She has shown how amasing she can play, the best example is when she won Wuhan and Beijing back to back. I want her to be a contender at the Slams and maybe this big win is exactly what she needs.

Dementieva had no serve and that ultimately let her down. But her movement and ball striking was far superior to Pliskova. If Pliskova had better movement or a net game she could win a slam. That said I feel like a lot of this is mental at this point. I agree with you she will most likely retire slam-less.
Dinara Safina is a much better comparison. Both are tall, good ball strikers, great serves, lack movement, slamless, etc. Dementieva just retired too soon, if you ask me. She could’ve won if she would’ve played more years, like Vaidasova, Golovin, and many others.

What was the emergency to hold grand slams in the pandemic in empty stadium. when half of the top players are missing . Crowd add fuel to the matches there is no fun watching these dull matches.
Pliskova at her best was able to defeat anyone. She played great tennis at US open 2016 since then she wins max 3 tournaments every year just to stay in the top 10. Her form is gone for good.
Pliskova (no.1) loss just goes to show the lack of depth in women's tennis for the last few years. None of the top players are able to string together consistent performances throughout the season - it's like a lotto basically!

Pliskova is far less accomplished than Dementieva and I doubt she will ever achieve what Dementieva has. Dementieva had an Olympic gold medal too
