- UPDATE: I have just found out this is becoming a show made by AMC and Disney with Ridley Scott AND Hugh Howey is part of the writing team. That SUPER EXCITING...
I have held back talking about my favorite series but decided to break that with one of my first favorites, Silo Saga. I also haven't heard many people talk about this series, but noticed it on peoples shelves so figured I could help anyone who may be interested.

I’m reading Shift now having read Wool. This is mind-blowingly good writing.
it seems to be hit and miss but I loved it and going back in time to get more depth and back story.
It’s been awhile since I read the series. Now that I’ve started watching the series on Apple TV I’m probably goi g to reread the series. Stopped by here to remind myself why I lived the books so much. (I forget a lot of the details) just remember I loved the originality.
I am really enjoying the SILO series on Apple+ that are based on these books!
Picked the trilogy box set up on Black Friday. Looking forward to reading the series!
Now there’s a TV series, everyone’s all over it… funny how that works! Like you, I read the books years ago and it has lived with me ever since like only the worlds created by the great works do. It’s in my all-time top 5 sci-fi novels without doubt. If making a TV series means more people read the books, then I’m all for that!
Yes! Exactly. Only 2 episodes in but liking how they have done things so far. May need to do my first ever reread of the series after finishing season 1.
What are your other 4?
@falsofalsofalso3348 any from the following (impossible to narrow it down to just 4 to add to Silo series)
- The Dispossessed
- Childhood's End
- Seveneves
- The Player of Games
- Ender's Game
- House of Suns
- Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy series
- Children of Time Trilogy
- War of the Worlds
- Frankenstein
Even with this list, I'm leaving out some SF books I love so much. That's the problem with lists...
How about you?
@MoreRubberyThanTurgid @MoreRubberyThanTurgid OMG you like Children of Time??? its amazing i love Portia, those little spiders building their civilization just brings me life. I haven't read a lot just picked up the hobby a year ago since i left high school so i can narrow it down.
-Children of Time
-Dune
-The Stars My Destination
-The Left Hand of Darkness (very recommended)
-Moonrise: The Golden Age of Lunar Adventures
I'm going to start reading some of the ones you recommended, thanks man take care.
@@falsofalsofalso3348 Left Hand of Darkness is fantastic I agree, I almost put that in the list, I chose The Dispossessed instead from the same series (The Hainish Cycle), that's the other standout novel from that for me. If you loved Children of Time (and the rest of the trilogy I presume?), the same author has another great SF trilogy called The Final Architecture beginning with Shards of Earth. Recommend that. SF books are a whole universe... I much prefer to the TV series, sometimes even the movies. Have a good one, cheers man
I've read all the books, Wool, Shift and Dust. They are great reads. I am so happy they are making the TV series.
I hope they do the show well. Also curious if they will try and branch out if it succeeds. Lots of fan fiction in other solos.
@@AverageJoesLibrary Have you read the Sand books by Hugh Howey? I just bought the Sand sequel, Across the Sand that I didn't know existed until recently. Lastly, check out Howey's Beacon 23 which is also being made into a TV series.
@@colonelklink53 I did, I read the first one. It didn’t measure up to Silo but I have not read the sequel yet.
I JUST bought and got the whole set. Never into sci fi books, but After watching silo on Apple TV I was blown away by the lingering themes and metaphors for real life. I intend to savour every moment and take ona whole new exp by reading the books. 🙏🏻
Great video, I recently picked up Wool after hearing Michael K. Vaughn talk about it so it's moving up my list
Awesome video and review 🙂. They sound great, adding them to my list now!
Great if you’re looking for a dystopian feel and uncovering secrets
@@AverageJoesLibrary sounds perfect 😊
Read all the books more than once. The way the story evolves as you go through the books is brilliant.
As a book enthusiast, I say that it was the most beautiful trilogy I have ever read.
O7 for Lukas, Donald and Holston.
They made the show. The first two episodes aired today on Apple TV+
Apple is making an Apple + series on Silo
hope they don't change everything like they did to Foundation.
yea which i had NO idea until i saw people were watching this video ha.. i watched the trailer and it looks legit so far. Things look how i pictured though when i did IMDB was confused by a few characters. I wondering how they will go with book 2.
@@AverageJoesLibrary yeah I saw some characters missing. sadly I think Apple will change a lot from the book or even condense the books together
A mention of "Silo" gets an instant like and subscribe and now I will check out your other work.
Thanks!
Damn didn't know Ridley Scott was attached to this earlier on. It's still a banger nonetheless!
Ive heard of these!!! Sounds like it should be on my TBR
Of course! Great for dystopian and mystery read.
You won’t be disappointed.
@@jonathancooper4914 that’s great to hear!
Love all the books in the series!
thank you
Heyyy! Great video. (I just recorded and edit a video relating to this series as well!) It is such a great series, one of my favorites as well.
Yea very underrated. Love all of the secrets and depth to the world (pun intended?). Really makes me wanna dive into the fan fiction.
@@AverageJoesLibrary How pumped are you for the TV adaptation?
@@BookInvasion I haven’t seen that it is happening. Looks like it’s been tried twice but never got off the ground. Have you see different? Maybe with those new covers it’s something new in the works? (Buy before they all get that sticker!)
@@AverageJoesLibrary looks to be happening as of a couple days ago- hughhowey.com/the-wool-tv-show/
@@BookInvasion holy crap that’s amazing. Some big names involved and he’s part of the writing. Thanks for that! I’m definitely gonna get excited now.
Hyped for the show coming out tomorrow?!?!?
Continuing my excitement cause I know how film makers can butcher books. However definitely excited, don’t have Apple TV but signing up for it specifically for this.
The first book was really good the second book was very lackluster after the second book I don't know if I really want to listen to the Third
I think it’s worth it. The second book I could see being a step back but it was building the full back story. I felt it interesting that chronologically book 2 happens first. But book 3 brings them all together.
Book 1 was one of my favorite books ever. Book 2 paled in comparison, but I still enjoyed it. I thought the 3rd book was an absolute disaster and it ruined the whole series for me.
Who is he talking about that make sci fi book list!?
Nice!
I am here because I am so lazy to read the books or watch the series. Please, I just need to know what happens in the end. 😒
Ha but so much and there some Great build up. I assume the show I’ll make the build up better.
I think I'll watch the series first... have you read destiny's crucible by Thoresen? that's an amazing read
I have not but see they are on Kindle Unlimited so will add to the list. it also sounds very interesting.
Now it's a apple TV show.
Yesss I’m very curious and excited about it.
you book snobs are so annoying I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AND I CANT FIND IT ANYWHERE
Ik same
No cheating.
Sounds like a rip from Fallout games
Don’t think fallout owns the rights to post apocalypse bunker genre? Also from what I understand fallout is all aboot scavenging on the surface where as silo nobody is allowed to leave and to leave is a death sentence to clean the one outside camera.
