It’s very important to filter out as much smoke as possible and replace it with fresh air excited to watch glad to see the new office is really being put to the test
I've just updated the description of this video with some additional notes. There is no question that this system would be overkill for most home applications. For one, working within the constraints of a residential home would be challenging, especially when it comes to creating the necessary ductwork. I am actually working on building a home (spec build), and I think that I am going to integrate a strong, commercial air exhaust system into my study to create as much negative pressure as possible and, essentially, pull fresh air from the rest of the house while venting the smoke. I'll then pair that with a good consumer molecular carbon filter, like the IQ Air MultiGas (amzn.to/3fQwdqT). What I like about this over the RabbitAir is that the unit uses actual carbon canisters. This means that you are getting MORE CARBON. My problem with the RabbitAir and other consumer air filters is that they contain almost no carbon... no carbon means no odor filtration. And when it comes to filtering odors, there is no question that simply replacing smoke with fresh air is your best bet. Most consumer filters don't exchange the air enough to make much of a difference when it comes to odor. This is why exchanging with fresh air is so important.
@@kirbyallison Wow thanks for the reply I’m sure we would all love to see the system that you put in your home I’m currently also trying to find a solution for ventilation in my own smoking lounge in my house that I am currently building
Love the Halfwheel reviews and the video series on humidors is great. This was a great topic and the attention to detail on the complications of filtrations was outstanding. Thanks Kirby.
Brilliant system you've designed there. I love the overkill factor of it. Allows for plenty of headroom in terms of capability and I can't help but agree with you that it will result in less headache in the long run as the expectation for consumer grade products would be nowhere near that of commercial grade equipment standards.
First the pinstripe suit is just awesome! The question is what was the point of the incredibly loud classical music while showing the ceiling? It seems somewhat ridiculous to talk about how quiet the thing pulls air up, show the ceiling and then in post production adding music that drowns out everything.
The beauty of this system is that the filters and carbon canisters do not need to be replaced for two years. My old system requires the carbon to be switched out almost every 6-9 months at a cost of $600. This is a little more, but less often. Also one of the benefits of the larger, commercial unit.
@@kirbyallison I work in the air filtration industry. Nothing against Camfil (although I’m team synthetic not glass) I’d definitely not purchase spares from them. Their products are good but they are VERY expensive and same spec and performance products are widely available from other manufacturers that will fit your system. It’s a very impressive setup I’ll give you that, nice to see some proper equipment!
My home office is the same size, and it connects to our master bedroom with a separating door. In your experience, does your rabbit air do the trick? I'm wondering if I need to remove the interior door and completely seal off my office from the home (I have a secondary entrance directly from my garage). Any input is appreciated.
Kirby certainly knows how to dress like a multi-millionaire. Props! 💯. I really, need to invest in at least one stunning suit for special occasions. AC/DC tee-shirts and cargo shorts are my daily attire. But it feels good to dress up occasionally.
nice you can do that. My wife makes me smokes outside. it gets cold in the winter. i envy you soo much. we do have a green house. sometime use it when it rains.
Man I'm just out here sitting on a log in the bush next to my house. hahaha I'd love an inside area. That said, the weather and lack of light pollution were I live makes looking up at the stars particularly nice with a cigar in hand.
Wow you actually have a suit I like for more than just how it’s put together- it’s a bolder fashion statement than you usually make Wide lapel and candy stripe- really nice choice The only thing I wouldn’t have done is the waist coat, I think it muddies the silhouette
Very informative and helpful. Where did the make-up air come from? If you exhaust 2000 cfm, then that air has to come from somewhere. What climate is your office building in, too? Curious, as I am in the process of designing a cigar room in my house, and am having to bring in make-up air at 100F, cool it down to 55F then reheat it so I don't overcool the space. That is a special unit, but you didn't have one of those. You used a ductless mini-split, which I also am looking at, but I don't need both. I'd love to read your response. Thanks.
It would have perhaps been better to have return of purified air delivered at floor level, thus supporting a draft for warm smoke air to rise up to ceiling extraction registers. But it was very quiet Kirby, I suspect quieter than the split-AC unit operating at 75% capacity?
We certainly considered this. Unfortunately, the duct work would have been too complicated for our studio. But if I ever installed this in a house (and I would LOVE to one day), I would definitely return the air at the floor! That would certainly be ideal.
This is special acoustic tile that helps baffle the noise from the warehouse. We also have 6” of insulation on top of it to help further sound proof the studio.
Kirby - Curious to know why you chose to go the filtration route opposed to the exhaust route? I was recently hanging with Gary Kolsaire at The Tobacco Shop in Ridgewood, NJ who has a Davidoff Lounge. His recommendations were more on the exhaust route for their lounge. My friends are always concerned about preserving the air conditioning, my route has just been for exhaust and running the AC heavier during smoke sessions. But, we've got a new studio space that's 75,000 cu. ft. so I'm looking for new approaches. Also, where did you place the duct vents to the CamCleaner in relation to your smoking position? And lastly, was there a purpose behind the cigar selections during the Hot Box Session? I noticed only you were smoking a Habana.
If you have a ton of air to pull from, the exhaust route is definitely the easiest route. But you have to have a very large volume of air to pull from. In the case of the studio, we have to keep the door closed during filming, so exhaust wouldn’t work for us. That said, I did install an exhaust fan to help bring in fresh air after smoking. However, it also vents all of our beautiful A/C.
@@kirbyallison The venting of the AC is always the difficult part of exhausting - and here on the East Coast, it also means venting the heat during the winter! Thanks for making the video showing us the system and taking the moment to reply!
Hey Kirby! Any way you could help a guy out? I ordered from Montefortuna for the very first time because you suggested them on multiple occasions. When I received my package, one of my boxes was riddled with mold! When I tried reaching out, they will only give me a $10 credit! Could you use your magic and help me out somehow? I love your cigar videos and have been binging them the last few weeks!
When the Camfil Camclean filter is running, we really don't need negative air pressure because (1) the room is very well-sealed at the door and (2) the room has an independent, self-contained HVAC system via the mini-split. The air exhaust system is really meant to exchange fresh air overnight. The only limitation of this particular design is that the HVAC does not provide a source for fresh air. This is solved by the air exhaust system.
One word… Rabbitair. We have 2 that cover 2,000sq.ft yet in a room that is only 750sq.ft. Plus windows open. We get zero smell issues or impurities in the air
I can appreciate good air filtration units but I sure am glad I don't smoke. Cigar smoking was one of the things that cut my grandfather's life short. I will take the longer life and spend the 20k having more fun with my family and friends.

If a privately owned business had such an effective utility (even restaurants) then why should the law not allow them to have a smoking establishment? (Personally I don't think it's any of the government's business at all).

I can't even begin to think about smoking my cigar without a $20,000USD air filtration system
An alternative use of that money that solves the same problem: "here's 20 grand, stop complaining about the smell"
