Such great coordination between larynx and diaphragm. That amazing thick ringing sound that travels forward with both depth and height. Tecnica di affondo = Bel canto
Belcanto is a natural singing technique, affondo is innatural. Just think that Del Monaco needed to take lessons by another teacher (that gave him the Mask) meanwhile he was practicing with the melocchi technique (voice's depth). Corelli didn't bring much of Melocchi in his technique (see the pianissimo he can do). The little part of affondo he applied was then removed during lessons with his friend Lauri Volpi that gave him a full belcanto technique. The last 10 years of his career Franco had issues with the mask technique Volpi used to do in the high notes, so... He went again in the affondo, forced, singing, causing him more problems. And than we all know how he finished his career in Torre del Lago. Belcanto ≠ affondo
@@tarektomei546 There's not such thing as a "natural singing technique" and the right technique has to be learnt and trained. That's why despite having musical skills and good voice, many singers never make it. And by the way "affondo" occurs with the correct jaw dropping so there's nothing strange about it and it should become a necessity for correct singing.
@@frankfurter6561 please forgive my incorrect english language. I didn't mean that natural. The jaw dropping should be moderated because the bright of the sound should be found thinking horizontal (automatically make vertical resonance without efforts). It's a vertical sound found passively. The affondo actively looks for a vertical sound by forcing diaphragm and larynx down. That is, in a phoniatristic point of view, correct. But many tensions occurs when you apply that. It is the cause of poor dynamics and declaratory tone. All these "Lacks" don't belong to the Franco's singin technique and style
Absolutely glorious and magnificent!! A beautiful memory of one of the most exciting singers of all time with a totally solid and safe control. Thanks very much for posting!
A true vocal artist. Great voice made for this medium and Italian opera. Thanks for posting this. I saw him in the house at the Met several times and he sounded the same.Wonderful. Having a glass of italian wine listening to this Nothing could be better. Thanks Franco.
I first heard Franco at the Old Met about 1967, right before it was razed (most assuredly by people who didn't love opera the way I did). I was new to opera and didn't know what to expect. The opera was Romeo and Juliet by Gounod. Juliette was Mirella Freni. There are moments in life when we leave day to day consciousnesses and routines and go to a place of lasting memory. This was one of them. I sat in the Family Circle, way back where I liked to joke the usher has to give an oxygen mask. But it didn't matter one bit. I could hear Franco Corelli like he were a singing a few rows in front of me. And he didn't need a microphone! He was a big man and as handsome as any Hollywood actor. I was smitten and attended the Metropolitan for the next 50 years, at least once a year.
A great pleasure to see Corelli ten years after his Met debut so relaxed, pouring out golden tone, and obviously enjoying himself immensely. Thank you!
@@corneliaspindler6714 Some people don’t like him due to all of the scooping he does. It’s a bad habit that actually weakens the singer when done too often.
