Fun fact. Ian McDiarmid played the emperor in “ Return of the Jedi” meaning he returned nearly 20 years later to play a younger version of the same character
"Obi-Wan is sounding so much like the Ben I know." That would make Ewan McGregor so happy; each movie his goal was to get closer and closer to Alec Guinness' Ben Kenobi. He wanted to not copy but compliment his performance so we could easily buy the gradual transition. Obi-Wan is easily my favorite character.
Now if you watch the Scene in ROTJ when Vader turns on the emperor, you realize his pain. He couldn’t save his mother, he couldn’t save the woman he loved, but he can save his son. That moment made the sequels tie into the OT so much more.
One thing that was eye opening, once we finally saw Anakin's fall, was how different it was than I think most of us were expecting. It wasn't some cool or badass moment. It was a sad moment. The point Lucas wanted to make with Anakin was that ultimately, he wasn't some cool, sexy figure of evil. He's ultimately a sad and pathetic figure. He got tricked into going into the darkside. I think as a kid, it didn't really hit me, because I would think anyone older than me is an adult, but if you look at Anakin's age, he was like under 25 when all this shit hit. He's barely an adult. Think about how when you around that age, and how gullible sometimes we are. How someone like a used car salesman could con you, make you feel like they're your friend, have your best interests at heart. Now imagine there's this Chancellor who basically becomes your father figure, because Obi Wan refuses to completely trust you. And he's (Palpatine) is always the supportive parental figure, telling him he's so great, that the Jedis are wrong for not thinking the same, etc etc etc. Ultimately when you spell it out, that was what paved the way to Anakin's fall. He was looking for a father figure, and the only one offering him that was Palpatine.
Also the theme “Dual of the Fates” is about Anakin’s fate. So if Qui-Gon survived, he would’ve been the father figure, causing him to never fall the dark side.
Something really cool about the trilogy villains is that each one of them was an aspect of Anakin's future. Maul was his hate, Count Dooku was his detachment from the Jedi order, and Grievous showed his transformation from man to machine.
Anakin/Darth Vader also performed the same duties as Grievous. Besides commanding the droid army Grievous was basically a hitman/enforcer for Dooku. Vader would later lead the 501st and also act as an enforcer for Darth Sidius.
Palpatine said "He's too dangerous to be kept alive" and it messed with Anakin's head. So when Windu says it, Anakin is not having any more of that type of thinking.
In that moment from Anakin's point of view there was no difference between the Jedi and the Sith, except that the Sith claimed he knew how to save Padmé.
A couple of notes on the clones. 1: The clones had little choice in the matter. A little Kamino engineering, with a chip in their heads forced them into it. 2: The clones were mostly phased out after the war. So Stormtroopers and Clones mostly aren't the same thing.
There is another story about the Clone Army. The flaw of Clones, because of the demand of genetic growth acceleration, the Clones were dying out. Whether this was intentional or a bit of oversight in production of Clones, the Clone Army of the Republic was phased out completely by the Emperor. The Imperial troops of every corps began pressing citizens into service, or have those willing to serve join the Academy. As like Han and some of Luke's friends.
The chip is just for people who can't handle the fact that clones were already cold blooded genetic designs instead of that kid friendly version from that pointless TCW show
1) i hate the chips, dave filoni protecting his characters from guilt. the idea that they are just loyal due to regular indoctrination is a much better parallel to the rise of real authoritarianism and real falls of democracies.'but they wouldn't betray their friend they fought alongside for 3 years!' go read some actual history, plenty of people were willing to betray their ww1 trench brothers and blood relatives in the Russian civil war in the name of their ideological loyalties. plenty of people were willing to betray their civil war buddies and their blood relatives in peacetime soviet union in the name of their ideological loyalties. plenty of people were willing to betray their ww1 buddies and their blood relatives in the rise of the nazis in the name of their ideological loyalties. plenty of people betrayed and still betray their family in 'communist' china. 2)also silly lore, it makes more sense to do both, and in older lore they did both. but for some reason they decided to retcon this. once again probably to distance filoni's pressious characters from the empire...
Anakin is the "chosen one" he does bring "balance" to the force. It takes about 20+ more years. But he literally kills the emperor and saves his son. Redeeming his soul before death. And destroying the most powerful Sith
This whole "one who will return balance to the Force" was such a red flag. The Jedi were in power, the Sith were in hiding. The only way for that equation to become balanced is the Jedi to be in hiding and the Sith to be in power.
@@o0pinkdino0o well there is also balance at the end of #3 there are 2 jedi, Yoda and Ben, and 2 Sith vader and emperor.... pretty balanced... I never understood why when there were hundreds of Jedi and one or to Sith in hiding that the Jedi thought Balance was a good thing.
I know that its a time sink but the Clone Wars animated series is excellent and REALLY expands everything and makes Anakins fall from grace even worse. We see Anakin at his peak, we see the mechanics on the Clones and why they betrayed the Jedi so fast, we see the politics of the War, and how both sides were manipulated into allowing the Empire to form. So good.
For Order 66 they have inhibitor chips in their brains that make them comply with certain orders. Order 66 brands the Jedi traitors and subject to execution on the spot. The clones regretted it afterwards considering they couldn’t control themselves but they could still remember doing it.
Holy fucking spoilers batman, you know just fuck Shanelle if she ever decides she wants to watch The Clone Wars right? You should be ashamed you posted this along with all the people that liked the comment. Sorry that you got spoiled liked this Shanelle in case you wanted to give the Clone Wars a try! :(((
Fun fact, I'm surprised wasn't in the trivia: in the scene were Anakin enters a room full of Younglings and one of them says: "there are too many if them, what are we going to do". You can see the child kind of backing away when Anakin lights up his saber. What happened was that Hayden suddenly said:"Boo" and the kid got scared 😁

