  • The BBC has obtained exclusive evidence that special education needs (SEN) support placements significantly drop post the age of 16 for students with SEN across London.
FOI data shows that more than 13,000 SEN placements were offered to under 16s in 2019-2021. But for 16-25 year olds 2,508 placements were given in that time.
Claude, 23, from Richmond upon Thames, has been out of education since 2017, after not being granted an appropriate placement by his local education authority.
After years of tribunals with his LEA and emails to the Department for Education, Claude has now created a petition called 'Claude's SEN Law'. He wants to ensure other young people across the UK don't go through what he has.
