I'm not sure if you originally recorded with so many short cuts, but it'd be smoother with longer sections with the shots. I know it's a lot of work to edit, but spreading it out into two or three videos, with a bit longer sections for a scene would be easier to absorb. Since this is my first comment, I really appreciate the time you're taking to upload these sections of history, and your life. It feels more real, than even the traveler shows they have on TV, here in Hawaii. It'd be neat if you did a video about yourself, and how important these films are for you, as an intro film for your channel.
Hello! Thanks for commenting! About the length of each clip within the video. There are two issues with that. One is that - since editing at the time (involving making a new analog tape from the original analog tape - and then needing to make a copy of that to send to anyone) quickly degraded the image, I was trying to do in-camera editing and tended to take pretty short clips in the first place. Another issue is recorded music! I have never put music into my videos, but often there were shops playing music and when that has leaked into my videos, I try to cut those scenes to prevent being attacked by the recording industry. There were several places in this video that I had to either completely cut out or drastically shorten to get rid of unwanted (leaked in) music. In any case, I'm happy to hear you like the material (in spite of the shortness of the scenes!). Actually, between 1990 and 1993, I tried different things. Some of my videos have long scenes.... This video from February 1991 was at a time when I was taking very short clips. As for explaining the project: The basic aim was to have the viewer feel as though they were there. It's impossible to fully do that of course, but that was the aim.
Oh! And one other thing! The first part of this video taken in Kuroiso Station overlaps with a separate video I uploaded showing *only* Kuroiso Station, so for this video I just put in a few parts of that for background before setting off walking around in the city. The long version of Kuroiso Station is shown in this video: 1991 黒磯駅 Kuroiso Station 910216 ruclips.net/video/X6HIeIXqL9g/видео.html
The way it seems to be done on TV is they do a lot of freeze frames and endless replays of anything considered to be interesting. The result is people have gotten lazy and don't pay attention to what they see, since anything they think they are meant to see is either freeze framed or repeated ten times for them. I don't want to insult people's intelligence and/or waste their time with that kind of made-for-neanderthals material, so....
Thank you for film.