@@Wolfer1OOO Why is it a "fun fact"? It's not enough to say something is a fact and it's fun just because you think it is. It has to be generally accepted that it's fun and it's a fact. I am a filmmaker myself, and I don't find it fun, so that alone voids your generalization. So please, why is what you say a "fun fact"? What are the factors that make it fun"
Padme and Anakin's interaction on Mustafar is so sad. Anakin is so desperate and scared, especially when he says he can overthrow the Chancellor. You can hear the fear in his voice, because he sees that Padme is in more danger than she was before he sided with Palpatine. It always felt like Anakin saw he was getting closer and closer to losing her, and you can see that this is someone with PTSD terrified that he's still helpless and is going to lose the person he loves most again.
just a reminder anakin is only 22-23 in this movie, hes been in war since 19 he wasnt looking to obtain power for the sake of power, he wanted to save his wife and child and ended up being manipulated and didnt realize it until it was too late also the clones were more slaves than double agents, bred and trained for war with neural implants to make sure they follow certain orders, they had no idea order 66 was a thing, at least not to the actual extent
Yeah it's too bad that folks like you and I that watch Clone Wars get all this context but those that don't take the time to watch it don't Clone Wars is amazing . Especially if you like the story of the main saga.
Star Wars nerds like myself knew from the beginning that Palpatine was the Sith Lord. I had the "Emperor Palpatine" action figure way back when. You couldn't buy it in stores at the time. I think I had to mail off a bunch of cereal box tops to get it.
Um no? I’d say it’s a rather mediocre film with an unnecessary plot and a couple of cool scenes. A couple memorable characters and a whole bunch of nothing characters. Barely worth the watch. Really shouldn’t even waste the time on it if it wasn’t for that one end scene.
I'm flabbergasted that Shanelle did not realized that Palpatine was the Emperor from the OT. Long time fans are sure to agree. But it made me laugh every time she made an erroneous prediction.
Yep, I could tell Palpatine was the Emperor when I first saw Episode I in the theaters as a 13 year old, so it always strikes me as a bit odd that so many adult reactors don't pick up on it.
Though, I believe in the original theatrical version of "Empire Strikes Back " another actor played the Emperor and Ian Mcdiarmid was cast in "Return of the Jedi " and then was brought in to redo the Emperor's part in "Empire " for the Special Edition.
Emperor Palpatine's name first appears in the prologue to the novelization for the original film Star Wars (A New Hope). In fact pretty much the whole prequel story is laid out in the two pages of this prologue . If you read the original novelizations of the original films the name Palpatine is there it's just never mentioned in the movies. So it was never really a mystery if you knew. It was just a matter of getting the details and seeing it play out. This is the prologue: ANOTHER galaxy, another time. The Old Republic was the Republic of legend, greater than distance or time. No need to note where it was or whence it came, only to know that… it was the Republic. Once, under the wise rule of the Senate and the protection of the Jedi Knights, the Republic throve and grew. But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, there appear those evil ones who have greed to match. So it was with the Republic at its height. Like the greatest of trees, able to withstand any external attack, the Republic rotted from within though the danger was not visible from outside. Aided and abetted by restless, power-hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic. He promised to reunite the disaffected among the people and to restore the remembered glory of the Republic. Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace. Soon he was controlled by the very assistants and boot-lickers he had appointed to high office, and the cries of the people for justice did not reach his ears. Having exterminated through treachery and deception the Jedi Knights, guardians of justice in the galaxy, the Imperial governors and bureaucrats prepared to institute a reign of terror among the disheartened worlds of the galaxy. Many used the imperial forces and the name of the increasingly isolated Emperor to further their own personal ambitions. But a small number of systems rebelled at these new outrages. Declaring themselves opposed to the New Order they began the great battle to restore the Old Republic. From the beginning they were vastly outnumbered by the systems held in thrall by the Emperor. In those first dark days it seemed certain the bright flame of resistance would be extinguished before it could cast the light of new truth across a galaxy of oppressed and beaten peoples… From the First Saga Journal of the Whills “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Naturally they became heroes.” Leia Organa of Alderaan, Senator
I swear I remember Shanelle knowing when she watched A New Hope, that the Emperor's name was Palpatine. I'll have to go back and watch it again, but I am sure she referenced it in the reaction.
"would hardcore fans watch a 5 hour cut of this?" Hardcore fans would definitely watch you react to the Clone Wars TV series to set up for the Mandalorian. Not likely due to it being a TV series and youtube reaction, but worth a shot. Gives you everything you liked in the prequels, but more
Jesus, leave it alone! How many rabid fanbois are going to insist people react to the Clone Wars animated series to "get" The Mandalorian? Millions of folks enjoyed that series just fine without knowing a damn thing about that series.
@@Caseytify And at least half of the most impactful moments in the show require you to be familiar with other parts of Star Wars media, including TCW and Rebels.
"They're always slicing hands in these movies". Yes, I have often joked that George Lucas had to name his creation "Star Wars" because his first choice was already taken: "A Farewell To Arms".
you know, my girlfriend made that same hand slicing comment and came to the conclusion that there is almost no choice, when you fight a force user. if you just take away his lightsaber, or even put him in cuffs (with Grievous on the bridge)....they'll force pull the sword to themselves, cut the cuffs and now you have problem. Every time Vader disarmed Luke in Empire, Luke just force pulled his saber and got back to work. so how DO you defeat a lightsabre wielding Jedi? 1.)take his hand (s) 2.)suspend him, like Dooku did Obi on Geonosis 2.)freeze him in carbonite
I always liked that after their wedding in Episode II, R2 is now with Anakin and 3P0 is now with Padmé when they were originally owned by each other. Seems the droids basically were their wedding gifts to each other and that's why 3P0 got the gold finish since he now serves as Padmé's butler while R2 is Anakin's assistant during his military service, since each is much better suited to serve their original owner's spouse.
When Anakin Skywalker blasts his way through a field of debris, you’ll notice on closer inspection (and even in HD, it’s hard to spot) that spinning out of the wreckage of one exploding ship is quite literally a kitchen sink. This was obviously included just for fun, but you can’t say Lucas didn’t throw everything into this sequence.
Lucas does things like that.. he even used C3-PO and R2-D2 as Hieroglyphs in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. They appear on the pillars as Sallah and Indy are working to remove the Ark from its stone casing.
One cool thing you didn't read during trivia: when they filmed Anakin taking out his lightsaber to kill the younglings, Hayden Christensen actually screamed "boo!". This is why one of the kids flinches a little at 27:31.
@@justluca787 Solo was pretty decent, not as good as Rogue One but it’s still a solid movie. And in my opinion I enjoyed TFA, TLJ and TROS are just meh/below average to me
Clone Wars, the series, makes Anaken’s turn hurt that much more. He was legendary. He stood in front of his brothers in battle and treated them all as indispensable. He never asked them to do anything that he, himself, wouldn’t do. Brutal fall from grace…
i mean thats already shown in the opening of episode 3 when he wants to go back for his clones (and the fact he leads them from the front in the temple attack)
26:26 the Clone troopers and Storm troopers are completely different, the Clones are programmed to kill the jedi and are made from the dna of Jango Fett while the Stormtrooper are just regular humans trained to serve the Empire
@@mysticsaxophone4181 And before the clones started dying off because of their growth acceleration they probably trained the first non clone stormtroopers.
"The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural." Gives me chills every time. Love that opera scene. Hey, Shanelle! Well, you got wise to Palpatine before the reveal but still had a great reaction! Lucas provided visual and vocal cues since "Phantom Menace" that Palpatine and Sidious were one and the same. Ian McDiarmid plays the Emperor in all the Star Wars films in which he appears. He's the one character having a total blast throughout the prequels because he's pulling everybody's strings! His seduction of Anakin is masterful. Chronologically, "Solo" is the next to see, then "Rogue One", then "The Mandalorian" live-action series follows the Classic three, then the Sequel trilogy. See the films in that order to complete the Skywalker Saga then go back to the live-action series, then the three animated series, "Clone Wars", "Bad Batch" and "Rebels". There are revelations in "The Mandalorian" that will make you curious to see their origins in the animated shows afterwards. The absolute best line of the Prequel trilogy goes to Natalie Portman: "So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause." Wookiees live for hundreds of years! In "Revenge of the Sith", Chewbacca is 181 years old! It is a popular belief that Padme's life force was drained out of her and channeled into Anakin by Palpatine which is why her death and his re-birth are juxtaposed by Lucas. Therefore, Palpy is directly responsible for the death of the person he convinced Anakin he could save prompting his betrayal of the Jedi in the first place! A very cruel manipulation. One of the Jedi Order's problems is that they had become ossified by dogma and had lost touch with their true purpose. This made them vulnerable to manipulation by the Sith and blind to their own shortcomings. Iconoclasts like Qui-Gon sought esoteric knowledge beyond ordained teachings to plumb deeper truths and were viewed as troublesome for suggesting the Order had become complacent and stagnant. The knowledge Yoda imparts to Obi-Wan at the end is his discovery of the path to immortality. His spiritual journey is chronicled in the animated "Clone Wars" when Liam Neeson returns as Qui-Gon Jinn's spirit to instruct Yoda in the deepest mysteries of the Force. Jedi immortality manifests as the Force-ghosts you see in the Classic trilogy. This was an ability unknown to the Order until Qui-Gon contacts Yoda which is why there are no Force-ghosts in the Prequel trilogy. The Jedi are all but exterminated by Order 66 much like how the Knights Templar were rounded up on a single day, Friday the 13th, in October 1307, by order of the French King Philip IV in a series of coordinated, simultaneous arrests. Emperor Palpatine initiated a smear campaign to vilify the Jedi and expunged any mention of them from the historical record. Philip IV did the same to the Templars demonizing them with false allegations of larceny, murder, sexual perversion, sedition and Satanism that led to their mass burning at the stake with the blessing of the Papacy! Palpy achieved control of a galaxy with his scheme while Philip was simply dodging the crushing debt he owed the Order! The clones are tragic pawns in Palpatine's scheme. They were bred by the Republic and were loyal to their creators serving through thick and thin with their Jedi Generals. The animated "Clone Wars" does a magnificent job of individualizing the troopers. However, they were engineered with a fail-safe to force them to obey executive decisions without question. Initiating Order 66 flips the switch in their brains forcibly turning them against the Jedi whom they previously would have died for. It's a horrifying betrayal not least of which to the clones themselves. Although the Separatist leadership was led by Count Dooku, they weren't privy to the collusion between Dooku and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Each Sith Lord led a faction in the Clone Wars to play both sides against each other creating chaos they could manipulate to their personal advantage! The populations of the worlds which aligned with one faction or the other truly believed in their respective causes which were socioeconomic and geopolitical. The layman had no idea he was just a pawn in Palpatine's grand scheme. With the Jedi exterminated, the greatest threat to his plan was taken off the board and he sent Vader to dispose of the Separatist leadership so he could consolidate power over the organizations they represented. The Separatist worlds relied on the support of those industries and institutions so those worlds would fall in line once those support systems were firmly in the Emperor's grip. The japor snippet pendant Amidala was buried wearing was the same one Anakin carved for her in "Phantom Menace". Senator Bail Organa orders C-3PO's mind to be wiped but R2-D2's CPU is left intact. Artoo REMEMBERS EVERYTHING!
I just watched all 6 of your reactions to Star Wars. To go from your first thoughts of not wanting to watch them because you thought they would be cheesy, to seeing the excitement on your face from getting to see Luke and Leia, was a true joy and put a smile on an old man’s face. Thank you. ❤
I know it sounds like a cliché but when I saw this with my mates in the cinema the whole place went deathly silent and so cold when Vader took his first breath in the helmet. Still gives me goosebumps today.

