this is such an important scene for newt and his whole character arc and his relationship to both thomas and minho, as a fan i feel kinda betrayed that they would leave it out of the finished film. i know they're probably gonna excuse this decision with pacing reasons but honestly i would happily sit in that cinema seat for three more minutes if that meant i get to watch a proper portrayal of my (and many many others') favourite character also i gotta say - kudos to thomas, i truly couldn't have wished for a better or more perfect newt, he did a marvellous job throughout the films
It's the movie equivalent of this. Also he says it early in the movie because in the book he says it much later, after he got the flare. But the first time i watched the movie i thought i heard this exact quote from the book but i didn't remember 100% (i saw the movie twice).

He was about to cry because it's hard for a person who had attempted suicide to tell someone that he had once tried to kill himself. So he was about to cry because he regretted for his mistake and he doesn't want to remember it. It would have been even better if a tear had appeared in Newt's face when he said the ''I jumped off it''.
why they deleted this scene? i think that this scene is most important for plot, exclusively for relationship between minho and newt... if this scene were existed, more people would agree with 'sollen' : the reason why thomas and news desperately find minho in utmost runningtime. and i also remember the interview of thomas brodie-sangster that he put small stones in his shoes to express that newt got a limp (because of his attempt of commiting suicide.) but movie series NEVER explain why newt is limp. this scene is enough to be clear explanation..... sorry 'bout my awful english

i think that somehow Thomas should have saved Newt! In the films, the relationship between Newt and Minho is made really obvious and made closer than Newt and Thomas' friendship! I think that Newt and Thomas should be made to seem much closer than they are in the films and Thomas saving Newt, or even putting an arm around him or something would have showed their bond! It would have made his death worse though I spose!!!
Out of all scenes that they could delete. They picked the most important scene from the books. When watching the movie i was waiting for this scene. Then once the movie ended it made me sad knowing they didn't put this scene in the movie.

Just remember this one little rule Maze Runner fans for those who may be disappointed in this scene being deleted... SHOW DON'T TELL! Newts relationship with Thomas in the films is so nuanced because all that backstory is naturally built into his character through the screenplay. The placement of Newt sitting off the side of a building and the way Thomas stands slightly distant from Newt to me already naturally implies that Newt may have been suicidal in the past, 'mis-en-scene!' Or even how Newt is the one to let Winston take his own life by giving him the gun in The Scorch Trials. Given that the context of the scene is about how Newt is now infected, having this scene stay in the film would have made the moment of his death too foreshadowed and on the nose considering that in his last scene with Thomas he's practically begging to be killed by Thomas but in the end stabs himself. True character is revealed through actions and if I'm being honest I don't need this scene to appreciate Newt and Thomas's arc because it's telling me rather than showing me. It's no surprise that the melody that plays during this deleted scene is the same one that was played during Winston's death 😉

Patrick Ward Getting stabbed by the blade and slowly succumbing seems more dramatic anyway than being comically flung away from a bullet shot (a la Django Unchained). Speaking of blades, that reminds me of this "Romeo and Juliet" part in the movie "Shakespeare in Love", where "Juliet" draws out her big dagger and the whole audience gasps loudly as she "kills" herself...perhaps that kind of shock reaction from this audience was the sort of thing Wes Ball was hoping for.
This is such an important scene! When i was in the cinema, only me, my friend and maybe 2 others cried. No one, i repeate no one, cared because they keep on deleting important newt scenes. Scenes that make us understand him and fall in love with him. I feel like they spent too much time on unnecessary scenes when they could have put this in instead!
I feel like they film all these important quiet scenes with the intention of not putting them in and keeping them as deleted scenes bc they know the real fans want to see them so they have to have them in somehow (like on the dvd) but they think the common viewer will get bored so they cut it and blame it on how it didn’t fit how fast paced the movie was. At least that’s what I think bc same thing happened in the others.

