+Markee10B He actually is acting it out, when Narukami reached out for Adachi, he batted his hand away and proceeded to attack Narukami, referencing the battle with him in Magatsu Inaba, then his with his acts as a puppet, he was being controlled by Ameno-Sagiri, while Adachi has his own plan, most of the time he was just a pawn to Izanami.
+TempKitsempt even the small things like the way he moves his arm at 1:25 and 1:36 is like the fight when he had his gun lol (just not as well... cruel or would the better word be "crazy"? )
+ThaScatman Can you be more specific? I get what you mean, but can't tell exactly what he's doing. Don't know if I'm just stupid or if the song is so fucking amazing that I can't pay attention to anything else while listening to it... :/
Don't want to sound like one of *those* people but the dance itself is very symbolic: It starts with Adachi entering the scene (Inaba), despite his confident look he is uncomfortable and feels out of place, then he obtains his power and realises how in control this makes him, with that the murders start and Adachi begins to have fun with the game he has created. The part where he starts doing the robot or acts like a puppet could be symbolic to how he feels: That no matter how hard he works, he feels like his life is on a railroad to destruction and that he has little to no control over his life, especially since Izanami was basically just using him to test humanity's potential and wants. When Yu enters they dance parallel to each other (a symbol of their similarities to one another) and when Yu reached out to accept Adachi, he struck back, preferring isolation to camaraderie. At this point they have their backs turned on each other more and their dance moves differ, a sign that Adachi has chosen a different path from Yu and for all their similarities; they are still different. When Yu leaves, Adachi has his back turned, showing that he still doesn't accept his way of viewing the world but his dance retains the same type of vigour as before, if not even greater than when he started, symbolic of how Yu's views really did change him. At the end, he adopts a similar pose to the beginning segment but with a smile of content and looking more comfortable. This is probably showing him at the end of Ultimax and how he has accepted that he was wrong but has also decided on his own path to take.
How about Adachi lowering his hands with a forlorn look on his face, seemingly gaining back his own control for a minute, possibly hinting at him having doubts towards his game, then having his arms raised back up by the invisible puppet master, in a way that sort of implies "Your work is not finished yet."
the dance is interpretive af. in the beginning he establishes his character as a cool and level headed dude who's bored and doing the song and dance that comes along with his choices in career. as the middle starts breaking down he shows that he's abusing his power and getting rid of whatever he doesn't like for the fun of it. he's becoming drink off of his own power. he's being made into a puppet with strings naked to the invisible eye once the song gets soft, he's getting weighed down by his actions and debating on whether his need to fulfill and relieve his boredom was worth all the hassle. he feels boxed in and conflicted with what being an officer taught him (fight for good and seek the truth) and his own arrogance and constant need for entertainment. a slave to his own desires and a tool for those who would steer him astray. then Narukami comes in and things get exciting again. He tries to strike at Adachi but is always one step behind, but once he has Adachi on his knees, he wants to help but Adachi refuses because of his pride. they go about their business always out of each other's reach until they dance back to back, unaware that their dances are almost exactly the same. their struggle had been similar and their objective was pretty much the same the whole time. in the end Adachi feels a new resolve to look at things in a different light. he is no longer anyone's puppet and he still longs for a world more filled with excitement but also seeks to stop those who would do it harm.
I love Adachi's dance here. It's crude and unpolished; a perfect contrast to Yu, who's undergone rigorous training and practice. Yet they seem to sync up perfectly whenth ey're both on the floor. Not to mention there does seem to some indication that Adachi is acting out the events of Persona 4 as he knows them in his motions. It's both interesting and oddly powerful.
Recently the Persona 4 Dancing All Night Official Art-book was released. I didn’t buy the book myself, but I was interested to see if there was any information on the Adachi DLC. I tried searching on Japanese twitter to see if the book contains anything about Adachi, and I was able to patch together what is written in an interview through searching for multiple tweets. I don’t have any clear sources, so there might be some things left out/mistakes, but for the most part I think the following info is correct. Adachi is dancing in Yomotsu Hirasaka, the place where Yu was dreaming of early in P4. Apparently, they had Adachi dance in that setting because he is supposedly dreaming; basically the entire dance is the real Adachi (in jail) having a dream. This also includes the fever time with Yu, it’s actually not the real “Yu” that is dancing with Adachi, but rather it is the image of Yu that has been burned into Adachi’s mind. In other words, the “Yu” that we see is how Adachi imagines him to be. This is also why the dance style is slightly different compared to when Yu is dancing with the other characters. The style is more how Adachi would view Yu, pushy and naïve . They also put in imagery that references episode Adachi from P4 Ultimax. So this is what Adachi meant when he wrote in his letter that he thought about you a lot while being in jail. Adachi did not break out of jail again, he just wanted to dance so bad he dreamed it all up. Also, I think we can see the pushy/naïve attitude of “Yu” when he’s trying to take Adachi’s hand, and the reference to Ultimax is probably the final back-to-back shot at the end of fever time. Adachi is such a fucking loser holy shit
+BlueTornado50 Good explanation, but horrible conclusion. A fucking loser? He's considered a great villain (and tsundere) by the Persona community. His depressive past, his moto (he has not, simply he was "bored", which is interpreted as disgusted of society and the "luck" which only a few many have to succed in life. And of course, his "transformation" in antagonist (not villain) in Persona 4 Arena.
+Roberto Gonzalez Adachi's whole shtick is being a butthurt crybaby because he wasn't born rich and can't get laid. He's like a child throwing a temper tantrum. He served his purpose as the foil to Narukami and that's it. To even consider him a "great villain" is laughable, and was likely deemed so by a community of idiots who started playing Persona at 3, tried playing 1 and 2 after 4, but gave up because of the more complex battle system.
Ups, we have found some hater around here! And don't worry, i (and probably "we) have played a lot of them as Persona 2, Souls Hackers, Shin Megami Tensei 4 and Persona 3 of course. And you dont need to look in Wikipedia to write a Yukikko's quote. I believe you. And that's the charm of Adachi, my little fella. Instead of have a "big plan to destroy the world" and so on, he only did that "because of the lulz". And that's it. That sense of absurdity is the thing which make Adachi a "great" villain. Not being a great villain. But yes, i give you that misogyny is not one of his best features.
Adachi: man how's that for pathetic, people will pay to see a grown ass man like me dance around like a Rise wanna-be but you guys are contractually obligated to be here.Yu: It's true that it's be odd, but at least we look good doing it.Adachi:...shuddap...
DGMachine yup 5'11 is tall for a japanese kid. That's around 178cm i believe. I'm a black dude who's about a year or 2 older and he's as tall as me. Fun fact; Tatsuya Suou, protagonist of Persona 2: Innocent Sin beats Yu for the tallest Persona protagonist by half a cm lol
I love how at certain points he looks so confused and almost scared at what his arms are doing, like he can't control himself. It speaks so much to his character that he goes back and forth between feeling like his "hand" was forced and feeling that he's in control of it all.
God I love this dance and this song. It's so symbolic. It's a re-enactment of the Persona 4 plot. First he's unsure when he gets to Inaba, his face says it as he makes his sweeping entrance. Then he realises he holds a power and becomes confident, his mind becoming more and more fragmented with the thrill of it all as he turns slightly mad with power meanwhile he keeps up his image of the false fool (The changes in his facial expressions and some of his movements; like he's unsure and timid). His movements become more erratic and angry. He makes moves like he's a puppet on a string because he is the puppeteer, the mastermind, he see's himself as a showman. But in a way he is also a mere puppet. AND then we see his dance with Yu! Their battle rages and you feel your seeing good vs evil. Yu offers his hand as if saying 'You can still come back from this' but Adachi is too far gone with power. They're Ying and Yang and their dance shows that. Just...UGH! I LOVE IT!
my favorite piece of work in this game, the dance it's perfect, the music is amazing, but the icing on the cake is deff how they managed to tell his story with dance.
Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way...He murdered two people and pushed another to kidnap others...but he is honestly a pretty engaging character, and this dance serves to highlight all facets of Adachi...
+MintyCoolness yeah right...!For me Adachi is not a true psycho or anything...I feel like deep inside he understand that what he's doing is worthless or bad since he admit that him and yu are the same basically but he should have take the same "path" as Yu 0.0 I don't understand why people hate him so much
+Aceisawesome would advise u get Persona 4 golden if u weren't already considering it, just so u will understand more of the story, and cause it is an amazing game
+Roxas Blaze actually, I've already seen a let's play on youtube and since p4 is a very plot heavy game, I feel I wouldn't enjoy it as much now that I know he plot. I love rhythm games too, so it's a plus XD
everytime I play the song, I imagine that adachi is ready to fight Yu and his friend on top of magatsu inaba but they didn't show up, so adachi start dancing and near the end the team arrived and Yu has enough courage to dance with adachi and after the dance they Start fighting
Local man breakd out of jail to dance with teenagers