George Lucas was asked how Anakin got his scar inbetween Episodes II and III, and George answered "He fell in the shower." I'm sure many different comics or Clone Wars episodes attempted to explain it since, but this is the true canon in my mind.
My favourite bit of trivia about this movie is that there's a throwaway line by anakin (you're shorter than I expected) when he sees grievous for the first time. When they then did the animated clone wars series they kept having to have roundabout stupid reasons why the main antagonist and main protagonist kept just not meeting each other 😂
Yes it was filmed during Episode 2 as cost cutting measure so they didnt go to Tunisia for Episode 3 The scene when Obi Wan gives Luke to Beru was filmed in 2001 And the scene with Beru and Owen overlooking Tatooine was shot on Bluescreen stage in 2004
Yes, the weapon they were talking about was the death star. They had a hologram of it. Grievous is a cyborg. Part robot part alien (kaleesh specifically). He coughs because his lungs are irritated by his implants. In pre disney purchase Legends material, it’s because Mace Windu crushed his chest with the Force. Palpatine’s favorite soda? Mountain Dew-it! I mean if you check who plays the Emperor and Palpatine it’s not exactly a secret 😂 Anakin got the scar during the war “Has no jedi ever had fear???” You’re seeing the prequel jedi’s flaws No, Palpatine is not Anakin’s father. Neither genetically or through the force. And no a comic did not confirm he is, a Lucasfilm storygroup member explicitly said that was not the intention. George doesn’t want Anakin’s true origin revealed, even decided not to include a Palpatine line of him saying he was his father in a way. Though in Legends (which George was largely uninvolved with) the Force created Anakin in response to Plagueis messing around with midichlorians “You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master.” “What?” “SAY WHAT AGAIN!” Anakin is the real chosen one. He turned back to the light and killed the Emperor, destroying the sith Anakin in the last movie: I will even learn to stop people from dying! Palpatine in this movie: He could even keep the ones he cared about...from dying. Anakin: SAY MORE RIGHT NOW! Yup. It’s never explicitly said, but Sidious was indeed Plagueis’s apprentice. The term for the species is varactyl but it is a lizard like creature Jedi can love, they just shouldn’t loves selfishly, which Anakin does Mace Windu about Sidious “He’s too dangerous to be left alive!” Palpatine about Dooku at the start of the movie “He was too dangerous to be kept alive.” Imagine how that messed with Anakin’s head. Sam Jackson has said that he’s open to returning as Mace What? He’s had the black clothes. Like the whole time. Clones served the empire for a short time and then were phased out for regular human reruits and conscripts. Those are stormtroopers Some of your questions are answered by the Clone Wars show. The longer one. Jango and Boba wear Mandalorian armor. Armor made and worn by mandalorian people. So no, The Mandalorian isn’t about Palpatine I’m sorry. He puts on the hood, shoots lightning, becomes Vader’s master, has that ugly ass face, and you still don’t connect that he’s the emperor? He cut off his legs _and_ his remaining arm A long lived fan theory is that Padme died because Palpatine used the Force to siphon her life energy into Vader. There’s been nothing confirming it. Also, dying of a broken heart is a real thing. It happened to Carrie Fisher’s mom shortly after Carrie passed. Yes, Anakin needs to stay in the suit. It keeps him alive. Yup, Obi learns from Qui Gon how to become a force ghost Only 3PO got his mind wiped Technically Anakin’s fall started once he was inducted into the jedi order. A flawed order he often disagrees with, a teacher who wasn’t ready to be one, and a father figure grooming and manipulating him. Some of the trivia you’re seeing is from Legends continuity, like Grievous having Sifo Dyas blood Ahmed Best did come back as Jar Jar. I assume his spoken lines were cut. He didn’t dislike playing Jar Jar, he was actually pretty proud of it, he was emotionally shaken by assholes throwing a shit fit over Jar Jar to the point he nearly committed suicide
Damn. U've obviously spent a lot of time on this... which isn't an insult... I will add that proof Jedi's are allowed to love is Obewan literally saying "I loved u", to Darth Vader... (love doesn't have to b sexual or maternal.. just saying)
Also, another fun fact and which make this movie so good with the story and foreshadow play, is the fact that during the opening rescue sequence Palpatine tells Anakin that there's no time to rescue Obi-Wan and Anakin emphatically says that then his fate will be the same as theirs and these words do come true in the original trilogy since at different points all of them died in a Death Star
hey, do not forget Rogue One just after this one ! (happens just before the beginning of episode 4) just know the Clones aren't the Stormtroopers you saw in the orginal trilogy (and also that they re probably the real victims of the war). I highly recommend you to watch "The Clone Wars" series (in chronological order not release order this time) and the Bad Batch. It really adds a lot of depth to the prequels and to the whole story in general, and it's better to watch it before the Mandalorian anyway :)
They actually never tried to hide Palpatine's identity, not really. His name was never mentioned in the Original Trilogy, but it was "common knowledge" thanx to stuff outside of the film (books, comics, videogames). And the fact that he is the same actor in both trilogies was a big giveaway. Of course, one must be aware of such hidden details xD
I love how they shot it so that if someone didn't know that info going in it would be a slow reveal, though. I remember a friend in school who adamantly refused to believe Palpatine was Sidious when ep.1 came out.
It would have been cool to have a young solo in the film, but I'm glad they didn't have Chewie raising him. Chewie's and Han's relationship is more that of two buddies. If Chewie raised him their relationship should have been more father and son like, and that wouldn't fit with the buddy relationship they had in 4, 5 and 6. It would be like a character relationship inconsistency.
His action figure from the POTF line was called Emperor Palpatine. It was also the first time I herd the term “Sith”. four years later Episode 1 came out.
"aware of such hidden details" You mean alert and awake? They didn't hide Palpatine's identity at all. When some of my classmates in high school didn't believe me that Palpatine was going to be the Emperor, I nearly lost my shit at how blind they were. I mean, I understand a little hesitancy, but they were outright insistent it couldn't be Palpatine.
I saw this in the theater when it first came out, and I think the scene with Yoda flinging the guards probably produced the most audience response of combined cheers/laughter (although my mother said she blinked and missed that scene).
The imperial march actually played during episode 1, at the end credits, and a ton of times during episode 2, 2 times it was super noticeable. I love how they kept teasing us what would happen. Also, Obi-Wan more than had the moral high ground, he had the advantage because he learned what people do when they have the low ground, or at least it's predictable. He was prepared.
Obi-Wan is able to defeat Darth Maul in Episode 1 by using the Dark Side you can see how Angry he is that his Master has just been killed by Maul, his face has the complete look of rage while fighting. The same way how Luke is able to defeat Darth Vader because he was so angry that Vader was saying he would turn Leia to the Dark Side and Luke snapped finally snapping out of it when looking at both their robot hands
You should review " Star Wars Rogue One", next. It's the story of how the rebels got the plans for the 1st death star. It takes place right before episode 4 A new hope.
Rogue One should be your next Star Wars movie. It occurs between episodes 3 & 4, ending only minutes prior to the opening shot of Episode 4: A New Hope. Mostly new characters but an O.T. aesthetic.
Man... Why do you have to go and spoil it. Just say "Watch Rogue One it's a great movie" that's it. Now the ending is spoiled. So many people are blown away in the end... Just sad dude
@@thomassencindiver I hardly think that defining the time period when the movie takes place is a spoiler. No names of characters, no plot points, no specific narrative information. You need to check your definition of what a spoiler is.
@@tofersiefken "Ending only minutes prior to the opening shot of Episode 4: A New Hope" Not much can happen in a span of minutes. Maybe you're right, maybe it will go straight over someone's head, but I doubt it will go over Shanelle's head.
The Darth Plageus scene is so good, memes aside. Palpatine is getting to tell someone about how he killed his former master and the way he can barely contain the true secret.
By the time of a new hope, Storm Troopers were enlisted men, and or children that had been taken and pressed into the Imperial Army. There were a few Clones in the story line that were still part of the Imperial Military, but at this point they would all be 45ish years old and not deemed suitable as ground troops. There are some stories in the Cartoon/animated series that you might check out after you watch Rogue One which is the next movie that is in the order of what you should watch for these reviews.
It might be worth rewatching the Prequels and adding the Clone Wars as an addition. It will allow you to watch how the dominoes cascade in Palpatine's favor. The Clone Wars not only gives more chemistry to the relationship to Anakin's and Padme's relationship, but also emphasizes the brotherhood between Obi Wan and Anakin. You will also earn some surprising insight into the Clones who were bred for this war. Switching your focus into following the Prequels as Palpatine's story makes the world building and politics very interesting.
