    Being a Singaporean , having lived in US for 14 yrs and another 9 yrs in Shanghai. And now finally back in Singapore, I can say each place has its own advantages and disadvantages. But it is good to venture around when you are young. (when you are old, you will feel homesick and craving for home food)

      We worked and live in many countries including the US. Now we decided to retire, we go back to our home, Singapore. She is still the best among other countries. It’s not just the food, or very much cheaper medical system, or better infrastructure, or better safety. We go back because it’s home. It’s the root of our lives..

    Ghaib, there is a big difference between direct tax and indirect tax. Singapore direct tax may appear low but they get you on indirect taxes! For example an aussie friend of mine say the direct tax in singapore is great but when you add all the indirect taxes, your net take home pay can be the equivalent to what you would earn back in Australia! Don't be fooled by singapore's insidious taxation practices.

      @kang_317 indirect taxes includes a lot more than just car. The fact that petrol is taxed on import means you are paying for it in the pump pricing. This includes GST, and a whole lot of other indirect taxes that may be invisible to us on the surface

      There is progressive taxation in Singapore. More for the higher income earners and less or even negative taxation in the form of rebates for the lower income earners. This makes for a more equitable society. Don’t like being taxed either, but accept it as necessary to have a country that functions well.

      My cousins migrated to Netherlands with their family since young. Even if they own cars, they parked their cars at the outskirt of the city center and take the equivalent of mrt to their offices. A nice thing is they live in big houses, but for me it is also a headache, as even when I live in HDB it is already very messy, can't imagine if I lived in multi-storey house

    • @lyndall21859
      @lyndall21859 4 месяца назад

      I lived overseas, had a nice house with nice big garden. And got sick of the maintenance that goes with the garden and large house, everything DIY cos tradesmen are expensive. Worked in cbd can't drive in as parking costs $30/hr. Public transport cost $5 to and fro and miss 1 bus on weekend u wait for another hour. Car spoilt mechanic takes long time to fix and costs an arm and a leg. Eating out so expensive, had to prepare all meals at home, pack lunchboxes, after work tired still got to cook as no cheap option to eat out. School uniforms also expensive. 1 school shirt $30, winter jacket $80, had to get summer formal, summer PE outfit, winter formal, winter PE outfits, uniforms alone cost me $500 per child. Not just all these costs. Every year there is weather problems like large hailstones that damaged our roofs, floods and damaging winds that block roads, water creep into house, blackouts for days. not to mention the crime - home invasions and armed robberies (knives, axes, machetes, GUNS), shootings, car thefts. What's the point of having nice big house and nice car when you don't even feel peace at home? We don't hear about things in these seemingly peaceful relaxed countries unless you read the local news and are on local community groups. Safety and convenience in Singapore many take for granted. Can you walk alone at 4am in Australia, Germany? Can your child take public transport himself at age 7? Just last week alone there were 2 child kidnapping attempts in australia. Sg is not perfect but we should be thankful for things others can't enjoy overseas.

    16:20 oh cool, there’s no need to get married and one can get partner visa. So, either finding a partner or finding a job is the question then 😂

    Ah yes the "partner visa", the "I-win" button ultimate short-cut to bypass all the immigration depts of the developed world. Sucks to be single or LGBT. Basically got to slog and compete like crazy to get your foot through the door in countries like Japan, etc. where visas are hard to obtain (foreign pop.

      There are many countries with less land than Singapore. None of them imposes COE. Land size has nothing to do with COE. Make of that what you will.

    I wouldn’t ask people to travel so much given the carbon footprint (unless they don’t plan to have kids) but definitely a good idea to live abroad for a few years. ❤