+Markee10B He actually is acting it out, when Narukami reached out for Adachi, he batted his hand away and proceeded to attack Narukami, referencing the battle with him in Magatsu Inaba, then his with his acts as a puppet, he was being controlled by Ameno-Sagiri, while Adachi has his own plan, most of the time he was just a pawn to Izanami.

ThaScatman i notice at first it look like he seems innocent then further the song it looks like he insane
Looks like Adachi took classes in interpretive dancing.
+KabochAli Man, I was thinkin' the same thing. He's got a style all his own there, offbeat and awkward, very fitting for the man.

+TheHappy_P0tat0 Agree. Weird dance but it well think of every dance step has a meaning to his personality.
Exactly :D That's why Adachi's dance is my fave next to Yu's DANCE! :3
Yeah agreed I really like it when yu and adachi dance cause it looks like a dance battle which makes sense
How about Adachi lowering his hands with a forlorn look on his face, seemingly gaining back his own control for a minute, possibly hinting at him having doubts towards his game, then having his arms raised back up by the invisible puppet master, in a way that sort of implies "Your work is not finished yet."

Adatchi looks really weird when dancing. I don't think he knows what to do with himself, it'd explain why he keeps pulling all those daft faces...XD
Adachi: the calmest, most symbolic insane bastard you will ever see.
Adachi: Yosuke! I'm murdering this dance floor harder than your wannabe girlfriend!
*As Yosuke's salt is being rubbed against his burn*
That face at the end when the score results are shown.
I would have loved to see a behind the scenes of the motion capture in this game.
What kind of pisses me off about this is that he doesn't really dance... He just... gestures wildly and makes funny expressions...
+SophieTheLoaf he is an ass

Well those wild gestures and funny expressions are matching the rhythm of the music, so he is dancing...