Planning on watching Rogue One soon too? I think that's the best one of the newer star wars movies. Also your channel is great! Just discovered it recently 👍🏼 keep it up
Honestly I thought Hayden's acting was really good and fit the character. Like the "I'm overwhelmed" line. He's super happy and excited about the news but can't let on WHY he's so excited or why he would be, he's a Jedi and is supposed to be humble and calm... so he acts 'humble' and 'calm' and in turn he seems 'fake' and 'off' with his speech. Anakin is acting the whole movie, 'acting' like a model Jedi. Even around the people he loves... he's still trying to be the person he wants them to see him as.
That conversation between Palpatine and Anakin during the water ballet is such a great scene. Palpatine is straight up bragging about killing his master and Anakin doesn’t see anything
Actually, what makes it great is that Palpatine could be making it all up. Or embellishing. Or he could have had no involvement with the story and it is all a ploy to get Anakin to think he can learn from Palpatine.
At birth, all clones had a chip in their brains that made them activate order 66. Clones where people, with emotions and bonds to the Jedi, who they fought side by side. The chip ensured to turn off all of that emotion and focus only in completing the order. "Good soldier follow orders"
I accept that this is how Filoni wrote it and it ended up this way in "The Clone Wars". But I really hated it. It was clearly written that way to make it more easy to "heal" a clone by simply removing the chip. But I like the explanation that Lama Su gives in Episode II better. They are simply genetically coded to be less independent thinkers and probably have this order ingrained in their subconscious mind. This way no chip is needed, and no clone could ever be "saved" from obeying Order 66.
@@Quotenwagnerianer it's not Dave filloni's idea it was George Lucas's idea for the inhibitor chips he implemented long before Disney bought star wars. Every element in the movies and show he came up with or had to sign off on, and in the case of the clones that was his doing. That was the genetic modification the kaminoans were talking about. You can't just simply code something into the human brain during a cloning process of them growing in tubes like you would code a bios on a computer, it's not a matter of binary 0101s. The inhibitor chip was a bio organic design that was created with sith alchemy dooku was the one who gave the template for it it was a type of hypnosis. For an entire army of clones to turn on its commanders at the order of the civilian chief of state with no explanation violating the chain of command and all they've fought for their careers to secure democracy against a authoritarian faction like the confederacy of their own free will is as believable as the soldiers in the UK or the US willingly following orders from a president or prime minister to eliminate the entire brass of military command just because someone told them to so the government can be transformed into a empire
@@generalgrievous696 "you can't just simply code something into the human brain during a cloning process of them growing in tubes like you would code a bios on a computer, it's not a matter of binary 0101s." The reaction at the start, when the title "Star Wars" showed up on the screen ... that was what you got at the start of every Star Wars movie after the first one - an auditorium full of "Yeah!"s and cheers and all that! You would have fit right into the crowd! When Yoda says that he must let go of what he fears to lose, because fear is a path to the Dark Side ... he's not saying 'get rid of all fear'; it is the fear of losing what you want/love that is dangerous. That is one of the primary reasons that Jedi aren't supposed to 'settle down' and have a family ... it gives Fear a solid foothold on your psyche, and you can too easily be drawn into doing something Destructive/Wrong in order to save them from a threat or danger.
The clones actually have inhibitor chips put into their heads. The order "execute order 66" was basically like a kill switch making them turn on the Jedi no matter what. Commander Cody (the clone that shot down Obi Wan) grew very close to Obi Wan during the war and would never hurt Obi Wan in his right mind. Just makes it even more tragic. A few clones figured out how to remove the chips and thus did not kill Jedi. All this is shown in the animated show Clone Wars which takes place between episodes Attack of the clones and Revenge of the Sith. Its honestly an amazing show that gets better with each season leading to the final season which could have been a movie in itself!
Just some observation: The Jedi can love, they are encouraged to love, what they can't have is attachment (the inability to conceive your life or it's meaning without the attachment), that's why Yoda tells him to train himself to let go of what he fears to lose, this is reflected on both christian and budhist ideals (the foundation used for the Jedi code), the more you desire something the more you attach yourself to it, the more you fear to lose it, the less yourself you are, and thus you lose yourself in the something, that will be ineitably lost at some point. Someone else? Your knowledge? Your beauty? Your own life? Everything will fade at some point, no need for filosophies to know that, fearing the inevitable is pointless, letting go is the best way to get rid of an attachment so life can be properly lived. That is the Jedi code.
To this day the "Duel of the Fates" between Obi-Wan and Anakin remains the longest duel in cinematic history and also one of my favorites, all be it a bit over done
When I was in third grade (I'm almost 52 now) I read that Vader had that suit because he and Kenobi had fought on the edge of a volano and Vader had fallen in. I waited YEARS to get that battle.
In the first movie the fight scene had music called "duel of fates" (if i recall) this was because the 3 were fighting for Anakin's future - Qui gon was father figure - obi wan was brother figure - maul/Sidious would have been direct to dark side (created by Sidious and his master) Padme was killed by the emperor - using the force to kill her so Anakin/Vader had no more conflict of loyalty Anakin is the one that brought balance - he killed the emperor to save Luke - his love for Padme and Luke through her brought him back to fulfill his prophecy
Hayden Christensen’s physical acting in this film is actually pretty good The scene where him and Padme stare out the window and then the Mustafa scene when he almost realises what he’s done but there’s no going back are both really great scene’s that show his physical acting And you really feel the weight behind a lot of his fight
I always say that Christensen is a great actor in these movies when he isn’t forced to talk. That sounds like an insult, but honestly, almost nobody could make these scripts sound like natural human dialogue, so you have a trilogy where a future Oscar winner sounds like a robot and the only way to come out looking good is to embrace the cheese and be immortalized as memes. Any time Christensen is able to just perform without figuring out how to get through the written word, he’s able to really sell Anakin’s journey. There’s a ton of great face acting going on with him, especially in III, that can be easy to miss.
@@folcotook3049 He's also looking up at the light while down in Hell(Mustafar is pure hell imagery). He's regretting damning himself and how far from the light he's come... but knows there still is a light(Padme) for him.
There's a significance to Obi-Wan saying "Hello there" when he drops in on Grievous and the Seperatist droids. "Hello there" was the first line Sir Alec Guiness said in A New Hope and became a bit of a running gag, particularly in the Clone Wars TV series. In fact, in one episode of the Clone Wars, Grievous says it to Obi-Wan Clone Wars is a good watch. It covers the time between episodes 2 and 3 and answers a lot of question raised in the prequel movies. It also fleshes out some prequel characters and introduces a bunch of great new ones. I highly recommend you watch the series on your own. With 7 seasons and, i believe, over 130 episodes, I think reacting to it would be a logistical nightmare
About you saying: "That's why the Jedi can't fall in love." Yes but if you think about it, it was love that turned him to the Dark Side and it was love that brought him back. The love for his son. So I think that if the Jedi learned to deal with their feelings in a healthy way, instead of just shoving them all down for fear of turning evil, perhaps they'd be much less vulnerable to the Dark Side inside of them. That's why Luke was a better version of a Jedi than any of the old ones. Because he hadn't been indoctrinated for years in pushing his feelings away, he always did what his heart told him, even if he got himself in trouble and Yoda and Obi-Wan always reprimanded him for it. But in the end, he was stronger for it. Even when he briefly turned to the Dark Side, he had a good enough hold on his feelings to push himself back out and not give in to Palpatine. That's why he succeeded where his father had failed.
It's not wrong for Jedi to love, but they are not to form attachments. The way I look at it, falling in love is considered forming an attachment to one person. Jedi are to love all people. But there's is not a romantic love, which I believe the Jedi are to avoid.
15:31 That's kind of the point. The Council has been going on and on about the Code, and now they break it themselves. They are proving themselves hypocrites.
Important distinction to make, Stormtroopers aren't the same as Clone troopers. Clones were phased out shortly into the empire's reign and replaced with human recruits which is why they don't all sound like Jango Fett in the original trilogy
I grew up with the OT vhs movies, but I love the Prequels most of all, especially this one, both Trilogies are amazing, but this one just did it for me. Yes, I would love to see a 4 hour cut. Also the clone troopers are soon after replaced by normal humans, because the clones are expensive, but also because they had started becoming more independent and likely to disobey orders they don't agree with, becoming more human than the humans that were replacing them. Also also Inhibitor chips.
