Dang a best of three would have been great here prince is looking real good!! I know the skill gap between top 10 and top 50 is huge but you gotta remember, those top 50 are competitors waiting to move up! Nice to see it too!
I don't think a best-of-three was warranted for this match based on Prince's willingness to even attempt cannon rushing in the first place. Cannon Rush usually means lack of confidence in the ability to win by conventional means (usually the result of a big one-sided loss from a previous game) and trying to use cheese to compensate, except deflecting cannon rushes is practically a requirement at the pro level so trying it at all against a pro is a losing desperation move. It's an even bigger desperation move to attempt one against the race with flying buildings, siege tanks, and cyclones.

I actually really liked Prince's cannon rush. He didn't go all in, and continued to build up his economy with the time bought for him by his cannon rush.
It wasn't the destination, but the journey that mattered with this one. Very fun set of games! And well played Prince!
Random question: I just noticed today that when the Protoss die, they seem to vanish in somekind of blue warp effect. Is it because Protoss recall the losses from their battlefield to recycle/burry/repair them?
Yep
Iirc it's some kind of emergency teleporter that teleports grievously wounded Protoss back to the home world.

Yea seriously... First I've heard of a best of 2 in any sport or game ever. We need odd numbers or it's going to be a 1-1 tie. Unless this is like group play and they just count the wins in a table and the highest advance? No clue.

How does a best of 2 work? Is this a draw? Does it go to the judges to give them a score?

Lowko explained it very poorly. It's not a best of two (mainly because best of twos don't exist). The games were played in a teamleague where each player pairing plays twice and the W-L of all player pairings determines the winner in the team-matchup.

Has anyone ever played an old starcraft mode that Terran and Protoss units are mechas? This isn't the gundam UC mod because we didn't have internet back then and installed my starcraft from a cd. I had the original starcraft as well as the one with the gundam/mecha mode when i was a kid. I just can't recall what it was called

I think best of 2 is the wrong term for it. It's just 2 games played, doesn't mean one advances and one loses since after reading the comments it was in group play and the total wins would be tallied after. Best of 2 implies someone loses and someone advances but that's not the case with a 1-1 tie.
what is the counter balance to the protoss build mechanic?
Terrans resiliency and mobility.

Can anyone explain to us dummies why best of 2s are a thing, why is it so hard to just bump it to bo3 and get a winner?
idk why its a thing either but if all tornaments and so on are doing the same thing and you want to get peoples interest trying something different like "best of 2s" might of worked out for them
In a bo2 a winner can be declared, if one wins both games, but it can also be an even result. In a Bo3 you will force a winner, even if it wasn't "deserved". If you think about matches as scores in something like football or hockey I think it makes sense. During the league stage in those sports matches doesn't have to have a winner, both teams can be equally as good or use different strategies and finish a game with the same scores, which can still be interesting to watch (or play). And when a tournament comes and you need to create a winner for every game there is a Bo1 or Bo7 or whatever.
I think the “best of” is inaccurate / a misnomer, they’re just playing two games that I assume contributes to an overall map score.
Imagine a 1v1v1 where the top 3 in the world fights
Quite honestly, one can see that prince is a whole 1-2 leagues below byun and mostly won the game off of byun losing all splash and not rebuilding it. But still, if you can take games off of good players, why not do it.