It's actually Newt's scene about him talking about how he broke his leg. Just can't believe it how he is not an immune, it's very heart broking when Newt dies, but it's even more heart melting when he read his letter. I can't take this sadness anymore, I can't keep that sadness in me, cause if I don't right I would be committing suicide for Teresa and Newt 😢😢😢😭😭😭. Cause I just can't take it anymore Newt is a important person throughout the whole movie, and it all come to this, *cries*
I think they deleted this scene because Newt's limp wasn't made too obvious in the previous two movies. If I weren't a diehard fan of the trilogy and just a plain audience member, I think I'd be quite confused - because where in the trilogy was it ever explicitly revealed that his leg was broken? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I really don't recall a scene or a line that also talked about Newt's leg/limp. Though still think this is a very substantial scene with exceptional performances from Dylan and Thomas (the whole movie, actually).
spoiler: I'm pretty sure the reason why he said that he still felt empty was that of Sonya aka Lizzy, Cuz she was missing, but of course, Newt didn't know that he had a sister.

honestly i was fine with them not mentioning the suicide attempt at all in the movies, but the fact that they shot a full scene and just opted not to use it for whatever reason makes my brain cells die.

I never read the books, and I feel like Newt's character is well-developed in the movies, but all these Newt scenes that they deleted really would have added a LOT more depth. I didn't even know he attempted suicide until I looked online and I feel like it's central to his character. Also the whole "You can't give up. I won't let you" thing that they didn't put in the Scorch Trials?? _That's really important???_ Movie was still amazing, but... the dialogue that they replaced this with wasn't nearly as deep or as significant as this. They certainly weren't just "cutting for time" either--they had this scene in the movie, they just replaced the dialogue and I have no idea why.
They shouldn't have cut this out. As many people pointed out it is important for newts story arc. But even more importantly all the scenes they cut out changed newt as a character. It is very evident in the book that he never stopped being suicidal in the first place. When he found out he was infected in the book he was so numb he just told the other gladers to get over it. He is so desperate to die. This adds to the tragedy of his story and how a reader or viewer may feel about the character. Also, I feel its important to note that Alby was actually the one that saved him, as reader would know, which once again, changes a character dynamic.

This scene is so beautifully heartbreaking. Thomas's acting is flawless and you can literally feel how powerful the friendship is that he has with Dylan. The scene is far too important and I will never understand the decision to not include it in the film.

I understand why they deleted this, it wasn’t Minho who saved him, it was alby . But then again They needed to leave this information in the movie. The suicide attempted is a real important factor in newts character. Not only does it show the way Newts character is but it shows the understanding of him and certain relationships with the gladers. They left so much out of the scorch trials as well!

In the death cure book (pg 249) he says that Alby dragged him back to the glade right before the doors closed, so it was inside the maze. Also Alby was the first in the glade only when we refer to the movie. In the books about 30 people including Alby, Newt and Minho were all the first to come up into the glade. In the movie i guess after Alby, Newt was the 2nd and Minho the 3rd.

I think that's what they say in the interview. Newt felt reflected in Thomas when he entered the Labyrinth: the same fears, the same doubts and the same impulse and instinct to find a way out. That's why he feels so attached to him and protects him so much.

This is such an important scene! When i was in the cinema, only me, my friend and maybe 2 others cried. No one, i repeate no one, cared because they keep on deleting important newt scenes. Scenes that make us understand him and fall in love with him. I feel like they spent too much time on unnecessary scenes when they could have put this in instead!

I feel like they film all these important quiet scenes with the intention of not putting them in and keeping them as deleted scenes bc they know the real fans want to see them so they have to have them in somehow (like on the dvd) but they think the common viewer will get bored so they cut it and blame it on how it didn’t fit how fast paced the movie was. At least that’s what I think bc same thing happened in the others.

He was supposed to tell this before newt dies, when he's yelling at him. they put this scene in but used a different script and they didn't share this part.