Hi, Shanelle! I just finished watching all of your reactions to the Star Wars Skywalker Saga Prequel Trilogy and I cannot begin to describe how much joy you have brought me! My mother grew up with the original trilogy and I grew up with the prequels. 'Attack of the Clones' was the first movie that I saw. I was three years old when I watched it for the first time and it is still not only my favorite 'Star Wars' movie to this day, but it is also my all-time favorite movie in general. I understand that the romance between Padme and Anakin is not for everyone, but I loved it when I was a kid and it still makes a lot of sense to me now. To each their own though! Also, I laughed when you were speculating about things, especially when your predictions were so on-point and you had no idea! "Is Padme Luke and Leia's mom?" "Oh my God, is Amidala gonna die?" The one about Palpatine had me rolling, too: "Is Palpatine Anakin's father?" PLEASE! I WAS WHEEZING! Also, I can't believe that it took you well into 'Attack of the Clones' to figure out that Sidious was Palpatine. I love it so much! Hayden Christensen is a brilliant actor! He was great in the second movie in my opinion, but this movie just solidified that for me. (He was also my first crush. The dude is a big part of my childhood!) Also, if you want some more fun facts about the prequels, Hayden was actually nineteen years old when he played Anakin in the second movie, making him the youngest of the cast. He definitely bulked up for his role in 'Revenge of the Sith' and he was also wearing a wig. (I was obsessed with his long hair when I was a little girl and my entire world was turned upside down years later when I discovered that it was a wig the whole time). Your reaction to the third movie was so emotional for me to watch. It's so beautiful watching someone who has never seen the prequels react to them for the first time. It brings me back. Thanks for the nostalgia, Shan!
This was so fun to watch! I'm going to again recommend that if you're looking for more prequel era star wars content to answer some more questions to watch the clone wars animated movie and show. The first couple seasons notoriously bad but if you can get past that stage the show becomes the center of star wars lore and a fan favorite. It takes place in between episodes 2 and 3 during the midst of the war and explains things like force Ghosts, Grievous' very interesting past, everything to do with the clones, and basically anything else you can imagine. (Also if you plan on watching the mandalorian I would watch the clone wars first it really sets up characters and concepts that are in the show)
OMG... You had me on the FLOOR with the "super suit" reference! I went through the whole thing in my head... "Why do you need it?" "You tell me where my suit is woman!" Just picturing Mace go through this conversation, I was dying!
The clones had chips in their heads that took away their free will, like sleeper agents. They were aware of their actions but couldn't fight them, when order 66 was given the chips activated and every single Jedi was seen as an enemy, every clone who disobeyed or managed to fight back was also a target for elemination. In the clone wars series, one of the clones actually discovers the chips and the plot to destroy the Jedi, but is killed literally as he is explaining it to anakin. The only other person in the galaxy who knew about the plot was maul, but he had very few specifics. All he knew was that the war was part of the grand plan and that soon the Jedi would be destroyed. He actually offered to help Ashoka (anakins padwan) take down palpatine, if only to satisfy his lust for revenge having been cast aside by him. He tried to warn them but nobody listened until it was too late.
This movie wraps up almost every detail for "A new hope", except that when Luke takes R2 to Obi-Wan, he looks confused and claims he had never seen that droid before.
@@natestadler2352 I feel like the retcon explanation is that Ben did that on purpose so that the mystery of the droids and Leia would seem like a joint experience in Luke's eyes and he'd have no reason to suspect Kenobi of any ulterior motives. That bugged me for a while too but then I realized that droids are everywhere in this universe and Anakin built him from a prexisting design so he'd have no reason to think that he once knew this droid plus if I'm not mistaken he never heard C-3P0's name in their short time together in ANH.
So as good as this movie seems, I highly recommend at least going through some of the highlight arcs of the Star Wars The Clone Wars series. You'll get to see more of basically everybody in this movie and it actually builds up Anakin's switch to the dark side. It also makes the turn of the Clones actually sting. They mean pretty much nothing if you only watch the movies, but with the context of the show you know that they are all actually individuals with their own thoughts and ideas.
The crowd was thrilled with the Palpatine v Yoda fight, espeically after watching Palpatine take out 3 Jedi Masters so easily in the earlier scene when they went to arrest Palpatine. Since you commented on the 'no' that Vader cries out at the end, the ones that Vader says in Jedi, one before he lifts Palpatine and the other as he's carrying to the pit, those were added after the release of 'Revenge of the Sith'. Lucas made additional edits to the original trilogy after 'Revenge of the Sith' was released. The other was replacing the voice of Jason Wingreen to that of Temeura Morrison for Boba Fett in Empire Strikes Back. That was the first clue that the stormtroopers are not the clones because their voices weren't changed. There's also a canon explanation in the animated series "The Bad Batch" of why the stormtroopers are not clones.
when the helmet and mask are being put on you can hear Anakin whisper Help me Padmé as the mask seals shut but it is very quiet the look on his face is one of him being completely afraid
Anakin always cared about the Jedi way, it's the Jedi that didnt. He was manipulated and gaslighted into being evil. Also the Clones had chips in their heads that forced them to turn on the Jedi when Order 66 was issued. They didn't become stormtroopers tho
Anakin IS "the real chosen one". He does indeed bring balance. It's just that the Jedi didn't bother to think that maybe they were the ones causing imbalance. By the end of Episode 6, the Force is indeed in much more balance than at any other point in the movies. It's the grave mistake of thinking that "balance" equals "only good things". After Anakin dies, and it's only essentially Luke left - a person much less indoctrinated into the extremes of the Jedi Order - essentially restarting teaching the Force. The Force is neither in balance when it's only the Jedi ruling everything. It's also not in balance when it's only the Sith ruling everything. Anakin is essentially the Reset button.
@@dernwine Just because the Jedi practice the light side doesn't exclude them from perverting their own practice of the light side. Especially when the Jedi Order was being manipulated by the Sith for years.
Also, he literally brought balance. There are only ever 2 Sith, a master and an apprentice, at the end there were 2 Jedi left, Obi Wan and Yoda! Balance!
Chewbacca was about 200 years old in "A New Hope". Since "Revenge of the Sith" takes place 19 years before then he would've been alive. On average Wookies had a lifespan of 400 years so Chewie would've probably been biologically equivalent to a 35-40 year old man who takes part in rigorous physical exercise.
Fun fact: Audiences were delighted to barely see Jar Jar and not hear his voice in Episode III because they hated him and George finally got the message.
Yeah, that is some grade-A BS This Jar Jar hate is so over-hyped, and anyone with a soul who obnoxiously criticized Jar Jar recanted everything they said once they saw Ahmed Best's video
Sorry but George Lucas took a huge dump on fans by letting Jar Jar have the last word in Return of the Jedi. Listen closely to the celebration compilation at the end and yo will hear his voice.
I don't think so and just more evidence of Geirge Lucas hatred of long term fans. Vader shouting No ruined the end of the film for me and others who have seen the original version of the film. Also unless you check it out onnline most prequel trilogy and the Disney trilogy fans will have never seen the original finale of Return of the Jedi and the Ewok music.
Ian in his performance as Palpatine is really the highlight for me. He's so "devil" seductive, incredible line delivery. The Anakin/Obi-Wan sword fight is the longest swordfight on film still to this day. Anakin's scar is supposed to show how three years (that's the time gap) of war took it's toll. They actually had an interesting viral 3 year promo going on. from the end of Attack to the beginning of this movie, there was an official website called the Holonet News that "covered" the Clone Wars news, as if you were back home reading the newspaper, ala WW2. Cut stuff fleshes out the Anakin motivation. Anakin learns there is deep knowledge in holocrons (like diaries) that could help him learn how to save Padme. However, to get access to those ancient and dark holocrons , you have to be a Master. That's why Anakin wants to be a Master and is mad they won't let him be one. He's not power hungry. Sadly, Lucas had to cut all that.
Speaking of; “Prequels with Palpatine!” Read the book “Darth Plagueis”. It’s great and is all about Palpatine’s master he tells Anakin about. It even features a young Palpatine!
When Windu says "I sense confusion in you" to Anakin and you said "stop telling him that! You're making it worse!" I choked on my coke from laughing so hard 😆🤣
Fun fact. Ian McDiarmid played the emperor in “ Return of the Jedi” meaning he returned nearly 20 years later to play a younger version of the same character

