- Fix it guide - Vintage action figure thumb repair. You know the problem, figures that have lost their thumbs in battle. Buck Rogers, Indiana Jones, Disney's Black Hole, G.I.Joes... They all suffer this problem.

Two thumbs up for that fix...
"A good 24 hours to get hard..." My favorite excerpt from 'Grandpas Guide to Love Making'!
Another great tip. You can really stretch your budget by purchasing"broken thumb" figures and using this fix it guide. Thanks for sharing.
I have the only surviving Star Wars toy of my youth this looks to be an excellent way to fix it
Thanks for showing us the fix, I never knew that was even possible. Cheers 👍
I'm impressed that you were brave enough to put something in Indy's hand. Well done on the whole restoration!
Nice work Dave, as always.
I love Milliput - being able to shape it with wet tools makes it so easy to work with, and the fact it can be filed, drilled, and tapped when dry is another bonus.
You could also use a tiiiiny drill and drill the thump and put in some kind of metal armature before sculpting the thumb for grater durability
Awesome work as always. I agree with trying wire as a support, maybe you could try that another time?
You are absolutely brilliant!
It is cool that you are showing how to fix a Buck Rogers in any way. I remember the figures from that set were really prone to having the rubber band that held their midsection and lower body together snap, especially Wilma and Twiki.
Your always amaze me Dave.
Very nice fix! Subscription worthy!
I've been doing your technique for this repair and it works like a charm. The one step I add is to cover the thumb and part of the hand with a tiny amount of super glue so that it helps bond the apoxie and and plastic together. It means you have to paint the entire hang but it looks flawless and it makes the thumb stronger.
Another awesome video Dave.Just subscribed to your channel. Well overdue I think. Oh and thanks for emailing me the advice on the At-st head removal. You are the master!!!
+Captain Solo Thanks for subbing. Glad I could help.
I usually use a support when doing this something to hold them in place.that looks great though
Amazing repair on that thumb! I didn't even know they made a Tony Blackburn figure!
Great vid. Milliput can be smoothed with water while wet. To give a bit more stability, the putty can be spread over the hand a bit and then blended with a wet paintbrush.
great fix it guide toy polloi brilliant ive got Indiana jones. I find the gun always falls out of the hand. so I put a tiny bit of blue tack in the hand to hold the gun in place.
Ah, paint matching.. What a way to spend an afternoon.
Totally awesome man!!! Your good.
Great tips. Thanks.
Fantastic.
great idea and job well done
Wow I have a Kenner Indiana jones figure and I will try this thanks!
I could have used this circa early 1983.
Nice work, as always... :)
Perfect for my Indiana Jones
Black hole figures did come with weapons, at least the red robots did, some sort of silver pistol I recall.
NICE!
The repaired thumb is better than the factory
It looks like trying to repair a GI Joe with a broken crotch, might be a similar fix. Have you ever tried that?
I drilled a hole and used a paperclip to mold around it.
I fixed the thumb on my vintage Luke x wing pilot....with LEGO! 😉
great video!!!i subbed!!:)
Can you also use this concept to do whole hands and fingers as well as thumbs?
One way of making them a bit stronger is to use a really fine drill and put very thin wire in the hole and glue it in place then insert the wire into the miliput piece and it will give the milliput some support.
+Mark Moore You might be able to do that on Indy. Bucks hand is way to small and the plastic is brittle.
Toy Polloi Yeah they might be a bit too small. Have you ever seen Glenn Webb's videos? He did some really interesting customs with milliput.
Great video by the way. You did an excellent job repairing those figures.
Don't forget Kenner's Butcn & Sundance figures, they're awesome. :)
Beautiful. I've got a Star Trek III Scotty (G.I. Joe style figure) that I've always regretted breaking and losing the thumb. Do you do a wet scraping to shape or just straight dry bladework?
Really excellent job. Any idea how strong they are?
Great fix..¡ you know how to fix or where to get the T-shape hook on Gijoe figures..? make a vid on that please.... regards
Really excellent job. Is the bond pretty strong?
Hi! I like to ask, I got a cracked crotch piece of a vintage 3/34 joe figure. What the best way to safely reinforced the crack crotch to strengthen and avoid it from snapping off? Without adding a pin. Can you also recommend a type of glue that you use that is also can be find and also available in asia? Siince I can't find the brands you use there since they are not familiar with the type of glue you mentioned. Thanks
Hi Dave! I want to make a streets of Cairo custom Kenner figure using the torso of the 2009 Hasbro whip action Indiana with out jacket and the bottom from the new retro Indy . Do you think the torso can be cut out? How do u think it’s the best way to separate them? Thank u ! 😊
I'm sure they can be. Not something over tried before. Cheers
One thing that might work: luthiers often use super glue and baking soda to repair broken guitar nuts. It's as strong as concrete on a small scale like that.
is this still the best way to go
These days I would insert a bit of wire/paperclip to add some extra support. Drill a small hole to insert that into the hand first.
I guess you could actually use it to do whole hands, feet or any broken part of a figure ive also seen video's on customising figures with this stuff, for the price its a great product and comes in many colours, now why didn't you mention that mr polloi?
Green stuff remains flexible after curing. Milliput will break off.
80s GI Joe are the worst for damaged thumbs, ugh. The center crotch area snaps away too easily, as well.
Just curious, does the thumb hold up on Indy when using the quick-draw action? I am wondering how strong that stuff is after it dries because it seems as if it doesn't have much to anchor onto. Are you gentle when putting a gun in the hand?
+ianA You can use the feature. But these will never be that strong. More for display.
Thanks for this video @toypolloi. Have you ever done hand “transplants” from other figures? Is that hard? I feel like that would be easier for me achieve cos of my limited skills in this area?
I have a video coming up that may be of interest. Casting some hands. It will be a long in a few weeks.
@@toypolloi ah good news. Can’t wait to see it :)
@@toypolloi do you have any suggestion for getting a nice clean cut if I were to cut a hand off another figure for a transplant?
A razor saw would help. Check out the tool shop on toypolloi.com cheers
@@toypolloi thanks.
do you know any websites to find incomplete action figures like arms I'm looking for 1 arm of jigsaw action figure lol?
Are tbose screws for the shoulder ribbit ?
No, just rivets.
Can you fix or restore the star wars sonic landspeeder? Thank you
I don't have one, but if I find one I will. Cheers
I have 3 sets and I have tried to repair them ..may need motor?the one that runs the sonic part does not work very well.
+Dean Birch Your lucky to have so many. There must be enough parts there to make a good one and work out what is wrong with the others.
it's been a while since I messed with them, I have one on display but the others are taken apart waiting for me to fix them.. lol
I miss these clunky, close resembling the character figures
Check out super7 output. Should be right up your alley!
Both thumbs on my Fonzie figure are broken
Wayne Daly ehhhhy
Sure it's not indy's gloves
least you weren't all thumbs fixing them...
Where to buy this Millyput clay??
Model shops, ebay, or other online stores. It's very common.
Thank you very much!!
Time to fix goku
Just don't lose a thumb
I don't this with wire and UV resin
Amazing.
