      All of those sweets came to your countries when they were parts of USSR, because they are Russian sweets (praanik is dated 8th century Russia). :) I know your governments told you to hate Russians for the past decades, but Russian Empire and USSR actually gave you more good than bad (favourite foods, schools, infrastructure, power plants, etc.).

  • @ImNotaRussianBot

    Birch trees secrete sap, much like maple trees. That sap is turned into syrup, which is the base for a lot of Eastern European drinks, sweets, etc. Russian person here. :)

    • @ImNotaRussianBot
      @ImNotaRussianBot 9 лет назад

      I've had zifir (the marshmellow-y things...they're fairly common in any Russian/Eastern European market in the States) and the praniki (the white cookies...my grandma made the best...and died with the recipe).
      This leads me to assume that the Estonain chick is giving them popular sweets that Estonians eat, not necessarily Estonian sweets.
      I mean, I could be wrong. Soviet Union mashed a lot of cultures together. These sweets could very well be from Estonia.
      I'm Russian-American, btw.

    • @ImNotaRussianBot
      @ImNotaRussianBot 9 лет назад

      ***** Having a link to an Estonian sweets company that happens to make said cookies does not prove they originated from Estonia, it proves exactly what I just wrote: that an Estonian confectionary makes praniki.
      The story of praniki's origin may be out there, or lost forever. It doesn't matter. They're a delicious, Slavic/Baltic snack. :)