Yeah, his choice made all the innocents he slaughtered without compunction go away.
And that cheesy Nooo from Vader/Anakin actually is more true to character than the original quiet one.

@@Caseytify oh, STFU. Did you think a villain like Vader never killed innocents?
Well put
@@niclaswa5408 Yep! I freaked out when I discovered that detail. That shows how smart and genius George Lucas is.
He's still an idiot. The Jedi had something like 15 years to instill some sort of moral code in him, and he dumps them without a thought.
lol sad. ok
Fucking hell man!. Great insight👍🍻
Kenobi's "Hello there" in this film is so cool because it's also the first words he says in A New Hope
The Bad Batch will answer all your questions about Clones and Storm Troopers.
@@dirtyhawkstv1575 clone wars comes first. Makes bad batch more rewarding
The chip is just for people who can't handle the fact that clones were already cold blooded genetic designs instead of that kid friendly version from that pointless TCW show
1) i hate the chips, dave filoni protecting his characters from guilt. the idea that they are just loyal due to regular indoctrination is a much better parallel to the rise of real authoritarianism and real falls of democracies.'but they wouldn't betray their friend they fought alongside for 3 years!'

plenty of people were willing to betray their civil war buddies and their blood relatives in peacetime soviet union in the name of their ideological loyalties.
plenty of people were willing to betray their ww1 buddies and their blood relatives in the rise of the nazis in the name of their ideological loyalties.
plenty of people betrayed and still betray their family in 'communist' china.
Lol

