When I brought this up in another video another person said that fairy probably resists bug because bug is paying for the sins of u-turn, which is fucked up if true. It'd check out with fairy not being a real typing and just existing to kick the meta in the balls, though.
It definitely should be weak to bug. The type exists to counter fighting and dragon but that just made it the strongest type in both offense and defense. A weakness to U-turn wouldnt even be that bad with how much they love pairing fairy with bug resist types. If you really want to actually make fairy weaker you'd need to give it like an ice or electric weakness. The only reason ppl even run poison moves is because of fairy.

@asierx7047 breaking news the new fairy/ground legendary bingus has 5 billion special attack and speed, moonblast, earth power, and thunderbolt with sheer force and a new special 70 bp version of sucker punch
Fairy/steel isn't really that good offensively it's just so absurdly good defensively that it allows the Pokemon many opportunities to get hits off. Other combinations like ice/water (with freeze dry), ice/ground and flying/fighting are a lot better offensive pairings.
One of these days, I came across a fakemon I made when I was 11 (I was always super good with numbers, so I knew how stats worked yadda yadda, so I actually made it work). I made it as a cover legendary specifically to justify the level of power. It was less broken than SwSh Zacian-C.

Steel was nerfed not long ago in gen 6. Fairy defintely needs a nerf, and for some reason they decided Fairy should resist bug, making an already bad type even worse. There isn't even a good reason behind it.
@@floofzykitty5072 It feels like Bug should actually be Fairy's third WEAKNESS, not a resistance. If you're a tiny fairy, bugs are terrifying predators!
@floofzykitty5072 I think they just decided fairy's properties first, and then tried to figure out what theme fit it. They wanted it to beat things that were strong and lose to things that were weak, so they made it clown on dragons and die to the weak offensive types steel and poison. With that in mind, literally the only reason fairy resists bug is because u-turn is everywhere.

Not only that, in the gold/silver beta poison was super effective against dark, but they took that away too. Oh and they took away its effectiveness vs bug for good measure. WHY?? Lol
During the other metagames event which gives bonus stats to pokemon for each tier below OU they are, Tink is a beast. It's amazing how much +10 to all base stats does for it.
I think Ghost/Fairy is a better type. It not only has a defensive synergy, with its neutrality to Dark and Poison, making it weak only to the uncommon Steel and Ghost, but it also has the best offensive synergy of any type. You have to be Blissey or Grafaiai to switch in against Flutter Mane.
I think it'd be interesting to look at Pokemon forms that failed to really make a difference from their original variant. Like Stunfisk-Galar or Wugtrio. Both mons ended up serving similar roles to their originals to arguably worse degrees. I'm sure there's several more
I know this is primarily Smogon format oriented but Behemoth Blade definitely wasn't "just" a 100BP move in the grand scheme of Zacian's absurdness, not being able to even Dynamax to stomach a hit bc BB just says "lol nope" in BSS/VGC on top of everything else was so ridiculous . . .
There are arguments for flying/steel being the best defensive type. The best offensive type is either fighting/ghost for perfect coverage minus hisuian zoroark or ice/ground for being super effective on over half the pokedex and only resisted by rotoms, bronzong, and mons with water/bug and ice/bug.
I think another occurence from steel/fairy is the fact both those typings are defensively inclined with both steel leaning towards P DEF and fairy leaning towards SPE DEF, which makes for usually bulky pokemons which complements this excellent defensive typing
I always get yout notifcations but i dont watch all of them. But the one thing i always love is the way you do sponsers or ask for subscribe or just whenever you do that type of thing.

Fairy/Steel is certainly one of the best defensive typings, but for the best offensive typing, I'd go with the as-of-yet-unused combination of Fairy/Ground. Fairy hits almost everything neutrally, with Ground covering the Steel and Poison types that would resist Fairy STAB. Fairy/Ground would also be solid defensively - immunity to two types and no 4x weaknesses. Unless the Pokemon with this combination has horrible stats, a shallow movepool and/or an absolutely crippling Ability on the level of Slow Start, Defeatist or Truant, it would have a niche in OU, if not Ubers. If Xerneas had gotten Earth Power, it would have been the one to create Anything Goes, not Mega Rayquaza.
I definitely think Zacian and Zamazenta should've swapped types. Steel/Fighting type makes WAY more sense for a sword FIGHTER, and Steel/Fairy for Zamazenta makes some sense since fairies in Pokemon are usually pretty defensive.
Moonblast base 95 power on fluttermane... Fairy types are busted cause they have so many great resistances an immunity to DRAGON and have ridiculous offensive pressure
i've recently been dabbling in vgc for the first time, and in reg g i think zacian is actually really balanced and fun compared to the other restricted mons. the meta right now is most physical attackers use clear amulet to ignore intimidate, and most restricted mons abuse ridiculous spread moves, but zacian can't use an item and doesn't have a spread move so it has to work a lot harder to deal damage. i think the best set rn is protect, swords dance, behemoth, sacred sword, with high speed and hp, and to use it properly you need partners with howl or coaching to support it. you have to really work to outpace intimidate with boosts, and your offense has to be more deliberate, but outspeeding base 135 and not caring about wide guard are great if you can take full advantage.
I've been playing fusions lately. I've been using an unaware clefable registeel with calm mind and iron defense. Yes it can sweep whole teams. However, the tier is full of grounds and V create, and full of other steels. So I'm thinking of switching the steel for ghost or normal or psychic. But yeah, it's a very good typing

