity trains got a side corridor and room where up to 6 people cand sit during daylight and then roll over the beds for sleeping. these are the nice trains. the local trains often are REALLY dirty, because homeless sleep inside in train depots and you can smell urine stench. In eastern EU coutnries trains are slow as hell and often do very small distance, then you need to change often. a 200km trip could take up to 4h. in the western is better. The best railways are Germany and Switzerland, there they have a cult about spotless, in time fast trains.

You probably took the local train. All Russian local trains have a toilet, but not in every car. You need to walk several cars forward or backward to find it (or ask the conductor and other people, they will tell you).

@@lolitavine96162 euro, wooden planks, obviously he described "elektrichka" which is basically a suburban metro. i think they are not supposed to have toilets? but i may be wrong

    • @lolitavine9616
      @lolitavine9616 Год назад +3

@@johnterry4071 There are toilets on the electrichka train. But, as I said, not in every car. In the old type of electrichka there is at least one toilet for the entire train. Toilet cabins are usually located in the head and tail cars. There may be two or more toilets in high-speed and modern electrichka trains.