So good.

The clone wars is amazing.. far better than the sequels... it's probably one of the best animated series of all time
It really is one of those things where if you really want to understand Anakin, it's a must watch.
For Order 66 they have inhibitor chips in their brains that make them comply with certain orders. Order 66 brands the Jedi traitors and subject to execution on the spot. The clones regretted it afterwards considering they couldn’t control themselves but they could still remember doing it.

I'm sure everyone will tell you that Rogue One is a must watch for the next Star Wars. It is really a great film to watch next for the timeline.

This is the prologue:
ANOTHER galaxy, another time.
In those first dark days it seemed certain the bright flame of resistance would be extinguished before it could cast the light of new truth across a galaxy of oppressed and beaten peoples…

Yes, I have often joked that George Lucas had to name his creation "Star Wars" because his first choice was already taken: "A Farewell To Arms".
good one!
you know, my girlfriend made that same hand slicing comment and came to the conclusion that there is almost no choice, when you fight a force user.
if you just take away his lightsaber, or even put him in cuffs (with Grievous on the bridge)....they'll force pull the sword to themselves, cut the cuffs and now you have problem.
Every time Vader disarmed Luke in Empire, Luke just force pulled his saber and got back to work.
so how DO you defeat a lightsabre wielding Jedi?
1.)take his hand (s)
2.)suspend him, like Dooku did Obi on Geonosis
2.)freeze him in carbonite
I always liked that after their wedding in Episode II, R2 is now with Anakin and 3P0 is now with Padmé when they were originally owned by each other. Seems the droids basically were their wedding gifts to each other and that's why 3P0 got the gold finish since he now serves as Padmé's butler while R2 is Anakin's assistant during his military service, since each is much better suited to serve their original owner's spouse.
I saw this 6 times in the cinema when it came out. that scene where Yoda just knocks down those two guards with the force always got a laugh.

Clone Wars, the series, makes Anaken’s turn hurt that much more. He was legendary. He stood in front of his brothers in battle and treated them all as indispensable. He never asked them to do anything that he, himself, wouldn’t do. Brutal fall from grace…

The absolute best line of the Prequel trilogy goes to Natalie Portman: "So this is how liberty dies...with thunderous applause."
Wookiees live for hundreds of years!

George Lucas was asked how Anakin got his scar inbetween Episodes II and III, and George answered "He fell in the shower."
I'm sure many different comics or Clone Wars episodes attempted to explain it since, but this is the true canon in my mind.
My favourite bit of trivia about this movie is that there's a throwaway line by anakin (you're shorter than I expected) when he sees grievous for the first time. When they then did the animated clone wars series they kept having to have roundabout stupid reasons why the main antagonist and main protagonist kept just not meeting each other 😂
Rouge One should be the next movie you react to. It's the next movie in chronological order before episode 4.
Also fun fact: the final scene with Kenobi, Owen, and Beru was filmed separately with each actor and the cuts overlapped.
Yes it was filmed during Episode 2 as cost cutting measure so they didnt go to Tunisia for Episode 3
The scene when Obi Wan gives Luke to Beru was filmed in 2001
And the scene with Beru and Owen overlooking Tatooine was shot on Bluescreen stage in 2004
Yes, the weapon they were talking about was the death star. They had a hologram of it.
Grievous is a cyborg. Part robot part alien (kaleesh specifically). He coughs because his lungs are irritated by his implants. In pre disney purchase Legends material, it’s because Mace Windu crushed his chest with the Force.

I mean if you check who plays the Emperor and Palpatine it’s not exactly a secret 😂
Anakin got the scar during the war
“Has no jedi ever had fear???” You’re seeing the prequel jedi’s flaws
No, Palpatine is not Anakin’s father. Neither genetically or through the force. And no a comic did not confirm he is, a Lucasfilm storygroup member explicitly said that was not the intention. George doesn’t want Anakin’s true origin revealed, even decided not to include a Palpatine line of him saying he was his father in a way. Though in Legends (which George was largely uninvolved with) the Force created Anakin in response to Plagueis messing around with midichlorians
“You are on this council, but we do not grant you the rank of master.”
“What?”
“SAY WHAT AGAIN!”
Anakin is the real chosen one. He turned back to the light and killed the Emperor, destroying the sith
Anakin in the last movie: I will even learn to stop people from dying!
Palpatine in this movie: He could even keep the ones he cared about...from dying.
Anakin: SAY MORE RIGHT NOW!
Yup. It’s never explicitly said, but Sidious was indeed Plagueis’s apprentice.
The term for the species is varactyl but it is a lizard like creature
Jedi can love, they just shouldn’t loves selfishly, which Anakin does
Mace Windu about Sidious “He’s too dangerous to be left alive!” Palpatine about Dooku at the start of the movie “He was too dangerous to be kept alive.” Imagine how that messed with Anakin’s head.
Sam Jackson has said that he’s open to returning as Mace
What? He’s had the black clothes. Like the whole time.
Clones served the empire for a short time and then were phased out for regular human reruits and conscripts. Those are stormtroopers
Some of your questions are answered by the Clone Wars show. The longer one.
Jango and Boba wear Mandalorian armor. Armor made and worn by mandalorian people. So no, The Mandalorian isn’t about Palpatine
I’m sorry. He puts on the hood, shoots lightning, becomes Vader’s master, has that ugly ass face, and you still don’t connect that he’s the emperor?
He cut off his legs _and_ his remaining arm
A long lived fan theory is that Padme died because Palpatine used the Force to siphon her life energy into Vader. There’s been nothing confirming it. Also, dying of a broken heart is a real thing. It happened to Carrie Fisher’s mom shortly after Carrie passed.
Yes, Anakin needs to stay in the suit. It keeps him alive.
Yup, Obi learns from Qui Gon how to become a force ghost
Only 3PO got his mind wiped
Technically Anakin’s fall started once he was inducted into the jedi order. A flawed order he often disagrees with, a teacher who wasn’t ready to be one, and a father figure grooming and manipulating him.
Some of the trivia you’re seeing is from Legends continuity, like Grievous having Sifo Dyas blood

