Billy Ray Bates was the best import player in the PBA! He and I became friends when I was stationed at Clark Air Force Base in Angeles, Philippines. He's a great person and even came to the hospital at Clark to see my newborn son Narada Owens and picked him up above his head! My wife didn't follow basketball and didn't know why so many people were following him in the hallway. I would drive him to the bus terminal to return to Manila where his team was. The only downside to him was alcohol and I would have the bartender to cut him off because I was a non drinker! I haven't seen him since I left Clark in 1985. I moved back to the Philippines in November of 2017 and would love to see him again! 🙂👍⛹️♂️🏆💖
I still to this day flip flop who is the Best Import ever to play in the PBA -- Billy Ray Bates or Tony Harris. Both are just spectacular. Both should retire in Philippines and be get their Dual Citizenship.

Saw him play in Lugano Switzerland, must have been 1982 or 1983 - he looked like a man among boys, and not because of his size but his skill.

I think best pba imports is sean chambers..most accomplish import in the pba.....bates is more on highlights..
