I come for the pictures, this site has more rare and uncommon photos from back in the Day than any other.

Ancient old Hippy, here. I'm 70. I was able to visit SF and the Haight twice, in 1988 & 1989. By then, the Yuppies were there, and a lot of the old stuff I came to see had been gentrified away. I was however, pleased to find an old, original "Head-Shop",...a groovy place to buy paraphernalia, for smoking weed. I bought a really cool pipe, that I still use to this day. Weed is finally legal in my town, though they are dragging their heels on opening the weed stores. I relied on the black market for 50 years. I went to a cool, older bookstore, and bought a great book, by the Beat Generation writer, Charles Bukowski. And I found a newer artsy shop, selling nicely done, table top, Hologram photos. I was lucky that where I grew up, in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1960s through the 1980s, there was a historical neighborhood, that has been home to the Beatniks, and later to the Hippies. It even resembled the Haight-Ashbury area. Streets lined with gracefully aging Victorian homes, and apartments where the rents were reasonably affordable to Hippies and college students. I loved my visits to SF, and regret that I couldn't have moved out there in the 1960s.

Happy to see it gone. That was the parking lot for Park Bowling, now a record store. I took photos of protests against the opening. Young kids had signs too, but they were for it.
Protest parade down Haight, motorcycle cops escorting.
Soon, lots of litter in the Park across the street.

Country Joe sleeps with "The Fishes", and; Oh yeah; Gracie was not a founding member of Jefferson Airplane. Wikipedia is better on the history, but no pictures (or feedback on the audio)

Weird, I had no idea Charles Manson had an Ohio connection. I grew up in Cleveland and I presently live in Columbus, Ohio. If that weirdo Manson was alive today, he would be considered an "influencer", in today's parlance.