I'm old. I've seen every single Star Wars film, in the theaters, during their original releases, since I was 5 years old. It's still my favorite.
(happens just before the beginning of episode 4)
just know the Clones aren't the Stormtroopers you saw in the orginal trilogy (and also that they re probably the real victims of the war).
"aware of such hidden details"
You mean alert and awake? They didn't hide Palpatine's identity at all. When some of my classmates in high school didn't believe me that Palpatine was going to be the Emperor, I nearly lost my shit at how blind they were. I mean, I understand a little hesitancy, but they were outright insistent it couldn't be Palpatine.
@@danieltate6092 It was already known long ago how Han and Chewie met. I remember reading about that a long time before these prequels came out.
Hayden was actually in the Vader costume for those final scenes. He's also expected to return for the "Kenobi" Disney+ series.
No, he lost using the dark side - losing control got him in the hole. By collecting himself and finding his center, he was able to defeat Maul.

Anakin is still chosen one, he brings balance to force when he kills the emperor in Return of Jedi
Palpatine is straight up bragging about killing his master and Anakin doesn’t see anything
zzzz
Its the best scene in the entire prequels.
Actually, what makes it great is that Palpatine could be making it all up. Or embellishing. Or he could have had no involvement with the story and it is all a ploy to get Anakin to think he can learn from Palpatine.
@@CleverClothe the story he told is true, there's a prequel book about him and his master where it happens.
"Fives. Find Fives!"
It was actually George Lucas idea with the chip in the head not filoni

Aw yeah, time for Revenge of the Sith! This is where the fun begins 😆
The reaction at the start, when the title "Star Wars" showed up on the screen ... that was what you got at the start of every Star Wars movie after the first one - an auditorium full of "Yeah!"s and cheers and all that!
The Revenge of the Sith book expands on the thoughts and motivations of the characters and made me appreciate the movie even more.
In the first movie the fight scene had music called "duel of fates" (if i recall)
this was because the 3 were fighting for Anakin's future - Qui gon was father figure - obi wan was brother figure - maul/Sidious would have been direct to dark side (created by Sidious and his master)
Padme was killed by the emperor - using the force to kill her so Anakin/Vader had no more conflict of loyalty
Anakin is the one that brought balance - he killed the emperor to save Luke - his love for Padme and Luke through her brought him back to fulfill his prophecy
Your reaction to the ending is fitting. “I feel hopeless” once everything has gone to hell, leading into the next episode, A New Hope.
Definitely the best prequel.

And you really feel the weight behind a lot of his fight
I love the Mustafar shot because we see both his evil (the eyes) and his regret (the tears).

There's a significance to Obi-Wan saying "Hello there" when he drops in on Grievous and the Seperatist droids. "Hello there" was the first line Sir Alec Guiness said in A New Hope and became a bit of a running gag, particularly in the Clone Wars TV series. In fact, in one episode of the Clone Wars, Grievous says it to Obi-Wan
Clone Wars is a good watch. It covers the time between episodes 2 and 3 and answers a lot of question raised in the prequel movies. It also fleshes out some prequel characters and introduces a bunch of great new ones. I highly recommend you watch the series on your own. With 7 seasons and, i believe, over 130 episodes, I think reacting to it would be a logistical nightmare
at 31:35 don't know if you have noticed he is crying realising all he is doing isn't what he wants to do but does it for power.
Star Wars Revenge of the Sith holds the record for the longest sword fight in cinematic history.
"Is Padme Luke and Leia's mom?"
"Oh my God, is Amidala gonna die?"
The one about Palpatine had me rolling, too:
"Is Palpatine Anakin's father?"
PLEASE!
The dude is a big part of my childhood!)
Also, if you want some more fun facts about the prequels, Hayden was actually nineteen years old when he played Anakin in the second movie, making him the youngest of the cast.
"Why do you need it?"
"You tell me where my suit is woman!"
Just picturing Mace go through this conversation, I was dying!
And the fact that Owen doesn't recognize R2-D2 and C-3PO, threepio in particular because Lars had him for years between episodes 1 and 2
@@natestadler2352 I feel like the retcon explanation is that Ben did that on purpose so that the mystery of the droids and Leia would seem like a joint experience in Luke's eyes and he'd have no reason to suspect Kenobi of any ulterior motives. That bugged me for a while too but then I realized that droids are everywhere in this universe and Anakin built him from a prexisting design so he'd have no reason to think that he once knew this droid plus if I'm not mistaken he never heard C-3P0's name in their short time together in ANH.
I thought he said he didn't remember OWNING a droid?
So as good as this movie seems, I highly recommend at least going through some of the highlight arcs of the Star Wars The Clone Wars series. You'll get to see more of basically everybody in this movie and it actually builds up Anakin's switch to the dark side. It also makes the turn of the Clones actually sting. They mean pretty much nothing if you only watch the movies, but with the context of the show you know that they are all actually individuals with their own thoughts and ideas.
37:59 Shanelle's expression when Padme asks "is Anakin all right" is priceless.
George Lucas himself said this interpretation is wrong. He intended the dark side to be an imbalance, a perversion of the naturally light force.
Balance!
@@Felnal Again, all well and good, except that George Lucas explicietly said that this isn't how it works.
"My nights ruined"
*proceeds to evil laugh*
40:59 Fun fact, R2 isn't mind-wiped, and is never mind wiped. He's the only Star Wars character who sees and remembers how everything played out.
The Clones do what they are told "without question" as was said by their creator. They do whatever they are told by whomever had control of them.
Fun fact: Audiences were delighted to barely see Jar Jar and not hear his voice in Episode III because they hated him and George finally got the message.
Yeah, that is some grade-A BS
This Jar Jar hate is so over-hyped, and anyone with a soul who obnoxiously criticized Jar Jar recanted everything they said once they saw Ahmed Best's video
Sorry but George Lucas took a huge dump on fans by letting Jar Jar have the last word in Return of the Jedi.
Listen closely to the celebration compilation at the end and yo will hear his voice.
@@seanbrown453 It's a different Gungan I believe, voiced by Matt Wood who has a voice cameo in every star wars movie
Neat! That changes my perspective of him a lot, and is nice to know.
That opening scene! "Wow!" Yeah... most of us said the same thing when we saw the start of this movie for the first time in the theatre.
Obi wan is such a hansome man dude
Speaking of; “Prequels with Palpatine!” Read the book “Darth Plagueis”. It’s great and is all about Palpatine’s master he tells Anakin about. It even features a young Palpatine!
Yes but he didn't kill darth Plagueis in his sleep
When Windu says "I sense confusion in you" to Anakin and you said "stop telling him that! You're making it worse!" I choked on my coke from laughing so hard 😆🤣
Time for 'Rogue One'! 😁😉
You’re adorable watching these movies. I wish I could go back and watch them all for the first time again.
Saw this in theaters, the air was sucked out of the room when Vader took his first breath. Absolute silence.
Keep it going. Rogue One, 7,8,9
