    Helping in making informed decision, that is good..
    However if he mentioned something like have a good think about it, and the final decision rest in patient themselves and make them aware about it is their life and body and they have all the autonomy to it..

    As soon as he said 'there's a 1 in 1,000 chance of dying from the surgery' I would have immediately taken the medication instead.
