A very superficial reading of a fairy-tale! You're just looking at it from an 'on the surface' sociological perspective. Just one small example: On The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon, the gesture of throwing the date pit and it hitting the son of the demon is a metaphor. Meaning every action has a consequence even though the action is unconscious. The space around you is not empty, there's life all over, and even a minuscule gesture can create a chain of events and cause trouble. Furthermore, you are responsible for your actions. So from just one simple element of this tale, one can acquire great wisdom. But the reading we see in this video frames the part that I've just explained with 'wrong place, wrong time' and 'the power (authority) dynamics'. I think that's a flat approach.
Private room is not from 18th or 19th century, maybe in the west it was. Indus valley civilization is ancient, like before pyramids ancient. They had indoor plumbing and even private bathrooms in house.
Professor you are mistaken about Ishmael (saas). We believe both sons are legitimate and favored. Jews and Christians use the Massoretic text to invalidate Ishmael.
Interesting.. :^)0- However, I came to find nice info about the book.. :^)0- I came out with info on how women are treated in Arab culture.. :-)0- Wow.. :^)0-
Story telling is also big in traditional Islamic and even non-Islamic millues like in much if non-muslim Africa. They like cliff-hangers. The sister being there is wierd, but it was requested. Get over it!
Generosity is a HUGE VIRTUE in Islam and is believed to be one of the things pre-islamic Arabs excelled at. Cutting off family ties and being charitable and generous with family are also huge moral issues. The first is a big sin. The second is cause for huge blessings.
Why do they come off as almost unable to engage the text or Islamic concepts? La hawla wa laa quwwata illa billahi is not the shahaaaaadah. It is a declaration of God's power and control over everything. A mass transmitted hadeeth says that this idea and utterance is equal to a treasure in paradise, helping you to get there and be rewarded greatly there. The characters in the story are very SUPERFICIALLY Muslim. Littering not encouraged? How is throwing a date pit in the middle of the desert littering?
in shaa Allah!!!! Please guys!! This is basic stuff. And this is not about being a seductress. It's about vindictive women taking vengeance on men through sex no matter how much he stresses himself over her honor. Many women use sex as a weapon or to attain status while not being actually interested in the men. Hint: prostitution and hypergamy. That's what that means. You guys are supposing the innocence of the women. And how are the lives of those queens restricted??!! Professor!!!! Stop it!!! You need to watch some MGTOW! Go look up how many men's children aren't actually theirs IN THE WEST! Stop tip-toeing around those female students.

Hey Michael, thanks for this! 💎
Very great explanation ,l want to know what 's the favourite story you 're influenced more?
small correction. in arabic language it does not say 1001 nights but rather--> 1000 nights and a night or 1000 nights and one night
In arab storytelling , when we want to tell a story that dont match our religion "halal" , we create a characters from other cultures 😅

I find it annoying that you cannot realize the deeper layers of these stories yet you teach them.
Can you elaborate more about these deeper layers, I am really interested?
To judge peoples and customs of the past with today's insight is childish and ignorant. You cannot fairly and honestly do this.