Just can't believe it how he is not an immune, it's very heart broking when Newt dies, but it's even more heart melting when he read his letter. I can't take this sadness anymore, I can't keep that sadness in me, cause if I don't right I would be committing suicide for Teresa and Newt 😢😢😢😭😭😭. Cause I just can't take it anymore Newt is a important person throughout the whole movie, and it all come to this, *cries*
I think they deleted this scene because Newt's limp wasn't made too obvious in the previous two movies. If I weren't a diehard fan of the trilogy and just a plain audience member, I think I'd be quite confused - because where in the trilogy was it ever explicitly revealed that his leg was broken? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I really don't recall a scene or a line that also talked about Newt's leg/limp.
Though still think this is a very substantial scene with exceptional performances from Dylan and Thomas (the whole movie, actually).

I'm pretty sure the reason why he said that he still felt empty was that of Sonya aka Lizzy, Cuz she was missing, but of course, Newt didn't know that he had a sister.

honestly i was fine with them not mentioning the suicide attempt at all in the movies, but the fact that they shot a full scene and just opted not to use it for whatever reason makes my brain cells die.
I legit started crying again after watching this.. such a beautiful scene showing us the importance of the bond shared between Newt and Minho and Newt and Minho and Thomas overall... this amazing trio of best friends who were more like brothers to each other yet never got to end up together...all three of them💔💔😭😭😭😿😿😭😭💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭
The scene that they replaced this with isn't nearly as good? I never read the books, and I feel like Newt's character is well-developed in the movies, but all these Newt scenes that they deleted really would have added a LOT more depth. I didn't even know he attempted suicide until I looked online and I feel like it's central to his character. Also the whole "You can't give up. I won't let you" thing that they didn't put in the Scorch Trials?? _That's really important???_
Movie was still amazing, but... the dialogue that they replaced this with wasn't nearly as deep or as significant as this. They certainly weren't just "cutting for time" either--they had this scene in the movie, they just replaced the dialogue and I have no idea why.
They shouldn't have cut this out. As many people pointed out it is important for newts story arc. But even more importantly all the scenes they cut out changed newt as a character. It is very evident in the book that he never stopped being suicidal in the first place. When he found out he was infected in the book he was so numb he just told the other gladers to get over it. He is so desperate to die. This adds to the tragedy of his story and how a reader or viewer may feel about the character. Also, I feel its important to note that Alby was actually the one that saved him, as reader would know, which once again, changes a character dynamic.

I feel like this made us not fall in love with Newt as much. This is a really important scene in the movie, yet this and the only other scene in which his limp is mentioned is cut out.

This scene is so beautifully heartbreaking. Thomas's acting is flawless and you can literally feel how powerful the friendship is that he has with Dylan. The scene is far too important and I will never understand the decision to not include it in the film.

All of the important Newt/Thomas scenes I consider canon even though they’re deleted because it adds more depth and I just like it that way.
I understand why they deleted this, it wasn’t Minho who saved him, it was alby . But then again They needed to leave this information in the movie. The suicide attempted is a real important factor in newts character. Not only does it show the way Newts character is but it shows the understanding of him and certain relationships with the gladers. They left so much out of the scorch trials as well!
No i think Minho saving him makes more sense. Alby isn't a runner so why he entered into the maze ?
Γιαννης Διακογεωργακης He was the first person up into the glade, he technically was the first runner. He was there before newt and formed that friendship - I’m not sure that the suicide attempt was inside or outside of the glade. I’m pretty sure it was inside though
In the death cure book (pg 249) he says that Alby dragged him back to the glade right before the doors closed, so it was inside the maze. Also Alby was the first in the glade only when we refer to the movie. In the books about 30 people including Alby, Newt and Minho were all the first to come up into the glade. In the movie i guess after Alby, Newt was the 2nd and Minho the 3rd.

I think that's what they say in the interview. Newt felt reflected in Thomas when he entered the Labyrinth: the same fears, the same doubts and the same impulse and instinct to find a way out. That's why he feels so attached to him and protects him so much.
