Great to see you back Mate Been wondering where You been hiding lol lol Think you're sold me on A striker 7 was thinking of getting a 4 but don't think The old eyes would see the screen that well. Lol You'll have to do a video on the sounder to show us all how to use it when you get back on the water. Great stuff mate 👍
yeah its been tough that's for sure, Winter doesn't faze me that much, just gotta wear more layers... I have had a striker 4 for a while but the chance came up to get this bigger unit, so why not. Hoping to get out tomorrow and put it through its paces on the werribee river see what i can find
Good Watch. I recently Put a Garmin Striker Plus 7SV on my Hobie PA12 with the Lowrance ready mount it came with. ClearVU and SideVu did not work the one time I took it out. Would this Guardian Mount be the Fix?
Thanks Mate, The sideVU and clearVu need to be clear of the hull, I mounted mine inside the guardian first and they didnt work, so then I put it on the outside and worked out how to use the guardian mount properly and haven't had an issue since, The guardian mount should fix the problem your having
thanks mate, yeah its a cracker little unit. I recon it would survive, the connections at the back are pretty water tight. I fish in the rain and havn't had an issue with it yet
Hi Steve, looking at this garmin model, (Striker 7SV) wanting to upgrade from a lowrance hook 2 4" for my yak. whats the side scan like? Are u marking fish or just good for structure, ( as ive been told) Ive never had a sounder with sidescan. In theory im wanting to scan a wider stretch of water and this would definately help in skinny water. Practically though id dont know if it would perform to expectations. Your advice would be appreciated.
Honestly, its a great unit, I dont use the side scan as much as i thought i would. It does mark up fish quite easily, the side scan feature would be more use in skinny water, smaller rivers and streams. I mainly fish out in the bay and it still picks up schools of fish, but nothing like the down scan clear view.
its a very simple system to use. I have a combo of Side scan, traditional down scan and maps so i know where my way points are when drifting for a feed. in all honesty this is money well spent.
Hey Steve, I’m in the process of looking at this sounder for my 2014 PA 12 im not to sure if your familiar with these older model yaks that have the mount underneath ready to fit I’ve been told that there may be mods you need to do to fit the Garmin transducer underneath ?
not 100% sure mate, I had a quick look at a video regarding the cover underneath, it was similar to my old yak. it should be able to be mounted to it, with a little bit of tinkering.
whats that thing called that u use to connect cables together and then heat up ? Also what did u do with the blue and brown cable out of the power cord ? Mine came with no instructions
G'day, they are called heat shrink self solder butt splice connectors, the blue and brown cables correct me if im wrong, but pretty sure are for if your connecting 2 sounders together on the same circuit or other marine electronics all i did with mine was put silicon on the ends to water proof them and cable tied them to the other wire to keep them out of the way
Hi like the video I have one on the way. Could I ask you what the heated connection at 5.43 is exactly and where I can get one of these I'n going to add an fav battery but have no solder kit thanks..
thanks mate, you can get them from bunnings and jaycar electronics, or the cheaper version on ebay. if you type into google "solder splice heatshrink" you will see what i mean
I made it myself with a rail blazr attachment. drilled a hole in the bottom of the holder and put a bolt through it. I can send you pictures if you like, get in contact through social media.
hey mate, I run this sounder with 2 different types of batteries, depending on how long im fishing. I can get 5-6 hours with a FPV 7amp 12v battery. but if I go away camping I use the FPV 50amp battery
If you could load the proper Navionics maps on to this thing, it would be great. But you can’t, so it’s not. I wish I’d bought a different unit. One with real maps and no side scan. Side scan is a gimmick.
@@nicholasmartinez147 I would look at spending a little more and getting the Raymarine unit with proper charts and the 3D mapping transducer. In fact that’s exactly what I’m going to buy.
Great to see you again mate
Hey, thanks mate, its been a tough few months thats for sure
Nice set-up just ordered garmin 75sv uhd echomap to link to my 95sv
my cousin uses the 9SV on his boat, loves it
Great to see you back

nice configuration. how water resistant is that Garmin? If you were to roll would the Garmin survive?
thanks mate, yeah its a cracker little unit. I recon it would survive, the connections at the back are pretty water tight. I fish in the rain and havn't had an issue with it yet
Thanks for the video. How do I search online to find those welding point clear shrink tubes? Thanks David
Hi david, look em up on ebay mate, search for Heat shrink solder connector tubes. you should find them pretty easy, they are money well spent.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. 👍🏼
One little piece you did not mention the little black piece where does it go
which little black piece are you referring too ? The round piece ?
did you attach anything to the yellow connector on the back of the head unit. Instructions say it's chassis ground?
nah i didnt find any yellow connector on the back of my unit.
@@Fishingwithsteve 3:13 in your video. Yellow thingy on the back.
Quick question. So after using this finder for a while. What is your honest experience
its a very simple system to use. I have a combo of Side scan, traditional down scan and maps so i know where my way points are when drifting for a feed. in all honesty this is money well spent.

What kind of battery do you recommend?

How about some closed caption or someone you can understand.
I would, but not sure how to do closed caption

I agree with you on the side scan option. If I had my time over I would spend less and get the CV instead.
@@Fishingwithsteve yep, me too. I’m kinda disappointed with it. I think there’s better units available for less money.
Well, what would you recommend with the same screen size?
