Just a notice I've been keeping bugs for about 6 years and when i was less experienced i used glue to build an enclosure and finished after 15 mins then put a mantis in the enclosure. The fumes of the glue suffocated the mantis so i recommend letting the glue dry until you can smell none of it anymore.
I was wondering of using sand for substrate for my Calcarata as they lay eggs in the substrate and using sand would make the eggs easier to find but the only sand I have is dusting powder for a chinchilla ,can I use that?

Is there anything we should avoid with their hides? I've been using cork and they've been happy with that but I wanted to give them a little more room but I'm worried the type of wood may be toxic to them. I was talking to a firned of a friend and he said he's kept them in the past but they had all died off from him introducing a type of bark that was toxic to them and I have searched and search for any info on this and I can't find a thing and now I'm paranoid about giving them a new hide.
Nah, males have flung their legs if disturbed suddenly during food changes, otherwise they are fine. When I first kept these years ago I had them a little dryer than they like during wet season and they showed more signs of aggression then. A well hydrated male will only be aggressive if startled, to defend itself 😊 otherwise they are pretty good! That's not to say you won't find a particularly defense specimen though
Hi I love ur channel, I just got macleays and aretaons on the bottom of coconut fibre substrate their is whitish web like things, I asked my reptile shop what it is they said it's prob mould, so told me to either take it out or bury it under the coco and it will die off, I will do that, they also said you may see springtails start to form. What do you think of all this? Thanks
Love the videos on Stick Insects, I have a few species myself. I use paper liners in my cages and enclosures currently, if I was to switch to a soil substrate how is the insect waste managed ?
45 tall 60wide. You won't need that much space for a few but I have a large colony. As long as you have spots to hide in the day time and enough height for moulting ur all good
So far I've not received any deaths due to the use of hot glue. But make sure it's completely dry so it won't give off any kind of fumes. Many hobbyists will use hot glue in their enclosures 😁 I hope this helps. Thanks for watching
I have been obsessed with stick insects for about 6 years when I first found one and now keep them as pets.
That's great to hear! It's awesome to find them in the wild!

Do you colect the ova or leav it in whit them?!
Have you experienced that they are aggressive towards you and are they hard to handle?

If you don't want to have babies could you coax them into laying there eggs in certain places so the eggs are easier to remove?
Certainly. Add just a dish if substrate or sand (sand is easier)
@@OldChannelBugRealms does this mean I can't have any other substrate in apart from the dish?
@@jahagkagau6061 they will lay wherever the substrate is I'm afraid
@@OldChannelBugRealms ah alright cheers

@@OldChannelBugRealms What would you recommand for 1 older female and 4 nimfs? Is 30 wide and 45 tall good enough?

@@OldChannelBugRealms Great, thanks for responding :)
@@neatopossum1702 anytime!