Zacian's powers were best in Gen 8 VGC, where he didn't care about resisted Dynamaxed folks (since Behemoth Blade doubled its base on enourmous folks). It was everywhere. Now with the nerfs, we only see the Calyrex on its preffered horse running wild. Gotta say I love the silly Klefki guy, funny lad, love running dual screens, twave and an attacking move for funsies

I feel there's a reason they haven't made this theoretical mon... If you gave it a big HP pool and even base 100 defenses with a good boosting move like curse or calm mind or bulk up... or even just cosmic power and body press... if it had any form of reliable recovery it would be an absolute menace. after a few boosts it would be totally unmanageable- you'd only be able to hit neutral unless you had a dark type move, and if it was decently bulky and able to put up good offense after a couple boosts (even if it wasn't THAT strong) with perfect neutral stab coverage and plenty of switch opportunities it would snowball through teams wayyy to easly
I think it’s funny how Zacian was completely dominant in Gen 8’s restricted VGC formats, but now in Gen 9 it’s nowhere to be seen 💀. Maybe it will be used more once the double restricted format drops
Steel/fairy is the better overall typing, but I think an argumment for best defensive typing being steel/fire can be made, simply because of the insane ammount of normal and quad resists the typing offers, like, it simply takes something else for defensive Heatran work in OU to this day without having any healing moves nor insane stats like Ting Lu/Dondozo, remove roost from skarmory and poison heal from gliscor and they suddendly become UU material, give heatran recover and it suddedly become Ubers material
I feel like when Steel Fairy was introduced it wasn't so powerful on its own. At least in my experience, bringing anything more than poison or steel type coverage for fairies really isn't worth it, and so my method for getting through Pokemon like Clefable was a strong and fast eq from lando/chomp/whoever, or switching in a fire type to tank the moonblas, and fire back with STAB. So adding steel to the typing from my context does almost nothing but add weaknesses to common fairy answers in return for weak offensive types becomes roughly useless vs you.
Fairy itself is already one of the best types in Pokemon. And Steel Fairy is definitely the best type combo in the game. Fairy generally fits in with any type in the game.
I love how in gen IX they realised that intrepid sword was OP…..but introduced abilities that halved defense or SpDef whenever you’re on the field…..like serious GF?
Honestly, I’d love to see fairy nerfed , and bug and ice buffed. Fairy not resist bug and add a weakness. Ice should resist electric and maybe water or ground Bug, not sure how exactly.
I know it’s probably lame but I love Zacian i nicknamed her after my real dog lol. I played violet about a year after it was released and used Zacian for most of my play through and it was pretty amazing. But yes bug ice is by far the best type..
Imo its steel ghost. Most combined resistances and immunities in the game along with spinblocking, trap immunity, and a better standalone dual stab. It's close though.
We still yet to see a Ground/Fairy type, and knowing gamefreak u bet it is gonna be on a either a very niche weak pokemon or in a broken one. Never in between.
Ghost/Fighting may be even better that Steel/Fairy, perhaps inherently too strong for OU. Nightmarish to switch into (only resisted by Normal/Ghost) and not bad defensively either with 2 immunities. The only 2 pokémon we had with this typing, Marshadow and Anihilape, are chilling in Ubers despite having 600 and 535 BST respectively.

I also saw tinkaton looking up ways to boost its attack.
Sponsored by Google?! Gaming.
That one guy in the anime who wanted to make a pokemon good against every type is probably responsible for fairy/steel...
Even zacian crowned holds manners to google
Crazy how even mons with this supposedly best typing will go tera water
I think fairy steel is just is really solid both offensively and deffensive, thats why its hard to go wrong with it, surely top 3 typings in the game
Fairy itself is already one of the best types in Pokemon. And Steel Fairy is definitely the best type combo in the game. Fairy generally fits in with any type in the game.
I have one fear and it's the possibility of Mega-Tinkaton with Huge Power in Legends ZA/Gen 10
Shotout to the Poison/Dark for having only 1 weakness that's easy to play around.
I love how in gen IX they realised that intrepid sword was OP…..but introduced abilities that halved defense or SpDef whenever you’re on the field…..like serious GF?
0.75x but agreed
Real rogues know this is how you best Eternatus
I think ground fairy can give it a run for its money. Not as good defensively, but the offensive potential is insane
Honestly, I’d love to see fairy nerfed , and bug and ice buffed.
Fairy not resist bug and add a weakness.
Ice should resist electric and maybe water or ground
Bug, not sure how exactly.
I know it’s probably lame but I love Zacian i nicknamed her after my real dog lol. I played violet about a year after it was released and used Zacian for most of my play through and it was pretty amazing. But yes bug ice is by far the best type..
We definitely need Fire/Fairy to be a thing.
